Hidden in a quiet spot around the foodie areas like Amoy Street and Club Street lies a Thai restaurant called Royal Siam Cuisine.
Think gigantic plump prawns with glass noodles soaking up all the oomph flavours from the herbs and Thai spices. 🤤 The creamy tom yum soup (you can choose chicken, prawn, or seafood) is not for the faint-hearted; it sent fire down my throat to my tummy. Do go for it if you are into all that hot and spiciness!
There were hits and misses. While the moo ping hits all the right notes of sweet, savoury and tenderness, the fried prawn cake fell short of expectations - inside was just excessively mushy. 🫢 Also, the Thai milk teas were rather weak and lacked the distinct robust spiced taste.
Nestled in a residential area and next to an urban farm, Viewdee (@viewdeebistro) serves up both traditional Thai staples and fusion dishes.
We really loved the Breaded Prawn Donuts ($9.80) and Moo Ping ($2.50 each). While most people like the Thai Red Milk Tea ($4), I prefer the Thai Green Milk Tea ($4) at Viewdee. Regardless, both renditions have a great balance of spice and tea flavours. Not forgetting the quintessential dessert item - Mango Sticky Rice ($11.80). 🥰
Since I didn't and won't get to travel overseas this year, I shall eat my fill of the food around the world. 🤗 One of the best things about Singapore is that we can pretty much find almost all the cuisines we can think of. This time, let's have some Thai! 😉
Sanook Kitchen has opened a new outlet at Heartland Mall @ Kovan. Besides having wallet-friendly dishes, I like that Sanook Kitchen serves healthier rendition of Thai food. Food is less oily and dessert is not overly sweet, yet the distinct Thai flavours still hit the right spot and satisfy my taste buds. 👍🏻
Start with the hot and sour Tom Yum Prawn Soup ($5.90), 🤤 prep the tummy with some Deep-fried Stuffed Chicken Wings ($4.90), dig into the fragrant Basil Beef Rice ($5.90), not forgetting the quintessential Pad Thai Noodles ($5.90), and end off with the delightful Mango Sticky Rice with Coconut Milk ($6). 😚
P.S.: You can ask for sugar to add to your Pad Thai Noodles if you want.
Ribeye Skewer from Chatuchak.SG is not to be missed. Seared until just medium-well (the way I like it), simply seasoned with only salt and black pepper, drizzled with nacho-cheese-like sauce 🤤, this SUPER GIGANTIC ribeye skewer is a dream come true for beef lovers like us.
Thai Green Milk Tea ($4) from Chatuchak.SG. There are many local cafes and eateries that set up stalls at Chatuchak 2020, and one of them is Kopifellas. Sadly, the Thai Green Milk Tea tasted weak and dull. Moving on... 🤗
Thai Milk Tea ($4) from Chatuchak.SG. Look out for the stall with a tearista giving a splendid tea-pulling-spinning performance. Yes, that's one of the few authentic Thai stalls serving really thick and robust Thai milk tea. 😍
Pork Skewer (1 for $2 / 3 for $5) from Chatuchak.SG is a must-try! Love the caramelized crisps and smokey flavours. The sweet sauce is not cloying at all and the pork is super tender. Don't just buy one, just get 3 or more since the wait will be long anyway. I promise, no regrets. 😉
Pad Thai with Prawns ($8) from Chatuchak.SG comes with 3 surprisingly HUGE and succulent tiger prawns. Springy noodles with rich flavours of sweet and tanginess. Can't say you've been to Chatuchak market without having a plate of pad thai. 😚
So if you are indecisive and want to try everything, Fong Sheng sandwich is a must-try at this breakfast place hailing all the way from Taiwan. This multi-layer sandwich has its signature pork patty, omelette, potato salad, shredded lettuce, tomatoes and peanut butter. Some might shy away but the tinge of sweetness from peanut butter works for me. 😁 I'd recommend the popular cane-flavoured black tea to go with this heavyweight sandwich. 😉
Savoury and tender pork patty, buttery omelette and melting cheese sandwiched between fluffy toasts 🥪 with aromatic crusts. Great way to start my day at Fong Sheng Hao (@fongshenghaosg) with its signature milk tea! 😋
I must say the restaurant has one of the worst lightings (blue + orange), making food phototaking a very difficult task. But the awesome tasting food convinced me not to be deterred by the challenging photography obstacle.
This is a must-try at Mrs Pho! Sliced tender beef, chunky cuts of star fruit and vegetables stirred with the sweet-citrusy dressing. Place a good mix of everything on a cracker and take a big mouthful. Unquestionably refreshing yet satisfies the carnivore in me. 😋
Enjoy your comforting bowl of beef pho with this hefty-looking beef sticks. Look at that beautiful glaze! The robust sweet-savoury marinade seeped deeply into the tender meat, making them the best sides to compliment the clean-tasting pho. 😋
