☀️ Breakfast & Brunch
Woke up feeling like sweet food this morning and so sweet food it shall be! When your craving's as vague as anything sweet, everything sweet will fall on your hit list. Trust me, I know. So I spent the longest time going through the menu trying to decide on just one thing and finally decided on this brioche French toast.
And if my life depended on this decision, it most definitely was the right one. I don't know if they've got anything else more delicious on their menu but sincerely I do not care because this was just perfectly delicious. How good you ask? This thing was huge but I nearly almost finished all of it, myself.
And did they say brioche? Because they really meant brioche when they said brioche. Thick and dense but still fluffy the French toast was (wth contradictions?) with a perfect hint of savoury (you know, the egg and the butter).. That cutting through the sweet and tangy berry compote, heavenly maple syrup and sweet creamy kapiti vanilla bean ice cream. I can hear my stomach growl.
Side note: Editing photos from Italy made me feel all Italian and so I got a cappuccino which was pretty decent. There's also this orange juice that everyone else was getting, it looked damn good. But you know what they say, orange and milk..
Side note: I made such a huge mess eating this, think sludgy roadkill, that I highly recommend this for all first dates! (:
Was told they're famous for their pancakes and with a generous serving of three fluffy but nicely crusted pancakes and perfectly tangy blueberry compote to cut back all that sweetness (also coming from the heavenly maple butter), they deserve every bit of that fame.
I did savoury this morning, the Country Breakfast. The eggs were perfectly scrambled, the hash was to die for, the ham was all right and the buttermilk biscuit while extremely delicious and golden was under baked inside. Having just marathoned every season of TGBBO, yes, I confirmed it with my finger.
The maple cured bacon side was meh and the cappuccino was only all right too.
Portions are crazy huge, true to their New York origins, so in hindsight, we probably should've shared. We were both so stuffed that we didn't eat again till 6 and that's saying a lot.
Service was slow although the staff were apologetic. There wasn't a queue like everyone before us had warned but that could be because we got there at 8ish..
Verdict: Get there early and go for the pancakes.
