Helmed by pastry chef Mei Wan Tan and restauranteur Marcus Low, The Kitchen Table boasts Mod American cuisine. It's the perfect marriage; operating as a bakery in the day and serving up sharing plates in the evening. The Raspberry Coconut Crack Slices are a zestier, lighter take on Momofuku Milk Bar's crack pie - they're supposed to be as good as crack. Their Fudgy Brownies and Chocolate Chip Cookies are particularly good as well! If you're not in a rush, enjoy a slice of a tin cake with coffee or tea in this bright, clean, airy space. It's almost as if everything is good here - even their rustic sourdough.

A good croissant should always be flaky with paper-thin layers, a crisp exterior and a soft, fluffy interior that can only be achieved with a good amount of butter and technique. That's exactly what you'll find at Les Deux Patisserie, renowned for baking the best croissants in town. Their entremets are aesthetically stunning, you might not bear to eat them, but you definitely should. Play it safe with the Le Marquis, a classic combination of chocolate and hazelnut. For something out of the ordinary, try the Le Palladio, featuring a crispy almond tart with layered joconde, vanilla ganache and white truffle mascarpone. You can't leave without being tempted by their wide variety of macarons!

Opened by Christophe Chatron-Michaud and his Malaysian-born wife, Yeast combines a boulangerie, bistro and wine bar under one roof so you can be completely spoilt by everything French. The Chausson aux Pommes, an apple turnover, is well executed - stewed apples encased in a crispy, light pastry. If you're feeling adventurous and want something savoury, go for the Smoked Duck Cheese Puff! Typical French food like Ouefs Cocotte and Pain Perdu are served for breakfast daily. It'll be hard not to leave with some breads and pastries! (If you have dinner there, you get a complimentary bread basket - kinda like killing two birds with one stone.)

Tommy Le Baker is a hidden gem specialising in baking authentic French breads. As a purist with an emphasis on the fermentation process of bread-making, Tommy ensures that the loaves he sells in his tiny bakery are top-notch. They're kneaded, shaped and baked on-site using quality ingredients. Specialties include their traditional French baguette and sourdough, which are truly some of the best you'll find in KL. Apart from bread, they sell quiches, tarts and sandwiches. Seating space is limited, but you can always grab loaves/pastries to go!

The Carpenter's Daughter is an artisanal bakery that's all about using organic and natural ingredients. They incorporate heart-healthy ingredients and offer low GI, gluten-free and whole wheat breads, without compromising taste. If you're health-conscious and/or have allergies, you'll want to check them out. Get the gourmet bread platter to sample a little of everything - artisan foccacia, seven grain, sourdough and more! The pumpkin loaf is a winner, but if you'd like to treat yourself a little, go for the Italian squares.

Step into The Bread Shop and you'll be greeted by an array of baked goods, ranging from individual quiches to custard almond buns. As the first bakery in Malaysia to offer the Kouign Amann, they've done it just right. Buttery, flaky and crispy with a caramelised exterior, it's a pastry that you really want to treat yourself to. Make sure to get it when it's fresh out of the oven! Other popular items include the Banana Scotch, a pastry filled with banana and topped with caramel, and the Cinnamon Swirl.

Enticing loaves of bread beckon you to enter this charming little bakery/cafe, and it's hard to leave without taking something away. Having opened this place with their son Ted Boy as inspiration, the owners of Tedboy refrain from using preservatives in their breads, and give unsold breads to charity daily. Their love for wholesome food is evident, and you're bound to feel better after dining on their simple, hearty breads, sandwiches and croissants. Go for the salmon mango croissant, a well-matched combination that's set off by the buttery, flaky pastry. End your meal with their chocolate fudge brownie that is pretty intense, perfect for chocolate lovers!

Known as the confectionery with one of the best egg tarts in town, each bite of Tong Kee's silky smooth custard encased in flaky pastry brings back childhood memories for many KLites. Established in the 60s, their consistent standard can only mean that they're clearly doing something right. There are 2 versions to choose from: flaky or butter pastry. The flaky egg tart features a super flaky crust that most are used to, while the butter pastry crust is crisper, with a distinct butter flavor that would make butter-lovers swoon. Other must-try items are the chicken pie, Swiss roll (Mango is a crowd-favourite!) and lotus mini baos.

Set in a lovely bungalow complete with high ceilings, a patio and a garden, Levain Boulangerie is just the place to escape to on the weekend. Don't be deceived by the posh ambience, the prices here are reasonable! Feast your eyes on their delightful array of breads, tarts, pastries and cakes laid out for you to choose. While you're piling your tray high, be sure not to miss their beef rendang donut and the strawberry tart. If you're hungry, their hot menu features a super tasty dry curry pasta that won't fail to satisfy!

Set up by a Korean family, Nabé Bakery Cafe's popularity has led to the opening of a second outlet at Solaris Mont Kiara. From fancy cakes to biscuits to muffins and breads, this typical Korean bakery mainly uses ingredients imported from Korea. Try their cheesecake - it's fluffy and light, so you won't feel weighed down after. On top of baked goods, they serve coffee, pasta, and patbingsu - essentially the Korean version of Ice Kacang. Toppings can include fresh fruit, mochi, crushed oreo pieces, azuki beans and syrup, espresso or condensed milk, depending on which patbingsu you order!
