Firm, non-fishy, absolutely amazing. I love this izakaya place for its great food that goes so well with their alcohol menu, and extensive range of sake and sochu.
Well-made beef bowl, a tad small for people with growing stomach. The wagyu are nicely grilled and charred. Onsen egg could be a little more runny, so that I can coat every single grain. They are quick in the service, so that’s a major plus point for people who wants a quick meal. They have an extensive list of alcohol.
Simple, private and absolutely divine; this small restaurant dark decor and wooden finishing makes dining pleasant, with a tad of class. Food here is impeccable and the presentable is beautiful. Price is a little high, but the Chef attention to details, make every cent worth dining here.
For what it is worth, the bowl do serve generosity. Fresh salmon slices, topped with a huge dollop of mentai, torches just a notch to bring out the flavours. And finally sprinkled with dried rice seasoning, and voila, a don that satisfy the masses with its price point and its appeal to the masses.
Great for people who needs a quick meal, because you can’t really linger around, the minute you’re done.m as the owner would chase you out (and totally understandable, the stall is small).
I can’t get enough of these 5 thick slabs of salmon belly. So smooth, melty and absolutely divine. Priced at $16/plate, I think it’s really value for money for what I’m getting. (Basically popping 2-3 slices into your mouth from other restaurants).
SHIMA HOKKE TEISHOKU
Grilled Atka Mackerel Set
$14.90 SGD
For those who needs a complete meal, this restaurant (located in various part of Singapore) is the place to be. My personal Favourite is this Shima Hokke set, that is totally value for its money, and utterly moist , flaky and firm. At its price point, you are served with whole fish, grilled to perfection. Smoky and light, perfect for those who is on diet, or healthy living. Do be wary of bones, but a small hazard to an otherwise full meal.
Thick slab of aburi slices of fishes on top of a bed of fluffy Japanese rice, is my kind of dinner. And that melt-in-the-mouth beef aburi sushi, certainly hit all the right notes. Thanks Bernard once more.
The only place to go, for a quiet dinner, and superb food. Take this grilled Ebi mentai ($25). Chunky tiger prawns and mushroom, grilled to perfection on a scallop shell. The mentai sauce, well-flavoured without being too jelly, and honestly being singaporean, anything mentai is always a sure win. Not to mention, Bernard is generous when it come with portions.
Probably one of the better silky-smooth chawamushi, that I have ever tasted in Singapore. You can tell that they strain the egg mixture, before steaming it. Definitely a must have, when you're here.
Crowded, even til late. The sushi restaurant is run by a very experienced Japanese Chef whose knife skills is amazing. The sashimi slices are very fresh, and thick. But what is really interesting, is Toni Sushi have a special soy sauce for sashimi, and sushi. The sashimi soy sauce is lighter in colour, and saltier, whereas the sushi soy sauce is a heavier, darker in colour, and a hint of sweetness to the soy sauce. And honestly, I thought it went well with the rice. Clean atmosphere, and friendly staff (although understaffed), would definitely make come back for more dinners.
Clear dashi konbu stock soup, a dash of soy sauce with kelp and seaweed and a good dose of sweet, well-clean (not a single grain imbedded) Manila clams.
Perfect for a cold nights, or just because you love clams. I highly recommend it.
Thick slices of salmon belly, that's so fresh, it literally to die for. Melty and soft, like butter in your mouth. You know that you had it good and legit when it's this mouth-watering. And also at the cool price of $28/plate, it is a little steep but forgivable for rare indulgence.
