Had been passing by Sunshine Plaza for a while now noticing the opening of the new King Bao within the building at the side facing Bencoolen Street β these folks had taken over the former premises of yet another dining establishment serving up mainland Chinese fare. The facade of King Bao should be fairly recognisable from far β the store facade features the use of bright red that makes them stand out quite a bit from the other shops located along the same row β its neighbours includes that of establishments such as Thai Gold Food as well. An establishment that mainly focuses on serving up mainland Chinese-style burgers, the menu does revolve around its burger offerings that generally sees the availability of chicken, beef and fish options; they also do serve up their burgers in Combo Meal sets, while they also have a good line-up of ala-carte snacks that serves up as side dishes as well.
The Grilled Chicken Pineapple Burger is just one of the few burgers that King Bao has to offer; that being said, this would be one out of two chicken burgers that is on the menu at King Bao β the other would be the Crispy Chicken Burger. As one would have noticed, the burger bun for the burgers at King Bao would differ from the usual burgers that one would usually get at Western or fast food establishments β this would be a mainland Chinese-style Pita bread that is baked fresh upon order; the Grilled Chicken Pineapple Burger would also come with a pineapple ring, grilled chicken and some leafy greens with mayonnaise in between as well. One thing we did enjoy about the Grilled Chicken Pineapple Burger was how it is being served warm β the Chinese-style Pita bread giving a soft yet toasty but slightly airy bite that isnβt quite as dense or carb-y as the traditional western-style burger bun out there; only felt that it was missing of a slight crispness from the crust on the exterior, though we did like the slight roast-y fragrance coming from the black sesame as well. The pineapple ring seems to be sticking onto the undersides of the top bun, but it does give a juicy and zingy contrast to the savoury, juicy and tender slab of grilled chicken to it; the flavours of the slab of chicken being fairly similar to New Orleans-style roasted chicken wings that some places to serve up. The mayonnaise bridges the chicken and the Chinese-style Pita bread with the leafy greens that gives the Grilled Chicken Pineapple Burger a more wholesome touch.
