Cakes & Tarts
Fans of Uncle Lee’s nostalgic cakes, you’ll be pleased to know that they have launched a new flavour this month!
Made for durian and Kaya fans, here’s the new MSW Durian Pandan Layered cake ($30 for 6”). Combining that fragrant pandan cake with a coat of MSW-pandan custard which has a more jello texture.
But my favourite is his Nostalgic Peanut Buttercream Cake ($20), an airy vanilla sponge cake with buttercream generously coated in peanuts. I can finish half the cake myself in just two days.
While I miss their old outlet at Tanglin Halt, the current outlet (at Kampung Glam) and eStore made it easier to order than before. Click on https://uncleleeconfectionery.cococart.co to order.q
OG Strawberry Shortcake Can ($11.80) is the one I like. Layers of fluffy chiffon cake with whipped cream, it is layered with sliced strawberries and puree from Hokkaido.
Along with the range of Fuwa Cans (from $8.80), there’s 3 SG Exclusive ones - Matcha, Mango & Orange and Tiramisu. Light and fluffy, these Fuwa Can is filled with layers of cream, fruit jelly, fruit puree and fruit jam.
The one cake that says it all!
Other than the breathtaking view, don’t forget to get a slice of LAVO’s famous 20 Layer Chocolate Cake ($28). Stacks of luscious chocolate chiffons and creamy peanut butter mascarpone layers adorned with peanut brittle, this is a must-try for chocolate and peanut butter cake lovers.
Decked out in pastel pink, this hidden patisserie makes a great hangout place for girlfriends with interesting bakes like Goma Cheesecake, Speculoos Cheesecake & Pulut Hitam Cake.
The Pulut Hitam Cake goes surprisingly well with the hot Black Sesame Latte ($6.50). A local twist to the usual cake as the light chiffon cake is layered with black glutinous rice and coconut creme. Not overly sweet and when pair with Black Sesame Latte, it bring out the nutty fragrance too.
Impressive petit gâteau as Alice Boulangerie launched the CNY Festive Box made up of two special treats - The Empress Fan & Ong Lai.
The fan-shaped dessert is made of layers of smooth vanilla and mandarin orange sandwiched between trocadéro sponges. Encased in hand-painted chocolate decor, it is a piece that’s too beautiful to be eaten.
And what’s CNY without pineapple tart? Tropical flavours as it combines coconut mousse filled with honey pineapple compote, peanut dacquoise, and a mango glaze finishing.
Other signature items worth checking out include their Yuzu Tart & Champagne Ispahan.
Lady M’s seasonal Black Sugar Peanut Mille Crepe Cake & limited edition Lady M Lunar New Year Gift Set.
Just in time for LNY. The Black Sugar Peanut Mille Crepe Cake is a toothsome morsel, perfect for gatherings. Layers of handmade crêpes smothered in luscious peanut buttercream finished with a glossy layer of black sugar molasses and crushed peanuts. It has a nice toasty flavour (due to the use of Frangelico Liqueur) but is on the sweeter side due to the top layer.
In shades of yellow and brown with a touch of blue. The new cheesecake boutique cafe QUIEC by Olivia is decked out like a burnt cheesecake and smells like one too!
If you prefer a sweeter treat, Gateau Basque ($10) is a buttery almond-flavoured cake filled with a layer of vanilla pastry cream infused with rum. Velvety smooth pastry cream infused with vanilla beans and rum, it is encrusted in a flaky pastry.
In shades of yellow and brown with a touch of blue. The new cheesecake boutique cafe QUIEC by Olivia is decked out like a burnt cheesecake and smells like one too!
Variety of cheese-based bakes to choose from such as Olivia Burnt Cheesecake (from $15/4”), Gâteau Basque ($10/slice) and American Cheesecake Macaron ($12)
Signature Olivia Burnt Cheesecake comes in round tart sizes: 4” ($15), 6” ($48) and 9” ($78) instead of the usual slices. A sweet-savoury treat that contains a molten core made of blue cheese and cream cheese, this is a must-try.
Tea break @aicafesg. A display of cakes with interesting options like Matcha Goma ($9.80).
Shaped like bamboo, it is made with layers of black sesame mousse, black sesame feuilletine and matcha sponge encased within the matcha mousse gateau. Nice pairing though the black sesame seem to overpower the matcha notes
Made famous by Aussie Black Star Pastry. The dainty entremet consist of sliced watermelon sandwiched between layers of rose chantilly cream and nutty almond dacquoise. Topped with strawberries and grapes. While the flavour is light, I wish they had been more innovative to compare up something of their own.
Such a sweet name for this entremet. Lychee mousse and rose sponge, it consist of small lychee bits and topped with lychee popping boba. Definitely a “very feminine flavoured” cake.
Ending Sunday on a sweet note with Kaiser from LA VIE, a new minimalist cafe along Jalan Besar. Made of mango mousse, passionfruit sponge, mango bits and mango popping boba, the entremet is a combination of tropic flavours though I wish for a stronger sourish taste as this leans towards the sweet side.
Gotten their Ultraviolet ($6) to go along. The iced drink is a mix of sparkling melon oolong tea and butterfly pea gives it a beautiful gradient colour though the latter doesn’t add any flavours
