Although I am a true blue Ipohite, I actually prefer my chee cheong fun with hae ko or in this case with tim cheong (sweet sauce) and chilli topped with sesame oil, sesame seeds and fried shallots.

The most important thing is the quality of the chee cheong fun. It must be super thin and silky smooth. It is due to the high alkaline content in the water which flows from the limestone hills which surrounds Ipoh. It is the same reason why Ipoh hor fun is so silky smooth and Ipoh bean sprouts are so crunchy. This has not been replicated anywhere outside of Ipoh.

I actually prefer this version to the very popular Xin Quan Fang near the main police station. While I like the strong curry flavour at Xin Quan Fang, it is sometimes a little too overpowering.

If you go to Ipoh, you must try the curry noodles. It comes with a full on curry flavour and very little santan (coconut milk), if at all. One of my must eats in Ipoh.

I love the buttery taste and creamy texture of the coffee.

The most well known coffee is the one from Sin Yoon Loong in old town. However my last visit in December was disappointing. The coffee was too sweet and a little diluted. Not what I remembered it to be. In fact, the one at this coffee shop tasted sooo much better.

The other important thing, in my books at least, is that breakfast must be good too. The curry mee here is awesome! More in my next post...
