[Charcoal Claypot Hotpot]
What can one found in the industrial area near Admiralty MRT besides the well-known food companies? Located in Soon Hong Eating House 信豐餐廳, sandwiched between Polar Puffs & Cakes and Pin Si Kitchen, there’s a stall which is the first in Singapore to offer charcoal claypot porridge.
We had the signature Seafood Porridge Pot 海鲜砂锅粥底 (S$32.80) which was claypot packed with tiger prawns 老虎虾, scallops 扇贝, black pork paste 黑猎肉滑, and lala 啦啦 in porridge base, served over charcoal stove. Other available hotpot bases were : Crazy Laksa Siham Pot 疯狂叻沙鲜蛤锅, Golden Soup Fish Maw Chicken Pot Base 金汤花胶鸡锅底, Pepper Pig’s Stomach Chicken Pot Base 胡椒猪肚鸡锅底, and Mala Tonkotsu Pot base 麻辣豚骨锅底.
There’s over 50 sides available in the refrigerator to add into the claypot, priced from S$2.80/ plate for vegetable and mushroom items to S$8.80/ plate for seafood and premium meat items. Just grab a basket from the counter to start shopping for the sides. We gotten prawn paste 虾滑 (S$8.80), tiger prawn 老虎虾 (S$6.80), toman fish slice 多鳗鱼片 (S$6.80), scallop 扇贝,l(S$6.80), scallop 带子 (S$6.80), luncheon meat 午餐肉 (S$4.80), enoki mushroom 金针菇 (S$2.80), century egg 皮蛋 (S$2.80) and quail egg 鸟蛋 (S$2.80).
Help yourself to the complimentary condiment bar at the counter. There’s disposable gloves available, so one could peel prawns without dirtying the fingers. For a non air-con place, it was surprisingly quite cooling dining in as there’s lots of fans around.
We ended the meal by adding rice, and beaten egg into the leftover broth, which created an umami flavourful porridge.
