Opening a few steps away from Kebun Baru Food Centre is Double Scoops, a parlour that offers both ice cream and coffee. Interestingly, their Salted Gula Melaka flavour uses gula melaka imported from Malacca! Classic flavours such as Rum & Raisin are priced at $3.20 per scoop and $5.60/ $7.90 for double and triple scoops respectively, with an additional $0.50 per scoop for premium flavours like Red Velvet Cheesecake. If you want two flavours (as their name recommends), definitely go for the very authentic-tasting Orh Nee and roasty Sicilian Pistachio flavours ($6.60 for both).
Ballistic Meatballs is a meatball concept in The Bedok Marketplace which serves handmade meatballs at affordable prices. Go for their Battered Prawn Triple Sliders ($7.90) — prawn meatballs with roasted garlic encased between crispy deep fried mantous — or their Signature Ballistic Meatballs ($5.90), which are sesame-battered cheesy beef meatballs. Alternatively, be adventurous and customise your own meatball meal with four types of meatballs and three toppings to choose from!
Kane Mochi from Thailand has arrived on our shores! Located at Bugis+, it is a takeaway mochi ice cream concept with flavours such as Matcha, Korean Banana Milk, Sala Cider and Cookies & Cream currently available, with more flavours scheduled to be launched in the future. The mochi ice cream is priced at $5.90, $11.50 or $17 for three, six, and nine respectively, and you get dry ice to keep your mochi cool for orders of six or more pieces! Go for the Thai Milk Tea and Taro flavours.
Situated within the Park West Condominium at Clementi and helmed by Chef Patrick Heuberger (formerly from Le Bistrot Du Sommelier and Au Petit Salut), Casse-Croûte (pronounced "kras-krut") is a humble kitchen/café, which serves a selection of traditional and unique charcuterie as well as other French bistro fare. Go for their Duck Sausage with Foie Gras and Pistachio Nuts ($8.40 for 100g) and their Braised Lamb Meat Balls in Tomato Sauce ($16 for eight). For those who want a sweet finish, go for their Profiteroles with Vanilla Ice Cream ($12).
Rollie Olie offers gorgeous sushi rolls that are freshly made upon order. You get to choose from an interesting variety of novel Asian fusion types such as Bollywood with curry prawn filling, or the K Pop kimchi-flavoured sushi roll. Prices range from $12.95 to $16.95 per roll. For familiar flavours, go for the Sunkissed Salmon ($16.95), or the Dos Amigos ($14.95) which marries grilled eel and cream cheese, and is topped off with red roe!
New to the Bali Lane stretch is Richmond Station, a British-themed café that serves scones, savoury muffins, British sponge cakes and other bakes, as well as a small selection of mains. For a light snack, try their delish Turkey Bacon and Chives Muffin ($3 — request for it to be warmed up and spread with butter!), or their Zesty Crab Angel Hair Pasta ($18.90) for something more substantial.
Located at Satay by the Bay and owned by local artiste Felicia Chin, Wholly Crab is an affordable, casual seafood joint which sells and serves their seafood by the bucket. Customise your preferred fusion of Louisiana-style seafood with popular local flavours such as Kung Pow and Laksa, or go for an interesting twist like Marmite. There are two options — Love Bucket ($60) for 2-3 pax and Wholly Bucket ($120) for 5-6 pax. For add-ons, go for their signature Nori Tempura Soft Shell Crab ($12) for that added crunch!
Helmed by Alexander Chong, former Sous Chef of Keystone Restaurant, By The Fire is an avant-garde Western grill concept located within Alibabar along East Coast Road. You must have the interesting Scotch Egg ($6.90), which is an onsen egg blanketed with a layer of minced meat and finished off with a coating of fried crumbs. Also go for the impressively tender Grilled Pork Jowl ($15.40) or the flavourful Keystone Seaweed Pasta ($8.90) which is mixed with bits of kombu seaweed, fried garlic and sakura ebi. Perfect for a casual date night with lovely food.
Joining the buzzy Jalan Bukit Ho Swee estate area is Dessert Project, an ice cream parlour offering bold and fresh ice cream flavours. While the usual classic flavours ($3.80 per scoop) like Mango, Coconut and Matcha are available, the premium flavours ($4.20 per scoop) which include Thai Earl Grey -- a daring combination of Thai Milk Tea and Earl Grey — and Melon & Parma Ham (!!) are certainly intriguing and worth a try. Definitely go for the wonderfully nostalgia-inducing White Rabbit Candy flavour ($3.80).
OMB (short for Oh My Bacon!) prides itself on being all about bacon, and delightfully translates its passion and love for bacon through bacon-centric mains, desserts, drinks and even in-store merchandise. Go for the indulgent Bacon Bomb ($28) -- melted cheese, pork and beef wrapped with crispy bacon -- and the Bacon & Egg Cups ($12). For those with a sweet tooth, try the Jekyll & Hyde ($2.50 per piece, or $12 for 6 pieces), which are bacon strips dipped in dark and white chocolate!
Hyde & Co launches a new brunch menu this month! A departure from their former British-inspired menu, you can now expect a range of brunch and dessert items. Go for the Speedy Gonzales ($14) — braised pulled pork with housemade BBQ sauce, scrambled eggs and guacamole on a tortilla. Alternatively, get The Big Ben — toasted muffins with sauteed mushrooms, poached eggs and roasted potatoes with your choice of either bacon ($17) or smoked salmon ($21). If you like waffles, Hyde & Co offers them in interesting flavours such as Butterscotch Popcorn ($14) and Affogato ($12).
Popular London burger restaurant MEATliquor makes its international debut in Singapore at Duxton Hill, bringing over some serious gritty swag with their hipster maritime-themed decor and vibrant graffiti. Apart from their selection of gourmet burgers, also expect chicken wings and cocktails. If you're looking for a place to let loose with friends and have a sinfully greasy night out, MEATliquor certainly fits the bill. Go for their signature Dead Hippie burger ($22) which features two French mustard-fried beef patties topped with their signature "dead hippie" sauce, or the cheesy and spicy Dirty Chicken Burger ($16). Have the Sambal Fries ($10) on the side and wash that all down with an Oolong Floater ($22) — mango and oolong soda with Pampero rum.
