Restaurant Chains

I like my pasta like my metal – blacker than the pits of Tartarus. Midnight tentacles of squid ink stained linguine empowered by a triumvirate of garlic, basil and parsley for a seriously sensational flavour bomb, amplified by bits of salty, spicy chorizo. This new item on the menu is worth ordering.

You can't go wrong with scoops of vanilla ice cream barely contained in airy puffs topped with chocolate sauce and almond slivers - a simple yet refreshing way to end the meal.

A little more fresh basil and Bufala mozzarella would have this a surefire winner. As it stands currently, I'd go for the Salmon & Kale or Meatball & Brussel Sprouts pizzas.

I adore roast cauliflower, and Peperoni's new offering hits the right spot. Nicely charred, the head of cauliflower is subtly smoky and meaty. It is served with a lively and complex spiced sauce of sumac, yoghurt, tahini, garlic, honey, white sesame, marjoram, oregano, thyme, parsley.

Tender but otherwise mundane calamari with a barely discernable sear, curiously accompanied by balsamic glaze and semi-dried tomatoes. A slightly odd but otherwise not unpleasant pairing, though I'd pick other dishes over this.

Not in the least bit authentic, but that didn't stop me from enjoying the chewy penne smothered in a cheesy heavy cream sauce with loads of bacon. It's hard to go wrong with a "classic" such as this.

A straightforward, almost plain version of something you could probably whip up in your own kitchen, this new vegetarian option is nontheless serviceable, with a refreshing mint yoghurt lending creamy tartness to the sweet pumpkin.

Peperoni's refreshed menu sees the introduction of healthier alternatives, star amongst them in my opinion is this vivacious appetiser packing bags of flavour and texture. The homemade anchovy basil pesto is earthy, salty and deeply umami, and complemented by creamy stracciatella, refreshingly crisp and juicy ice plant and hazelnuts on toasted ciabatta.

For affordable casual Italian in town, you won’t go wrong with @linoppbar ‘s 3-course set lunch. Choose from a healthy selection of appetisers, mains and desserts, I guarantee you will be stuffed at the end of the meal.

For the final course, I could not resist getting the poached pear. It may be old fashioned, but when done right, is one of my favourite desserts. I'm happy they used quality vanilla bean gelato, and the Myer's dark rum infused sauce was fragrant with warm spice and cinnamon, but the pear was still a little crunchy and would have benefited from a few more minutes of poaching.

Their Spaghetti Aglio Olio won’t garner any points for authenticity, it’s tailored for local tastes, with an overpoweringly garlicky profile and some heat from bird's eye chilli. Fortunately for me, I like garlic. There's a generous portion of prawns and squid, which makes the dish quite hearty.

I never say no to fried chicken, so the Spicy Wings were a no-brainer. Thickly coated in seasoned crunchy batter, deep-fried and piping hot within, these hit the spot for me.

I never tire of this simple classic that's both healthy as well as tasty. Strips of thinly sliced steak and capsicum cooked to sizzling tenderness on a hotplate, served with soft tacos for you to wrap the fillings in to your liking.
