Carbs And More Carbs: Bread, Toasts & Sandwiches
Located on the same level at the Orchard MRT (near Zara), it is easier to pick up your favourite French pastries along with an exclusive coffee blend, Le Soleil - created in collaboration with Nylon Coffee Roasters.
Lovely posh space though limited seating, expect a host of brand-new hot mains like Black Truffle Scrambled Eggs Croissant ($34), Seafood Pot Pie ($24) and Chutoro Brioche Feuilletee ($38).
They will sell their famed cakes, tarts and pastries all day for dine-in and takeaway, brunch from 11am-3pm (last order 2.30pm) and dinner and desserts from 6pm-10pm (last order 9.30pm).
Specialises in Tonkatsu, it’s no surprise that the Cafe Ma Maison serves a mean Truffle Rosu Katsu Sando. Exclusive to the cafe, the juicy panko crusted pork loin cutlet has a hint of truffle and is accompanied with shoestring fries. Sliced into three, you can have it on own or sharing with friends.
ありがと from East Coast. A new addition to the busy Job Chiat is Hello Arigato, known for their Japanese Milk Bread Sandos.
Then there’s classic Tamago Sando ($14). Sandwich between the Japanese milk bread is the creamy Japanese Egg Mayo, tamagoyaki and an enticing flowy Ajitama egg.

Joo Chiat outlet exclusive is the HCG Sando ($15) with succulent chicken and obvious but not overpowering prawn-paste flavour.
If you know me, you’ll know how much I love my desserts. So I was pleasantly surprised that I’ll like the new savoury donuts & cruffins by Mr Holmes Bakehouse more than the sweet bakes.
With a menu overhaul, they have more interesting bakes such as Irish Cream Cruffin and Bacon Mac & Cheese Danish. But noteworthy mentions will be these two!
But my heart goes to their Sundried Tomato & Bacon Jam ($7.50). The new flaky pastry has a filling of tomato, chive cream cheese and bacon jam, complete with crispy cheese skirts.

The toothsome Everything Donut ($5.80) is piped with chive and caper cream cheese, then glazed with spicy Sriracha honey and a coat of house-made Everything seasoning. Giving it a sweet, savoury and slightly spicy bite all at once.
Sangas & coffee morning! East side still going strong with another new cafe replacing Stamping Ground Coffee.
Interesting selection of beans for drip coffee, though the menu seems lacklustre with Sangas aka Sandwiches like Tonkatsu, Grilled Mushroom & Eggplant and PB & Strawberry Basil.
The only sweet item on the menu, PB & Strawberry Basil ($15) might be a hit-or-miss item. Chunky PB with housemade strawberry basil jam, if you’re not a fan of basil then skip this.

A filling option, Tonkatsu ($18) is made of Pork belly Katsu with the iceberg. Paired with housemade daikon & zucchini pickle, it helps to cut through the greasiness.
Taking over the space previously occupied by Habitat, it was transformed into a chic airy cafe.
Ordered Big Breakfast ($28) and Truffle Fries but their highlight was the Cheese Toasties ($21). 3 slices of crispy toasted sourdough filled with three type of cheese (Parmigiano Reggiano, Swiss cheddar and goat cheese), comes with poached egg and tomato jam. It is a sinful option to have for breakfast and best for sharing.
Artisan bakes and French dining. HENRI, a new dining restaurant with bakery by Bread & Hearth has opened at Far East Square.
Select from a wide range of viennoiseries and bakes such as signature Croissant, Almond Chocolat, Butterhorn, Cheese Danish and Foccacia. These artisan breads are made with French lactic butter and wheat imported from a French miller to authenticate taste and texture.
So grab a Almond Croissant or Apple Turnover ($4.50 each) with a cup of coffee and have them in the terrace just like in Paris.
Another new bakery-café serves modern French pastries and bakes like sourdough and croissants.
Settled for their classic Ham & Cheese Croissant ($7) since the Bi-colour Croissants aren’t ready until after 10:30am. Can’t help but wish the savoury croissant has a much more flaky and buttery texture.
P.S: don’t you feel the rattan chairs, hanging plants and sandy pink walls remind you of a cafe in Bali?
Mornings like this! Let’s have a quick breakfast and coffee.
Löwe’f, a family-owned business that bakes its bread, makes a cosy breakfast spot as it is hidden away from the crowd.
Eggstatic Breakfast ($10) is made up of free-range scrambled eggs, choice of ham, bacon or spam with bread and salad on the side. Paired their butter-seared brioche with the velvety rich scrambled egg, avocado and spam, it’s a simple yet satisfying breakfast choice.
P.S: they are located right next to Bras Basah MRT Exit A.
