A good accompaniment to the light chicken soup that Moon Moon serves. The braised pork rice is savoury, with a small amount of lean meat with fatty bits. Pretty decent.

Udon like noodles that were silky smooth and chewy at the same time. Pretty nice texture I must say, but sauce is on the watery side. For a simple dish, it is pretty pricey.

Known for its homely and comforting health soups, Moon Moon Food serves up authentic Taiwanese and has been consistently on the Michelin Bib gourmand since 2018. This bowl of chicken soup has a slight tangy spicy note from the chilli pepper, but was overall light on the palate. There was a generous amount of cabbage, and a piece of chicken that was unfortunately not as tender as I’d liked it to be.

The Unagi Maki was packed with flavour from the Garlic Mayo, the portion was very large as well and was very filling. Also ordered the Warrior Beef Don - the beef was well cooked and tender! The greens added a satisfying crunch and more texture to the bowl! The Keto Don came with thick cuts of salmon paired with shirataki noodles, making it an interesting low carb option! Also had the Chuka Idako (baby octopus) which was savoury and tangy.

I really loved and enjoyed the bakmi I had in Indonesia and was looking for an equivalent in Singapore that sold the dry, braised version. Kulon is a good substitute to quell that craving. If you’ve had the Chinese zha jiang mian before, think of this as a less sweet, but way more savoury bowl of noodles. Noodle texture wasn’t as qq as expected in other reviews, but the sambal merah really elevated the experience.

Just look at the sear on this pork chop! And the sheer amount in this economy. While the pork chop isn’t thick, I believe it’s what keeps the meat tender, juicy, and flavourful. Really good stuff and worth a try if you’re looking for traditional western food.

My new obsession is old school western food and Jet Winds really hits the spot. While 511 is a smaller sized hawker, they have a bunch of solid food stalls there. From Seng Kee Herbal soup to Aliff Nasi Lemak and of course to the (maybe??? better than 85) minced meat noodles, most of the stalls there have pretty much a cult following. Jet Winds is no stranger, especially with its long queues during peak dinner hour. But the queue moves pretty fast, so that extremely juicy chicken thigh (not fatty at all) that’s seared perfectly and complemented with that piping hot rice drizzled in sauce will be in your tummy in no time.

This was a fun starter to have. Generous about of creamy lobster salad that was full of lobster and prawn meat as well as seasonal fruits. If you like lobster salad sushi, think of that but wayyy more decadent. Each bite was rich and decadent, a really unorthodox experience compared to your normal kueh pie tee. Would recommend to share this among four people so that each person can just have 1, because it will get kind of filling if still want to make space for the other dishes.

Xiao Ya Tou is that one place that you’ll walk past and be so intrigued by its decor that you know you have to try it. With its old school retro ambience, the space is cosy, fun, and great for gatherings. Service is both attentive and warm, and I personally think it’s a great place especially to bring your friends from far who want to have fun Asian but fusion cuisine.

The wok fried wagyu hor fun fell a bit short for me in terms of the hor fun itself. The wok hei wasn’t strong, and the flavour of the noodles itself tasted a bit bland. I did ask for their sambal to spice it up though. The wagyu beef jazzed up the hor fun a good ton, especially because it was nicely seared and well-executed till tender. A dish that’s both a hit and a miss for me.

Scaled by Ah Hua Kelong is no stranger for serving up one of the freshest seafood known. But trying it for myself was a whole new experience. I’m really not a fan of mussels, but I’ve never tasted mussels to plump, fresh, and tender. Perfectly cooked, it did not have too rubbery a chew. The curry was also a game changer. Spicy, creamy and so well balanced, I didn’t even know that I needed this combination. What more complemented with that deep fried mantou which everyone loves. Highly highly recommend!!
