Looking for some tasty Cantonese style dessert in Shenzhen? You could put 彬妈糖水 on your list.
They have a few outlets across the city and offer their dessert different everyday. I went for their 冰糖银耳木瓜, Papaya with Tremella and Rock Sugar. Served warm and comfortable to enjoy this healthy dessert.
For my lunch in Shenzhen, I decided to try this place called the 电白鸭粥. Their main outlet has been selling since 1998 and currently has a few outlets around the city.
For those who don’t mind trying something new, then I would recommend their duck blood porridge. I would say it doesn’t smell or taste any odd.
Their laofen is something worth getting also. Mixed with lots of ginger and their specialty sauce. Served cold yet so addictive to have more of it.
After went to Macao, decided to make my way to Shenzhen the next day using the high speed train from Hong Kong. Which only takes about 14 minutes to reach the another side.
When we talk about Shenzhen food, their popular rice roll would definitely on top of the list.
So decided to get it for my breakfast here. Among all the shops, one of the famous one would be this place called the 潮新一味普宁肠粉王. Not easy for tourists to come and find this shop. Very far from the nearest station, which needs some research on the navigation before you come here; especially if this is your first time in this city.
I lost my way there as the shop wasn’t visible at the front main road, it is located in a very interesting neighbourhood under small alleyway in between. So you really have to walk into this residential area to find it.
Their seafood options are popular but if you want to try everything, then go for their combination of oyster, beef and shrimp on the rice roll. They called it 生蚝拼牛肉拼鲜虾肠粉 on the menu.
Really tasty and enjoyable I would say. The rice roll is smooth, and go well with the ingredients.
We are familiar with this 炸酱面 Zhajiangmian, a noodles dish commonly found in Chinese cuisine.
But in Beijing, some places they served this noodle dish in its unique way. The ingredients are separated from the noodles, so you have to mixed it yourself.
The sauce is combination of yellow soybean and the sweet bean. Adding with variety of crunchy vegetables to complete a bowl of Beijing style of Zhajiangmian here.
护国寺小吃 is one of the well known Beijing food place that has a few outlets across the city. If this is your first time in Beijing, I would recommend you to visit their original place at 护国寺街.
This time I went for something interesting, the 面茶 is made of grain crop that turned into thick porridge. Topped with peanut sauce, making it taste savoury sweet.
Acquired taste I would say if you never try it before, but comforting food to enjoy in the morning to begin your day here. Do grab some of their fried doughs as well.
Here I am at the Beijing version of Raffles City, which is much bigger than ours in Singapore.
I came here purposely to grab this milk shop from this bubble tea shop called the 隆延茶铺.
Although most people here prefer Chagee as they have lots of outlets across the country. But Lungyen Teahouse is consider a more boutique version of bubble tea shop.
They only have a few outlets in Beijing and one of it located at the basement of Beijing’s Raffles City.
I would say their signature milk tea is very unique and interesting, because it has rice wine in it.
A nicely blend of milk and tea with rice wine, which the tea fragrance is stronger than the milk. A perfect taste for those who prefer not too sweet. Of course you still can decide on the sweetness level.
Walking around Beijing and you should find many shops here that sell 卤煮火烧 “Luzhu huoshao”, which is one of the most well-known traditional Beijing street foods.
The main ingredients are the pork meat, intestine, liver, tofu. The gravy is tasted exactly like our lor mee, but without the noodle.
The China president Xi Jinping once visited one of this chain outlet in Beijing and created a buzz for their bao back then.
You can easily find their outlets across Beijing, popular for their bao and other snacks.
Tiantan is one of the most popular attractions in Beijing and definitely must visit if this is your first time in this city.
So if you are visiting this park and the temple, I would recommend you to grab some of their traditional Beijing breakfast in the morning before entering Tiantan Park.
Located at the north gate of Tiantan Park, this place called the 老磁器口豆汁店 constantly occupied by the locals to grab their breakfast in the morning.
I believe some of you may have saw the interesting videos about how the China people hating about Douzhi and many of them would eventually vomit after having the 1st sip of it.
Yes, a lot of people don’t like this uniquely Beijing dish that is fermented, made from mung beans. That’s why it tasted sour with awful taste.
I was very prepared myself after seeing those videos. But surprisingly it wasn’t so bad when I try it. Since the weather temperature there is cold and the Douzhi is warm and comforting, I find it very pleasant to enjoy a bowl of it in the morning to kickstart the day. But of course, it depends on personal acceptance on it.
If you not dare to challenge yourself with it, they do sell other breakfast snack such as their fried nian gao like the one I have.
Another famous touristy street you can find in Beijing, there’s so many things to try here.
文宇奶酪 is one of them that gained their popularity for its custard dessert.
Although their name suggested cheese but actually there’s no cheese in any of their dessert items here.
红豆双皮奶 is their most popular items, with the custard topped with red beans.
Of course you can’t enjoy their coffee without having small sweet dessert to pair with.
Their peach oolong compliments well with the coffee.
Soloist Coffee is one of the earliest premium coffee shop that setup in Beijing and has since expanded outside of Beijing and venturing to other cities in China.
They have a few outlets in Beijing and continue to be popular among the locals for their beautiful decorative interior and drinks.
I went for a more premium type of coffee here, which is a much exciting experience to enjoy the coffee.
Chosen their Connoisseur selection that available in cold, the taste is combined with intensified flower, strawberry, honey peach and whisky barrel; with the coffee beans sourced from Colombia.
I find the taste refreshing actually, and the barista kind enough to offer me a small cup of the coffee in warm setting to try.
