Option to make your main a set with an additional $6.99, so we did that. The dessert of the day was a three layered cake with a chocolate cake base, chocolate mousse layer, topped with a cheesecake layer. I loved the chocolate cake base as it was rich, soft and moist, but didn’t appreciate the top two layers so much. The chocolate mousse was very sweet, while the cheesecake layer was tasteless, and seemed like cream instead. Probably better to ask what the dessert of the day is, and just order a dessert separately if it’s this cake.
The lobster rolls at Mikes are small, but they’re good for sharing. Each of the buttered brioche rolls are loaded with generous amounts of sweet lobster meat on a bed of shredded lettuce. This ensures that the bread doesn’t get soggy, and also balances the flavours in the rolls very well. The rolls are even better with a bit of lemon.
We had the Caesar salad on the side and all the salad vegetables were fresh. I really wish they’d change how the salad was presented as a lot of the leaves ended up falling off the sides when we tried to scoop them from the plates.
The lobster menu is a seasonal item though, but worth a try if you’re at Mikes!
Very thick, creamy bisque with lots of cheese. There were almost no chunks of lobster meat, but the bisque did taste pretty sweet and delicious. The garlic bread was quite hard and crispy, which I didn’t really enjoy, but the main star was the soup rather than the bread anyway.
Dined at the restaurant chain Mikes, otherwise known as Toujours Mikes in the French-speaking parts of Canada. We ordered a Popcorn Shrimp appetiser to share, which came within 5 minutes of ordering.
The popcorn shrimp is essentially tiny pieces of breaded shrimp, served with salsa and lemon. The popcorn shrimp is fried to a deep golden brown, ensuring that each piece is crispy. The breading is even, but could’ve been much better with more shrimp to breading ratio. The zestiness of the lemon juice went well with the popcorn shrimp as well as the sweet tomato salsa, ensuring that the dish wasn’t too oily or overwhelming. Good for an appetiser, but not that affordable or value-for-money.
