So, my friend jio-ed me for a buffet again, and of course, I steady lah. Even though deep down I was feeling lazy to go out, but for food, I will always make the effort. XD

We started off with Braised Shark’s Fin with Fish Maw, which was limited to one serving per person. The soup was quite starchy and flavourful, with crunchy shark fin, giving off those classic wedding banquet vibes. Then, I went straight for a plate of Salmon Sashimi like no tomorrow. To my surprise, the quality was solid—chilled, tender, and really fresh. After that, we moved on to more standard items like crispy fish skin with salted egg yolk, smoked duck, prawn paste chicken, and herbal prawns. Pretty average, but satisfying lah.

Next, we tried the dim sum selection: classics like har gao, siew mai, char siew buns, and others. Honestly, the dim sum was just okay. I’d recommend skipping it because it didn’t feel worth the stomach space—kind of subpar.

The highlight for me was the Braised Pork Trotter with Vinegar, which was actually the reason we chose this particular TungLok Seafood branch. The pork knuckles were big and fatty, braised in a sweet, savoury, tangy vinegar sauce with a nice hint of ginger. The knuckle was good, but could’ve been softer and gooier. The vinegary sauce was awesome, although I would’ve preferred it thicker and more sinful. Still, always a fan of a good vinegar pork trotter.

After a long wait, we got the Steamed Red Tilapia with Minced Garlic. This dish was worth it! The fish was fresh, tender, and soft, yet firm enough to pick up with chopsticks. The clear soy sauce added a savoury kick, and the minced garlic on top jin tokong.

Stir-fried ‘Ee-fu’ Noodles was another dish that brought back wedding banquet memories. Slurpy noodles with straw mushrooms in a savoury sauce—it was a heavy carb dish that will fill you up, no doubt.

For desserts, we had Chilled Herbal Jelly with Honey, Chilled Lemongrass ‘Ai Yu’ Jelly, and Chilled Mango Cream with Pomelo and Sago. The herbal jelly was the best—sweet and cooling. The Ai Yu jelly had a soft lemongrass fragrance and was light and easy to eat. The Mango Cream was a bit watery, but surprisingly, the flavour was there even though the pomelo taste was quite muted.

Just a heads-up, you need a minimum of 2 pax to enjoy the buffet.

A few days ago, we went to Feast Asia to have "A Taste of Phuket" to feast ourselves obviously, duh. We managed to catch the Thai theme buffet just before it ended on Sunday, July 28, 2024. Unfortunately, this offer has ended, but I wanted to share my experience.

There were a few compelling reasons why we went during this period:
1. To eat pleasurably!
2. An irresistible 30% off the total bill!
3. A chance to win a 3D2N stay at Noku Phuket!
With such great deals, we were easily tempted.

Honestly, I expected better. While the varieties and elements fit the Thai theme, the taste didn't quite meet my expectations. It seemed toned down to suit local tastes. Most dishes had a basic flavour that didn't quite capture the explosive, complex blend of sweet, sour, spicy, salty, and bitter typical of Thai cuisine. That being said, the Braised Pork Knuckle and Trotter and the desserts from the Thai theme were worth tasting.

I highly recommend going for their Hyogo Oysters, Poached Live Prawns, and Sashimi, which are part of the regular buffet. The oysters were fat, plump, and succulent, perfect for slurping down. The prawns were super fresh, with heads full of tomalley that I enjoyed with pure joy, and their bodies were bouncy. The sashimi was chilled to the right temperature with a smooth and delicate texture.

Although the Thai theme is over, you can still visit Feast Asia for their regular buffet at a cheaper rate. The food is more Asia-based, and you can check out their menu on their webpage.

Recently, my friend and I indulged in a weekend high tea buffet serving Peranakan cuisine, and we left feeling happily full.

From the atmosphere and costs to the food, every aspect was justifiable. It was the most valuable buffet compared to their normal weekday and weekend buffets, as it was the cheapest of the three and served almost all the dishes.

The buffet featured finger foods like DIY Kueh Pie Tee, allowing you to make your own pie tee with a mountainous topping. Another unique item was Chempedak Fritter, a fruit fritter tasting similar to jackfruit. They also offered standard dim sum items.

The mains included Nonya Mee Siam, Laksa, Nasi Lemak, and sides like Fried Chicken Wings, Babi Ponteh Kong Bak Pau, Sambal Telor, and Sambal Lady's Finger. I particularly enjoyed the Fried Chicken Wings; the marination was deep, and the wings were fried to a perfect golden brown, with an aroma that lingered from the meat to the bone. They were so good that I had quite a large plate of them. The Laksa was another pleasing dish, with its smooth, creamy, and coconutty curry complemented by dried shrimp chili, making it a wonderfully fragrant and slurpy delight. Unfortunately, the Babi Ponteh was a tad salty and the meat wasn't tender enough, and the Mee Siam was also somewhat salty.

For desserts, I tried some Kueh, which were quite normal to me, but I'm not a fan of Kueh, so I can't comment much. The Pulut Hitam was rich, thick, and creamy but tasted slightly burnt, possibly due to inconsistent stirring. Chilled Soya Beancurd and Lemongrass Jelly with Aloe Vera were pure bliss. The watermelon was sweet and juicy. They also offered Mingo Ice Cream. Coffee, tea, and cold drinks of the day were included in the buffet.

Ready your stomach and join me in this gastronomic buffet featuring an Italian theme.

Starting with the seafood, sashimi, and sushi, you'll taste fresh and briny oysters, succulent tiger prawns and many more. I had quite a feast with these two seafood items. The sushi and sashimi were a tad normal, though.

I skipped the Salad Bar because, let's be honest, why waste stomach space on it? Lol. Moving on to Cheese spread, Cold Cuts, Bread Basket, and Chilled Antipasti, I find the options were good. You can get full from this if you're not careful.

Italian section includes northern and southern style dishes like pasta, lasagna, pinsa, nonna cooking, etc. While interesting to taste, it wasn't particularly appealing to my taste buds. I did enjoy the live station Porchetta di Maiale which was tender and flavourful and Fettuccine Truffle Alfredo in Parmesan Wheel was rich, creamy and cheesy. The pinsa had the perfect bite size with a nicely charred, puffy, and fluffy dough, spread with a tangy cheesy combination of ingredients.

If Italian isn’t your thing, the Asian Kitchen features a small spread of Indian, Malay, and Chinese cuisine. The honey-glazed Iberico Pork Char Siew is a must-have. The DIY station features Signature InterContinental Laksa, where you can make your own laksa by adding all the premium ingredients and pouring the laksa curry over. It's a fun experience, though the taste is more catered to international palates.

Finally, desserts include panna cotta, cakes, gelato, fruits, and a chocolate fountain. Each dessert has its own uniqueness and will certainly please everyone’s taste buds.

Overall, it's a pretty decent buffet if you know what to eat and can get a discount. I especially liked their oysters, tiger prawns, pinsa, porchetta, char siew, and forest berry gelato. Remember to check out their deals on their website before making a reservation to save some bucks. It can be quite expensive without these promos.

Saved this Right Now! Don't miss out on this fantastic HOTPOT BUFFET this weekend, featuring charcoal cooking at an unbelievable price. It's perhaps the cheapest and most CP worth you'll find in Singapore. While you may have come across similar-style hotpot experiences, this one is unique as it offers a buffet. At Jackpot Hotpot 金多宝, a normal coffeeshop by day, transforms into Charcoal Bronze Pot Hotpot by night on weekdays and serves from lunchtime on weekends.

We went for weekend lunch, priced at just $18.80+ per person, with an additional $3 charge for each premium soup base, bringing the total to $21.80+. We chose the yuan yang pot filled with Mala and Pig Stomach soup base. The first sip of the soup base amazed us with its rich and flavourful taste. The Mala wasn't overly oily, spicy or numbing, and the Pig Stomach soup was creamy, smooth and comforting. A good soup base is key to a great hotpot experience.

Their extensive menu is already impressive, but they're constantly striving to add even more items to it. Just take a look at the three large fridges stocked with seafood, meat, veggies, mushrooms, processed foods, noodles, and more. If there's something you want that they don't have, simply provide feedback, and you might see it on your next visit. Unfortunately, rice is the only item they don't offer.

Let me explain why it's such great value for money. The seafood selection includes abalone, prawns, mussels, bamboo clams, scallops, squid, and clams. The prawns are particularly sought-after, as they're tender and quickly disappear once they're refilled. Personally, I find their beef to be quite fatty and delicious.

You might be wondering about the difference between weekend lunch and dinner. During lunch, there are no live prawns for you to catch from the tank. However, considering the pricing, it's not a significant issue for us.

And let's not forget about their inclusive buffet offerings. All-you-can-drink beverages and free-flow ice cream are available for self-service near the payment counter. They offer options like lemon tea, lime juice, and water chestnut. Additionally, condiments are free-flow too.
.
I appreciate their attention to detail in providing tissue paper and dustbins, which adds to the overall dining experience.

Waiting for the hype to die down a bit, we finally tried out Swensen's Unlimited, which I've been eyeing since their opening. They served an international buffet with their iconic food and well-known ice cream, but I guess the hype didn't really die down much, as the crowd level was still high. Luckily, we made a reservation beforehand for a slightly smoother transition, although there was still a short waiting time to be seated.

The buffet offered an array of items ranging from Nyonya, Indian, Western, seafood, and 48 rotating flavours of ice cream and gelato. Food-wise, I would say it's quite average; not much really excited me, but there were still some items that I found delicious.

Here are some items that I liked: the prawns from the seafood section were chill, fresh, and succulent; the pizza with a great gooey amount of cheese was delightful; the Kueh Pie Tee, where you could top up the ingredients yourself, had a good outer crust; and the Ondeh-ondeh was chewy, juicy, and would squirt when you bit into it.

Of course, I was here more for their desserts than mains. I tried a total of 9 scoops, which is more than an earthquake, and was semi-satisfied with it. It's not that it wasn't nice; the ice cream and gelato were totally awesome. It's just that I didn't have enough time to try more flavours. There was a short queue to get the ice cream, and you could only get 3 scoops per round, so you had to strategise about it. After getting the scoops, head over to the free-flow topping section and top whatever you like for the ultimate sundae experience.

One thing I observed at the live station is that most of the customers were clueless about where to queue for each station for roasted delights, pasta/baked rice, and laksa/mee siam. I think they can improve by pasting some ground stickers or signs like "order here" and "collection here" so we know which queue to follow, or else people will be overcrowding that area and unsure who have ordered and who have not.

Buffet dining time is strictly 90 minutes. Highly recommend going for lunch as it's more worth it.

Back here to dine on the $17.90+ all-you-can-eat Korean Chicken plus BBQ Buffet excluding drinks. 🍗🔥 There's a strict 90-minute dining policy in place and a minimum of 2 pax. The buffet spread is basic, consisting of meats, fish, and sides.

The marination on the meats was decent, and the lettuce remained fresh, which was great. The other banchan were refreshing too. The Korean fried chicken, available in original, sweet soy, and spicy flavours, stood out with its crunchy skin and steaming hot interior, tasted like KFC chicken. 🍗 I like the spicy one the most.
