Unatoto from Japan offers good value for money. But umaki - unagi tamagoyaki is not to my taste.

Grilled unagi speciality restaurants are far from a new concept in Singapore, but none of them would be classified as anything approaching ā€˜affordableā€™. However, @unatoto_sg is here to right that wrong, offering a whole tail fillet of grilled eel over rice for thirteen dollars before GST & service charge.ā €
ā €
Eating unagi is a bit like Russian Roulette, you never know if youā€™re gonna get a fillet full of pin-bones or one with relatively few pin-bones, so proceed with caution. The eel is expertly grilled and retains its moist, soft texture, while the teriyaki glaze amply brushed on the unagi is more than sufficient to flavour it with savoury & salty notes, intermingled with a seductive smokiness from the charcoal grill.ā €
ā €
If you really wanna make a meal out of it, you can turn it into a meal with unagi liver soup & a side dish for an extra $5.50++. I was a bit apprehensive about the unagi liver soup, but it surprised me with its light yet satisfyingly savoury qualities. Itā€™s a light, yet tasty broth, and itā€™s probably an excellent hangover remedy.ā €

Here at @unatoto_sg, you donā€™t need to strike the lottery just to afford a fulfilling meal thatā€™s sufficiently sumptuous. Now thatā€™s a winning ticket if you ask me.

The Kabayaki & Tempura Don ($16) comes with a delicious piece of chargrilled unagi and mushroom and egg tempura. The unagi is brushed in a sweet and savoury glaze and is infused with smokiness. The meat is soft and moist, and it is not fishy. The tempura is crispy and not oily, I love the shimeiji mushroom, and the runny yolk ties everything together. OishišŸ¤¤!

We enjoyed the Umaki ($5) which was flavourful creamy eggs encasing unagi. Assorted tempura ($11) was crispy but did wish for more flavoured batter.

Affordable, quick, and delicious unagi bowls. Fresh eel is grilled over charcoal charcoal to a tender finish and caramelized exterior. Enjoyed the sweet-savory (not too sweet) marination thatā€™s enhanced by wasabi or chili flakes. Choose from the main meaty section of the fish (unadon) or more tender tail (unajyu). They also offer hitsumabushi comprising smaller, more tender chunks mixed with seaweed and coriander. Enjoyed the light dashi soup with yuzu undertones.

Unatoto has opened a new outlet at Velocity@Novena Square! Feast on thick & plump slices of unagi laid atop Jap rice šŸš with their Unajyu Large ($21++) - super shiok! šŸ’Æ Their Unadon Double ($15.50++) was equally satisfying!
.
Added $5++ for Value Set A (Soup šŸ„£ + Side dish) & we had their red miso soup, okra & kimchi.
.
For appetisers, I had their Umaki ($8++) šŸ’› & Ebi Tempura ($13++), the former being a moist rolled omelette šŸ³ with unagi while the latter featured springy prawns šŸ¤ fried to the perfect crisp. I liked that the tempura didn't feel oily! Quench your thirst with their Hot Green Tea šŸµ.
