Back here at Swensen's Unlimited to try what I missed last time and check if certain dishes have improved.
Swensen's Unlimited is no stranger to serving up buffet items from Western, Nyonya, Indian, Local, seafood, desserts, and their famous ice cream and gelato with 48 rotating flavours.
Overall, food quality remains average. Some items improved, some declined, and others stayed the same. A few new dishes were genuinely delicious.
The chilled prawn werenβt as fresh as the last time I had them, and the roasted delights still cmi. Their pizza was still great with its cheesy content. Smoked duck carbonara was awesome, flavourful and creamy. Satay was really good: nicely charred, juicy, and tender. Better to eye or camp there as itβs gone quite fast. Local items like the mee goreng were actually good tho.
Time management is key: spend the first 45 minutes on mains, and the last 45 on desserts. With 48 rotating flavours, I got to try more than I did previously.
Queue systems at each station are still confusing. Customers often donβt know where to order or collect food, leading to crowding and blocked walkways.
Dining time is strictly 90 minutes. Lunch is more value-for-money.

Waiting for the hype to die down a bit, we finally tried out Swensen's Unlimited, which I've been eyeing since their opening. They served an international buffet with their iconic food and well-known ice cream, but I guess the hype didn't really die down much, as the crowd level was still high. Luckily, we made a reservation beforehand for a slightly smoother transition, although there was still a short waiting time to be seated.
The buffet offered an array of items ranging from Nyonya, Indian, Western, seafood, and 48 rotating flavours of ice cream and gelato. Food-wise, I would say it's quite average; not much really excited me, but there were still some items that I found delicious.
Here are some items that I liked: the prawns from the seafood section were chill, fresh, and succulent; the pizza with a great gooey amount of cheese was delightful; the Kueh Pie Tee, where you could top up the ingredients yourself, had a good outer crust; and the Ondeh-ondeh was chewy, juicy, and would squirt when you bit into it.
Of course, I was here more for their desserts than mains. I tried a total of 9 scoops, which is more than an earthquake, and was semi-satisfied with it. It's not that it wasn't nice; the ice cream and gelato were totally awesome. It's just that I didn't have enough time to try more flavours. There was a short queue to get the ice cream, and you could only get 3 scoops per round, so you had to strategise about it. After getting the scoops, head over to the free-flow topping section and top whatever you like for the ultimate sundae experience.
One thing I observed at the live station is that most of the customers were clueless about where to queue for each station for roasted delights, pasta/baked rice, and laksa/mee siam. I think they can improve by pasting some ground stickers or signs like "order here" and "collection here" so we know which queue to follow, or else people will be overcrowding that area and unsure who have ordered and who have not.
Buffet dining time is strictly 90 minutes. Highly recommend going for lunch as it's more worth it.

ππππ: ππ¨π«ππ‘ ππ?
Full disclosure - this was a treat from a colleague. However, I do think that weekday prices are reasonable (weekend prices are another thing altogether). Pick & choose your food wisely & don't expect hotel-standard type of food. Bonus points for being family-friendly, if you're a parent looking to take your kids/family out for a meal.
It is probably very out of the way for most people, being located in Changi Airport Terminal 2 (head down the escalator right beside Kenangan Coffee to Level 1). Was not an issue for me though, but just putting that out there.

I paired my ice cream & gelato with some pastries from the adjacent counter. Didn't put a waffle on my plate; got a Croffle & Smashed Croissant instead.
I don't get the trend/hype about the latter - so tough & hard, & isn't the beauty of a croissant the fluffy airyness? Hard pass for me.
The croffles were superb - I would go back for more. β€οΈ

The other desserts are pretty basic & can be skipped. The Chocolate Brownie & Ondeh Ondeh were way too hard & disappointing; the rest were ordinary.

Despite not being a dessert person, the most amazing part of this buffet is the ice cream & gelato section. They have 1 whole counter each. Impressive selection of flavours - 48 flavours of gelato & ice cream combined (that's 24 each)!
I got the Smoked Oak Tiramisu gelato & Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup ice cream.. They were creamy & decadent - I enjoyed them.
Other interesting flavours I would love to try next time: Genmaicha, Gianduja, Biscoff Cheesecake, Pistachio, Cheese Cookie gelatos; Mao Shan Wang with Sea Salt Gula Melaka, Maple Walnut, Affogato Honeycomb, Salted Butterscotch ice cream.

There is a DIY kueh pie tee station - which experienced a bit of a human traffic jam, since it takes time to DIY. Quite delicious though, & on hindsight I should've taken more. I skipped the Indian cuisine selection of a few dishes; Nasi Lemak rice & Chap Chye were my choice selections.
