JINzakaya's gyozas are JIN shiok, believe me. Priced very reasonably at $10 for a half dozen of these plumptious beauties (yeah, it sounds a lot better when Nigella Lawson says it), there is absolutely no reason why you shouldn't order a plate of these glorious gyozas.
A terrifically thin dumpling skin that's seductively sticky struggles to encase the utter wealth of filling within itself. The filling of pork, chives and other assorted veggies within are sensationally seasoned, and every bite into it just kicks off a massive flavor fiesta on your tastebuds. The gyozas are fried to perfection, and despite them getting their baptism in boiling oil, they weren't overly oily.
Don't forsake the age old pairing of sake and gyoza, especially not at JINzakaya. Their gyozas are just simply stellar, and it washes down well with their wide selection of sterling sakes.
Many thanks to the lovely Merissa and Yizhen of Les Amis Group for hosting our hungry bunch, and to Burpple for the invite!
This has become the must order item here at Tampopo - This never looks anything close to the type of ramen that I would have readily order. Plain as it may look, the stock is full of chicken collagen and the simple sweetness of chicken soup. The magical touch comes with the Japanese herb (rocket?) that gives it that citrus fragrance, which instantly appeal to your palate. No wonder they say, the smell (in this case the citrus smell) comes before the taste.
I loved every course that was served but I believe the chu toro with shoyu foam was a unanimous favourite with the very interesting texture from the savoury foam that worked so well with the sufficiently fatty chutoro.
The other nigiri sushi were damn good too - Sea bream w truffle shoyu, shima yuzu, kanpachi, ika with sesame, torched alfonsino, akami, chu toro with shoyu foam, shime saba, torched salmon with truffle soya (which chef proclaimed will dissolve, not just melt in your mouth and it was 👍🏼!!) Also had a seemingly simple but very satisfyingly tasty sweet kani handroll with truffle, wrapped with crisp seaweed.
Not only was the seafood fresh with every element well-thought for a medley of flavours and textures in each course with seasoning done right without distracting one from the freshness, the rice is a very important part and it was done well here.
Quite a steal for $68 with this quality and experience, definitely will be back again!

Thin choux with a sugar crumble crust, injected with an outrageous amount of pastry cream, Matcha in this case. Indulge on.
