Prices are nett and there's no service charge or GST, which makes this two-week-old spot really popular with the Hougang residents. Head there early to snag a seat indoors, otherwise be prepared to sweat it out sitting outside. Get appetites going with the Crisp-Fried Baby Squid ($4) or the Green Tea Smoked Duck ($4), which comes with five slices of smoked duck drizzled with passionfruit vinaigrette. For those who want it all, go for the Seven Wonder Ramen ($7.80) that comes with seven toppings, including prawns, ajitama egg and bamboo shoots. It comes with a Thai green chilli seafood sauce that Burppler Jayson Yeo describes to be tangy and fiery, packing a lip-smacking punch! The housemade pork and chicken broth is light yet flavourful — you'll want to slurp it all down to the last drop. Apart from the Seven Wonder Ramen, you won't go wrong with the Miso Kakuni Ramen ($7.80) that comes with perfectly torched pork belly.

Went for the cheapest one ($18.90); and honest to say, the 2++ hours queue was definitely worth it. Freshly grilled unagi is a burst of flavor & the crispiness is a delight in your mouth. Nonetheless, my personal preference will still be the soft-textured unagi compared to Man Man's crispy one. ☺ extra tip: if you are coming here for dinner, you might want to arrive there between 5-5.30pm (the earlier the better). Queue can get crazy long!

Hubby and I decided we should have something soupy for break fast and I saw this the moment I opened the Burpple app. Just had to go try. Verdict: 5/5!! The soup Base with some chili (depending on which level) is very refreshing. Will definitely come here again another time!

Swing by after a late movie with friends or after a long night at work with your colleagues and order a piping hot bowl of Volcano Ramen ($11). The chicken-based broth is robust in flavour and is sure to satisfy with slices of chicken chashu and bamboo shoots. Choose from three levels of spiciness — you might want to stick to Level 2 unless you really love a kick! If you're in the mood for something lighter, have the Kaisen Don ($16.90). The rice comes topped with freshly sliced salmon and tuna cubes.

Open daily from 6pm to 5am, this late night ramen joint is the place to go after hours of merry making in the Clarke Quay area. Choose from four different styles of ramen, all of which come with a French lobster base broth that has been simmered for six hours. For a jolt of heat to wake you up from a tipsy stupor, go for the Spicy Miso Lobster Broth Ramen ($15.90), which comes topped with tender pork belly, chicken char siew, black pepper prawn wantons and bamboo shoots. The tongue-numbing, flavourful broth is a blend of Sichuan sancho peppers, chilli oil and three types of miso. They also serve a very tasty Fluffy Omelette Rice ($10.80).

Unagi was so fresh that I don't mind paying more for a bigger slab! The most worth-it meal I've ever spent my $12 on. I can foresee myself coming back here for my unagi fix when I'm tight on money.

Located near Farrer Park MRT station, JINzakaya is a hip, new izakaya concept by the Les Amis group, and a more affordable alternative to its sister outlet, Sushi Jin. Sharing plates — think Sushi Jin's famed skewers — are the focus at dinner, but at lunch, the restaurant offers extremely value for money set lunches ($12.80 with a drink). Choose from 16 mains including rice bowls, sandwiches, ramens. Try the Kimchi Ramen or Jin Tori Ramen (the latter comes with shredded chargrilled chicken and an onsen egg) — both feature a very flavourful chicken broth — or go for one of the hearty salads like the Jin Tori Salad, which comes with homemade ginger dressing and moreish kawa ebi. To complete the meal, order a side dish like Fresh Handmade Gyoza ($15) or Ika Sugata ($15), whole grilled squid to share. Pro tip: There are only about 50 seats so make a reservation and come early, as the menu items run out quickly!

For the local-inspired creation, the Spicy Miso Lobster Broth Ramen is created with blended spices and chilli such as spicy oil, Japanese Ichimi and Sichuan Sansho, making this set to be a more flavourful and aromatic broth designed for local taste-buds.
