Starting with charcuterie and bread @qualitychop. #eatingmarathon let's gooooooooooo!!!!!!
Scallops & Chorizo @ Licky Chops pop up at Climpson's Arch. The table beside ours had seconds (or thirds?) of this sooo...
Definitely one of my favourite places in London! Japanese udon (and more) made with seasonal British produce. Fab!
Wow... Oh wow.. Speechless. Norwegian langoustines (they taste somewhat like a cross between a lobster and an English langoustine) are pan fried in pine butter, then brushed with a subtle pickling liquor. They are served in a bowl of pine. Servers pour pine essence onto the dry ice beneath and the scent of a forest takes over your senses. In that moment, you forget you are in a formal, Michelin-starred environment; and you quickly tuck in with your fingers!
And the bad main was saved by a cracker of a dessert! Textures of butternut squash (I won't spoil the surprise- it's part of the enjoyment!) and popcorn. Powwow!
I love the corner room, but this was not one of the more successful dishes. Mystery fish (yes it was on the menu, but I can't remember) was buried under mounds of pickled daikon, which hugely overpowered the delicate fish. Blobs of sago were plopped on the plate for no discernible reason. Just weird. Thankfully, this "weird inedibleness" is not typical of the corner room.
Genuinely one of my favourite restaurants in London. One of the best value too! Definitely order this squid starter if it's on the menu!
Objectively, the food at frantzen/lindeberg was really good. My favourite dish by far was the "salad"; made up of over 70(?) different vegetables. Well worth a visit. But if you're all the way in Scandinavia and only have money for one restaurant, I'd recommend hopping over to Oslo for 2-star Maaemo instead.
"Bakfickan", literally translated as the Hip Pocket, is the back alley little sister of the larger, grander, Operabaren in #stockholm. Simple Swedish fare is served, mostly done very well. Atmosphere is a little stale, service is brusque; but the good food and low prices make up for it :)
Probably the most visually appealing dish, but taste wise it disappointed. Definitely needed salt.
