One of those places that tick all my boxes for a great meal out - taste, interior & service. First off, the bold colors, wall murals & neon signs were a feast for the eyes even before I sat down. Staff were really friendly & attentive.
We ordered the rice bowl & noodle bowl with their 3 specialty meats - roasted pork, char siu & roasted duck. My dining partner was pleasantly surprised to find that her rice bowl came with chicken rice and was commenting about how good their chilli is.
The noodle bowl was a surprise too - the noodles were tossed in this fragrant mix (of what looks like mince meat and pork lard?). Iām not usually a fan of roast duck so I canāt comment much. While i really enjoyed the crispy skin on the roast pork, i still find it a tad too fatty for my liking. But all was good by dunking the pieces of meat into the chilli. The char siu on the other hand, while also fatty, won my heart. I had thought that I wouldnāt enjoy it given how much fats I could see but when I put it into my mouth, I surprised by how melt-in-the-mouth it was. SO GOOD. Where did the fats go haha.. it just melted. I loved the sweet yet slightly charted bitterness of their char siu.
So going to order a whole a plate of char siu on my return visit.
Our table of 3 went for the Wholly Bucket ($139 including two sides of our choice; serves 3-4pax) and it was such a delight! The staff literally came over clutching a bucket and proceeded to pour out the fragrant & drool worthy contents on the table lined with plastic and grease paper.
We chose their signature chilli kicap sauce and opted for fries and fried mantou for our sides. I could see why the chilli kicap is popular; it was savoury and packed a spicy punch. The two crabs were huge and fleshy and there were also big prawns and so many clams and mussels... as if that isnāt enough, there were also hotdogs, potatoes & corn drenched in all that chilli kicap goodness.
My dining companions and I had a really great meal and were already discussing about returning to try their Wholly seafood nasi lemak which comes in a huge plate for 3-4pax as wellš
Wasn't expecting this to turn out to be one of the best laksa I ever had. But wow. Begitu sedap!!ššš¼Super satisfying portion tooš - 2 huge tiger prawns, generous chunks of chicken meat, brinjals & tau pok.
I might or might not have been grinning from ear to ear after my mealšššš
Very refreshing & an interesting mix of flavours. I would actually go back for it. I do wish it was served in a bigger plate though. It was really hard to toss, or even mix around, in that small plate. If I'm not wrong it only comes in 1 size but it feeds my family of 4 nicely(we all had our own mains as well as 2 sides).
