Zichar
Tasty and well marinated! It was neither too tough nor too soft. Had enough bite to it. Loved the sauce too, but one could do without it as it’s flavourful enough on its own. I’d order this again for sure.
Tasted like the regular zichar style chilli sauce! I enjoyed the spicy kick and it definitely paired well with the piping hot mantous. There were about 6 big prawns in it which was great for sharing!
Two flavours here: goma (black sesame) and hojicha.
There were visible sesame seeds in the ice cream which I adore! What a pleasant surprise to find black sesame flavoured ice cream. Gotta give Tom’s Palette a visit before they relocate next month, venue TBC. We wanted waffles too but they sold out so tough luck! Scoopers were friendly and patient so thumbs up!
When we reached slightly before 12 on a weekday lunch afternoon, the restaurant was not too crowded. There was indoor and outdoor sittings. It was pretty windy outdoors.
Dishes we ordered:
M9. Bo Kho ($12.90) - Vietnamese beef stew with lemongrass, carrots, herbs and spices. Served with baguette or rice vermicelli.
M12. Thit Kho ($12.50) - Pork cooked with tangy spiced caramel sauce in claypot. Served with rice.
Portions were filling. Plenty of meat, especially in the Thit Kho dish. It was reminiscent of the Chinese Kong Bak, albeit a more peppery version. So much meat that we ordered another bowl of rice to go with it! Do note that an extra bowl of rice costs $3 though.
The place was empty on a weekday afternoon during lunch time. It’s on the opposite side of Pomo/ Peace Centre! We ordered the Build Your Own Brunch ($18.80) and it took 20 mins to come. The toast was too hard. Grilled chicken was pretty tough. Portions were small.. even the salad was little. Up side was that the servers were friendly and they served free water. I wouldn’t come here again for the food - you can find better food elsewhere at this price. But it’s a chill place to have a quiet lunch.
Oberworks ($18) - 2 eggs your style, streaky bacon, sausage, toast, mushrooms
Sriracha Honey Garlic Chicken Thigh ($17) - chicken thigh bone-in, pomme puree (mashed potatoes)
Pressed Apple Juice ($5.50)
Black Cold Brew ($6)
We wanted to have the Iberico Jowl Bowl and Wagyu Beef Bowl but they were unavailable. Might be a good idea to arrive not long after 11AM since they’re only available then! Any later and they might run out. This place had table service and self-serve water but ordering was at the counter. Food took about 15~20 mins to arrive on a Saturday afternoon at 2PM. Food was value for money with Beyond. Would definitely return for brunch food!
We had the blackened tuna ($28) and charcoal steak ($28). Both came with avo chimmichuri and potato salad on the side. Meats were well seasoned. I exceptionally enjoyed the avocado chimmichuri and peppery potatoes! The taste of avocado was prominent and the potatoes coated with fragrant cream/mayonnaise. It was a pretty good deal with the Burpple 1-1 deal for Main & Drink, but don’t expect the meal to be very filling as portions weren’t huge. We also had a pint of beer ($18) and a cocktail ($20). Ambience was good, the place wasn’t fully packed on a Saturday evening and it wasn’t too noisy either. Service could have been better if the servers were more attentive and quicker. Total bill came to ~$50 for 2 pax. Two plus points is that the place is pretty accessible from Telok Ayer MRT and they serve water without extra charge!
