After months of talking about this place, we finally visited it for brunch!!!! We ordered the aburi salmon and a DIY chirashi bowl. We were tentative at first because there was barely anyone at the restaurant, but we decided to give the place the benefit of the doubt because after all, it was opened by the Ministry of Food. We did not regret it :-) the aburi salmon bowl was torched to perfection with a substantial amount of mentaiko covering it. It was enough to balance out the salmon and rice yet it was not overwhelming (after all, I personally think that mentaiko can become a bit "gelak" after a while. Anyhow, the dish was well-balanced, with the sweetness from the rice, the wholeness from the salmon and the "wokhei" from the torched mentaiko. The DIY chirashi was good too, although I did wish that the pieces of sashimi on top was smaller. However, the sashimi (salmon and tuna to be exact) were fresh and paired well with the seaweed and rice. The condiments (there were 4 complimentary sides for a medium DIY chirashi bowl) were not the best, it felt a little out of place rather than compliment the bowl. However, overall, both dishes were good and definitely worth the affordable price paid. Do not be afraid of empty places for looks can be deceiving!!! I'm glad I stepped in to try the food offered by Kaisen Tei.

Such a creative dish yet I still enjoy inari in its simplicity, with the sweet bean curd skin wrapping the seasoned sushi rice. The idea of adding the mentai is sure to satisfy mentaiko lovers though, highly recommended for those who want a mentaiko fix!!!

We arrived at 11.25am to be the first ones bc we thought the place opened at 11.30am. Turns out it opened at 11.45am but thank goodness we went early because the queues formed so quickly that we were 3rd in a line of 20 over people. Ordered the famous bars chirashi ($12.80) and tamago, salmon and inari mentai (comes in pairs, photos to follow). We paid $20 each, how worth is that? So thankful we skipped the waiting and went straight to filling our famished bellies with fresh and quality Japanese food yet light on the wallet 😛😛 will come again on days that I have time to wait around for a Japanese fix.

Left full but satisfied!!!!! Ordered grilled squid, mentai salmon roll (thumbs up for purple rice!!!), amberjack, saba fish, assorted sushi, udon, soba, garlic fried rice, stingray bones etc. rly stuffed myself but 10/10 would recommend 😛😛 if I were hungrier, this will be more shiok. But given that I wasn't that hungry, this is an affordable yet high quality restaurant.

I have lost count of the number of times I have been a patron at tanuki raw. However, I have not been here in a couple of months and decided, it is time to return. Ordered both of our favorites - Kaisen chirashi don // foie gras truffle yakiniku don and they did not disappoint. In fact, I feel that tanuki has even "upped their game" with their tasty mixed rice topped to the brim with fresh sashimi and saucy meat. My love for you will never die, tanuki raw 👌🏼👌🏼

Finally tried the salmon mentai don ($10) after it has been raved about for so long!!!! As well as the pork katsu ($7)!!!! Honestly in terms of the quality of the food, this place does deliver. The pork katsu was crispy and tender with a thin yet flavorful curry that goes with the rice and the salmon mentai don was creamy, generous with the salmon and packed with a punch. I enjoyed the food thoroughly although due to the fact that my expectations for ambience did not match with that of the place, perhaps I will not visit again.

Nothing else I need to say except holy moly my tastebuds are on fire 👅🔥🔥🔥 I love how they make their sushi in little bite size pieces because let's be real, sometimes sushi, despite all the glory in its appearance, is almost impossible to stuff into the mouth. But here, one mouthful is packed with a punch from the dollop of aburi mentai sauce, creaminess from the avocado, crunch from the cucumber and a thick roll of fresh salmon inside and on top (or if you order soft shell crab then it adds to the crunch inside) rly rly wholesome bite although it is a little pricy at $18++ for the soft shell crab salmon aburi roll and $16++ for the classic salmon aburi roll. I will pay for the quality though, and I will definitely come back~~~~

Hands down, the best Chirashi don I have eaten. Except, the most expensive as well HAHAHAHA but priced at $40, the amount of fish they give is insane!!!! 1 part rice to 2 parts fish, you can tell how much fish they give :-) also, the $40 includes two mini appetizers and a dessert which to me, makes it all the more worth the money. It feels like a mini omakase meal to me 😍😍😍 For all who wants their Chirashi fix, this is defo the place to go!!!

Extremely amazing dinner for the second time at Senmi sushi!! Bc we didn't know what to order, we asked the waiter which rolls were recommended, by which he said the black dragon and dynamite roll. We tried the dynamite roll the last time so we decided to get the black dragon (unagi) and another roll (which name I have forgotten but it is the one with a few ingredients as titled on the menu (like ebi or something) and oh my they were absolutely mouthwatering 😛😛😛 super satisfying and it doesn't burn that large a hole in your pocket... Ok maybe a little, black dragon was $16 ++ and the ebi something maki was $22 (so this was a little pricier) but honestly so worth it, this is a good place to go for good, exotic Japanese food.

Alright it isn't THAT cheap but it is quite cheap, $15 ++ for a medium sized DIY Chirashi don (choice of 4 types of fish) with an additional $3.80 for salmon roe is quite the steal :-) really a fulfilling meal because the bowl was filled to the brim with freshness !!!! Top quality generous portions means I will definitely come back for more 😋😋😋😋

For only $16 ++ at Senmi Sushi, this aburi wagyu beef with tempura, avocado and cumcumber is truly packed with explosive flavors for your tastebuds👅👅 10/10 would recommend
