There comes a point where meat is so marbled it offers no resistance to chewing. this meat is a good example of that. the kagoshima A4 wagyu is brilliantly marbled, superbly juicy and deliciously tender. if i had bottomless pockets and didnā€™t need to worry about cholesterol i would eat it everyday šŸ¤šŸ¤

the signature chicken and rice from @birdfolks.sg. sliced chicken thigh brined and double fried, paired with garlic butter rice, soft boiled egg and vegetables.
the chicken was tender and juicy because of its brine. the double frying ensured that the batter was extra crispy, and I loved the nooks and crannies that gave it a lovely crunch after frying. the chicken is supposedly marinated in a mixture of asian herbs, but i found the taste somewhat similar to prawn paste chicken which i love. this was basically popcorn chicken on crack.
of note, the rice comes in a variety of flavours including tomato oregano, cilantro lime and garlic butter. each mouthful is rich and evenly flavoured, resulting in a very moreish dish!
I just wish the shop was a little more accessible. it is located at a shopping mall in west coast called NeWest, and probably 80% of the mall is not tenanted. talk about a ghost town!

the char siew rice ($10.90+) from @onebowlsg, locates within the Sultan Hotel along Sultan Road.
the char siew here is lovingly covered in a soy-caramel glaze that is both sweet and savoury. there is a good ratio of meat to fat, giving it both a good bite while coating the oral cavity in an explosion of oily goodness. it reminded me of the amazing char siew from char!
topped with fried garlic and chye poh, the fried rice explodes with garlicky flavour and possesses a strong wok hei. the heady aroma is really quite enticing but a breath mint or two may be in order after you have demolished this dish.
i would definitely return to try the other items on the menu šŸ¤¤šŸ¤¤

truly a gem of a find at @singhkcafe tucked in the corner of a food court at jurong east. (Jurong Gateway Blk 134).
the braised pork rice ($5.80) was an epiphany. the pork belly is unbelievably tender, and the fat just melts in the mouth. the braising gravy is also full of flavour and pairs perfectly with the white rice. the corn and pickled cucumber play against each other - a crunchy mixture of sweet and sour. break the oozy yolk, mix some of it with the pork belly and braising gravy, add a little rice and corn - i really have no words to describe my happiness. if you replaced the rice with barley/orzo/quinoa/(insert hippy grain here) and doubled the price it would not be out of place in a grain bowl shop. but it is in a food court, costs $5.80 and was

food adventures with @alfred.seng led us to @summerhill.sg. This new restaurant has just been open for a month or so, and serves french food in a bistro (read: cozy but cramped) setting. tried their signature french roast chicken and pork collar. I was surprised at how juicy the chicken breast was, and the pork collar was similarly tender. the pork came with a dijon mustard infused cream sauce. it had a floral aroma that i cannot place, but paired well with the pork and the accompanying sides of baby potatoes and kohlrabi slaw.
at $23 for a half chicken and $25 for the pork without gst or service charge, prices are pretty reasonable for the standard of cooking! I would come back to try their other items on the menu! eyeing their croque monsieur and rib roast šŸ¤¤

the truffled wagyu and foie gras bowl from @thequarterssg. while the rice was slightly chewy and the peas a little oily, the mĆ©nage-a-trois of egg yolk, seared foie gras and charred wagyu (with truffle aroma šŸ™„) was an amazing explosion of flavour, texture and unctousness. I just wish that more veg/meat would have been added so as to hide the sad-looking rice poking out from the bottom of the picture. at $24+ as well (gst, no service charge), it is kind of pricey as well. ah, one should be allowed a treat once in a while ā˜ŗļøšŸ¤

Passed this stall many times and finally had the chance to try the food! the serving size is huge - the chicken is easily 1.5x the size of that at astonā€™s or any of the other western chains. I liked the crispy bits on the chicken, and the chicken meat itself was cooked properly. Which, to be honest, is something that should be expected anyway. Nothing fancy about the sides, but in all the dish made for a satisfying meal. at $7.50 in the CBD, I guess it still counts as a -relatively- affordable meal if you compare it to $15 tapas and $25 main courses hahaha

Char Siew and roast meat from @kowloonbayhkcafe_sg. Have wanted to try this for a while after people have compared it to the char siew at Char.
The meat here is covered in a nice sticky glaze with hints of coffee and molasses. the char siew is probably 70% meat 30% fat and each bite is wonderfully juicy. I think the meat at Char has a better.... char (for want of a better word) and nicer burnt crust, but this is pretty decent too! and with one-for-one using the entertainer app I can have more meat for myself šŸ¤¤
