The fish ball soup from Jalan Tua Kong Lau Lim at Simpang Bedok offers a delightful experience with its very soft yet slightly bouncy texture, striking a perfect balance that enhances the overall enjoyment of this traditional dish.

Convoluted history aside, this famed brand is amongst the pricier options, though you receive a generous portion and fresh ingredients, making it worthwhile. Expect queues during lunch.
.
The fish balls and fish cake have a light springy chew with mild sweet savoury salty flavour. The mee pok / wide flat egg noodles have a soft texture, and the gravy is decent with savoury spicy notes.
.
What I love is the generous tender minced pork and fresh pork slices, lending meaty sweet salty flavour. And the fresh deshelled prawns which are juicy and sweet savoury.

Back for mee pok - we used to have this almost weekly, when they still had an outlet in Bugis. Was so happy to see the some uncle today at the Simpang Bedok branch!

Our mee pok was more saucy than we remember, but we did still enjoy the springy noodles. Soup was flavourful as usual. Can’t say that it’s the best around, but it’s always a comforting bowl for us.

This was quite alright, toast was decently crisp, kaya didn’t really make an impression. Although it was quite average, it still managed to satisfy the kaya toast craving!

Finally made my way to this much hyped Bak Chor Mee place which is mediocre at Best. Certainly not worth the 45 mins waiting time.

Pretty damn good.

The bcm sauce had a good umami from the Bak chor Broth, and the pork was cooked well too. Fishballs were springy and soup was pretty decent. Sambal was sandy and fine, with a kick and very well seasoned. Quite a unique taste so worth a try. Overall pretty shiok but the sambal could work better w the whole dish
