This was sooo good!! I’ve been craving for shawarma platter for the longest time, because most places sell wraps instead?? But I find it much more satisfying to dig into a large plate of shawarma!! :”) So I was really excited to finally have a shawarma platter and this did not disappoint! We ordered the Chicken Shawarma Mandi Rice ($10.90) and it was really good! The chicken was very tender and tasty, and the rice was fragrant. While the plate might look huge, the portion is just right for one person!

The best of both worlds, when you have unagi and foie gras in the same dish. In fact, every other component here was done really well too.
πŸ”Έ
The fresh, soft and mild savoury unagi came with a slightly charred and clean tasting foie gras that had a distinctive buttery liver taste.. absolutely delightful. But everything else here was good too - the rice was moist and came with bits of egg, the chawanmushi had a perfect texture that bursts as liquid as soon as it touches the mouth, and the miso soup had additional dimensions of sweetness and zest to it, probably due to the use of onions and some tomatoes.
πŸ”Έ
I'm very happy with this, and the chef's attention to details for the supporting cast in this dish.

Set within lush Bishan Park, this casual chic restaurant turns out smart plates, and the garden setting makes for an atmospheric day out with your dog. Pop by after a morning frolick in the park, pull up a seat at the alfresco dining area and feast on hearty brunch plates like Corned Beef Hash ($12), Buttermilk Pancake ($10) and Serrano Ham Sandwiches ($15). Burppler Shawn Loh loves the Crabmeat Aglio Olio ($19) β€” if you're a chilli fiend like him, ask for extra spicy only if you can take the serious heat. Pro tip: The spacious alfresco area is surrounded by bushes β€” great for curious pets but humans should pile on the insect repellant.

Choose from roasted duck, char siew, roasted pork, spare ribs, Chinese sausage, roasted chicken and even roasted duck drumstick. The price varies according to the number of items you select.

Look at the big roasted duck drumstick, over-the-top char siew and pile of roasted chicken. This modest and quiet eatery serves such big platter of meats that costs only $18! 😍 Each table is given herbal soup that usually complements roasted duck. What you can't miss is the homemade chilli that still has ikan bilis inside. It is not punchy spicy but rather savoury-sweet kind of spice that goes well with any of the meats I've ordered. πŸ˜‹

There's still room for improvement in the taste department. The meats were slightly saltier than expected and the duck was tad dry. Chicken is passable cos' it's hard to win Wee Nam Kee in my heart. And even though the char siew lacked tenderness, I love the sweet burnt crust on the sides. Regardless, I would return to Jiu Xiang Xiang when I'm in the vicinity for that big generosity of roasted meats at such wallet-friendly price. πŸ˜‰

Taking over the Plain on Craig Road, Hustle Co is a cafe that serves brunch grub, hearty mains and best of all, 12 rotational craft beers on tap! With long communal tables to accommodate large groups, tasty dishes all day long (they start at 9am) and drinks till midnight, you know where we'll be after a hard day's work. The offerings for lunch and dinner differ, so you can try different items each time you visit. If you're coming for brunch, opt for the crowd favourite Salmon & Rosti ($23), topped with a generous slice of pan-seared salmon and salmon roe, and wash it all down with a cup of their excellent Coffee (from $3.50). In the night, sink your teeth into their Dirty Burger ($19), a 160g beef patty sandwiched between two brioche buns, garnished with bacon, taleggio and cheddar cheese, and served with a side of fries. When it's available, order a pint of the 8 Wired Flat White Coffee Milk Stout (from $9). The New Zealand brewed craft beer features a traditional milk stout with the addition of Cuban and Brazilian coffee. We're hooked.

The spinach sauce and minced olives really stood out! Homely and satisfying. It went really well with the spaghetti. The drumstick was generous and this makes a fulfilling dish. Highly recommend the mushroom soup to go with this. Pasta J is GST-free as of date of review.

They do not practice restrain with the "rempah" here, which is why Rumah Makan Minang is one of my top three go-to's for nasi padang whenever a craving strikes.
On rotation for my usual order are: "sotong hitam", "ayam goreng sambal belado" (I swing both ways for the red and green chilli versions), "assam pedas ikan" and "sambal goreng".
The one item I never not get is the "paru" (beef lungs). Theirs is extra appetising as they fry it with a bit of chilli and "serundeng" (spicy fried grated coconut).
Do expect prices to be slightly higher than what you'd pay at most neighbourhood hawker centres though. My plate pictured above plus a cup of "teh o siu dai" came to $10.50. But I think it's worth every cent!

You know you're off to a good start to the day when you receive a plate like this. Two good slices of sourdough covered in mushrooms ($14), and if you're a big eater like me, I'll suggest adding on the Scrambled Eggs (+$3) and Bacon (+$3) too. All-in-all it's slightly pricey but it's worth it in my opinion, not many places do a decent western breakfast and Atlas does it well. The cafe is pleasant, comfortable, and also located near the Botanic Gardens if you decide to burn off the extra add-ons and make yourself feel better.

There are many little bars and restaurants along circular road, but this is one of those really laid back drinking spots you won't expect to find. On Fridays and Saturdays, there's even a beer pong table set up on the road! Really enjoyed the beers we had, especially the Dead Guy Ale ($16). So stoked that they had the super yummy cider La Chouette ($15), easily the most apple-y, satisfying bottled cider I've had. Was lucky to have tried the Thai Black Tea Pale Ale ($10) that they had as their draft beer on rotation. Very flavorful yet light, it was a cheap and great option for the rest of the night! Will come back with a small group of friends for some chilled out Friday drinking again, but be sure to have your dinner elsewhere first, the food here leaves much to be desired!

Onion Bagel with Cuban Chicken Mojo!

Located at Bishan Bus Interchange, there's a Cafeteria on the 2nd floor! Walk past the other hawker stalls and GAZAM!

Cuban Chicken has a nice zest to it, breast meat served but not dry. They have gluten free and vegan options too. For 9 bucks, this is a healthy price for your waistline!

Located at the top of Odeon Tower, this spacious rooftop bar is the perfect place for you and your colleagues to loosen up after work. Come for the Happy Hour deals (house pours start from $5 at 5pm to 5.59pm) and stay for the crowd favourite Chili Crab Cheese Fries ($14). First fried to a glistening golden brown, Loof's inch-thick potatoes slices are blanketed in a layer of cheddar cheese and then smothered with a generous scoop of moreish chili crab sauce β€” it is practically all Sri Lankan crabmeat. Wash the messy, cheesy and spicy combo down with The Gummiberry ($22 for two shots) that comes with a meringue on the top!
