Say ‘fried chicken’ to any foodie, and they’ll point you straight to this family-style restaurant in Damansara Kim. Here, the Fried Chicken (from RM24) is dredged in buckwheat, resulting in a crispy and light-as-air skin, while still retaining its juicy meat. Burppler XingWei Cheang describes it as “clean and elegant tasting”. They say it's meant for sharing but we say handle it solo.

This popular shop in Mont Kiara has won the community’s heart for serving consistently good Korean fried chicken over the years. Bring the gang and feast on their Fried Chicken (from RM38) — choose between their Soy & Garlic, Spicy & Garlic and Sweet & Garlic marinades. The latter is quite exceptional for its perfect balance of sweet and savoury.

No stranger to the fried chicken scene is Mr Chew’s Famous Fried Chicken Ribs (RM28) that are worth getting your hands dirty for. They are so good that they converted Burppler Rueann Dass into a chicken ribs lover. “The fried chicken ribs see impeccably firm and crisp skin and tender slivers of deeply flavoured flesh.” Best paired with one of their signature Mr Chew's Takeaway G&T (RM42), a fruity concoction of guava and pink peppercorn that's served in a gorgeous takeaway box.

Spot the yellow grills under a giant tree that’ll lead you to Segambut’s hot fried chicken spot. Dive straight for the Fried Chicken With Rice (from RM11) that sees crispy and golden skin over juicy meat. You can also order these deep-fried babies sans rice – perfect for protein-heavy days. It’s served with a delicious chilli sauce that'll cost you an additional RM0.50 for more, but it’s worth every cent.

While this nasi kandar restaurant might be famous for its fish curry, they also fry up a mean Fried Chicken (RM5.30). Order at the counter and watch the friendly chaps build your plate with rice, spicy fish curry, vegetables and a big piece of fried chicken. Look forward to aromatic and crispy skin with moist meat. You can also have it with honey gravy – the sweetness helps balance the spiciness.

This spot is designed for fried chicken lovers. Enjoy pressure-fried chicken in many styles and flavours at this popular spot. Go straight for the Signature Nomms Fried Chicken (RM14.90). Choose between Original, Spicy, Salted Egg or a special flavour of the month, plus a side – there’s mash, fries and more. Alternatively, the Fried Chicken Burger (RM17.90) and Fried Boneless Chicken Chop (RM15.90) is equally yum.

“Legendary” is how Burppler Gary Lim describes this fried chicken, and we couldn’t agree more. Join the queue at 5pm for freshly fried chicken – don't worry, it moves fast! The chicken is sold by the piece (from RM3.50) and you can even request for your favourite cut. Locals always order the chicken with a side of Fries (RM2) and a dollop of chilli sauce.

Forget your typical steamed or roasted chicken rice. This decades-old shop in Seapark serves their Chicken Rice (from RM7) with deep-fried chicken alongside the usual suspects – amazing chilli sauce and chicken soup that warrants an extra bowl. Look forward to tender chicken encased in a thin layer of skin that packs a crunch. Pro tip: Drizzle the extra garlicky chicken oil over the rice for more flavour boost.

Unwind with your best bud after work over crunchy and golden Wakadori no karaage (RM21) while sipping on a Whisky Highball (RM21) at this Japanese resto in tucked in J’s Gate Dining. The chicken thigh bites are fried to perfection – extremely succulent on the inside. The batter is special too; light and salty, and its flavours are enhanced with a splash of lemon juice and mayo.
