Unique flavour.

This really was solid. The ratio is perfect, it's exactly how it should taste(and im guessing that's pretty rare). However it's also somewhat sweet and thus jelat for one because of the generosity of a single scoop

Worth a try if you're one for the classics

There's hardly any pistachio, which was just as well because I love Kaya.

It really was intense and quite thick, the pandan and coconut were both strong(thank god it's not eggy tho, that would be really weird for an ice cream). It's quite sweet though so it does get jelat

Toppings:
I didn't know toppings weren't complimentary, that's pretty scrub

The caramelised pecans were great though, very crunchy, obviously well caramelised

But the dried citrus was terrible, it's slightly crunchy but very hard, plus the bitterness is very off-putting

I love Kaya and almost anything intense, so I liked it a lot and would def rec it for ppl w similar tastes

This is truly the definition of a classic masterpiece. It was so creamy both in texture and taste, every mouthful was pure happiness. I absolutely adored this because it was a classic flavour done really well. I felt like I was teleported back to my carefree childhood days where the only ice cream flavour I ever ordered was cookies and cream.

With all the new and wacky flavours in the ice cream market out there these days, it was pretty amazing to just be able to sit down with a simple flavour and still be equally, if not more, impressed by its taste and mouthfeel. I often find myself trying new flavours out at ice cream shops and not really wanting to get them again (more of a been there done that sorta thing), but this is actually one where I would return to get again.

My friend ordered the popcorn caramel flavour - and it was really good as well, it 100% tasted like you were eating real popcorn but in ice cream form. No artificial taste and all that jazz which is greatly appreciated.

I liked the theme of the shop, it was pink and playful. Wasn’t too crowded on a weekend afternoon. There wasn’t a large variety of interesting flavours - most were standard, but I would expect their quality to be equally good.

Having been to 2am:dessertbar, this creation of Janice Wong appears to be more targeted for a younger audience or for families. The toppings were quite kiddy (think rainbow sparkles and all) but I think it’s meant to bring back the nostalgia of childhood ice cream toppings.

All in all - a joyful experience, definitely felt like a happy kid again when I first had a taste of the cookies and cream ice cream. Thanks Janice!

A new ice cream concept by Janice Wong, serving some exciting flavours ice cream here at Great World.

I saw this interesting waffle cup on display, so decided to opt for this to go with my choice of ice cream.

The berry violet is refreshing taste as you could imagine with its name. Don’t miss the opportunity to add some toppings on top as well.

Caught wind of Softhaus; a new ice-cream parlour that is a concept by Chef Janice Wong of 2am: dessertbar that is situated at Great World City and takes over the former premises of the now-defunct Plentyfull Deli & Bakery. The ice-cream parlour serves up quite a good variety of flavours — think flavours such as Single Origin Colombia Coffee, Sea Salt and Avocado Banana amongst others that caters to those who prefer more conventional flavours, such as Roasted Pistachio, Milk Tea and Cookies and Cream. Patrons would also be able to opt for their ice-cream to come in either cup, waffle cone, or the local classic of being sandwiched in between rainbow bread. Softhaus also provides a myriad of toppings to go with their ice-cream; the selection includes almond coated chocolates, macaron, iced gem biscuits and cotton candy, amongst others.

The Pear Thyme Sorbet was a flavour that seem to resonate with my cravings when we made our visit — opted for the scoop of sorbet as-is in the cup without going for any of the toppings since they didn’t quite appeal to me. Glad that the Pear Thyme Sorbet was pretty satisfying; sufficiently sticky whilst being refreshing with its subtle sweetness from the pear — one can even feel the fibres of the fruits here, while the herb-infusion comes pretty evident as the sorbet ends off with a punchy hint of thyme in its finish. Felt that this flavour didn’t really need the toppings — possibly due to its sorbet nature; just wouldn’t have worked quite as well if one added crumbles, chocolates, sauces, marshmallows or cotton candy to go with it.

Not sure if I am the only one feeling so; I guess I wouldn’t really feel that way if this wasn’t a concept by Chef Janice Wong but some of the toppings just felt a little out-of-touch with the concept being tied so closely to her name. No doubt that Softhaus is an establishment that should not be associated too closely with 2am: dessertbar, especially given how Softhaus is located within a mall and primarily serves ice-cream — perhaps I was expecting more artisan toppings that wouldn’t involve a variety of marshmallows, iced gem biscuits, rainbow sprinkles and flavoured popping balls that one make expect from a neighbourhood ice-cream parlour. Would probably say that expectations have to managed a little if one is intending to give them a visit — still pretty interested to give their Chocolate Sorbet and Avocado Banana ice-cream a try; they do seem to have interesting flavours that I am pretty attracted to nonetheless.
