This was a common sight at many tables. I could see many elderlies enjoying it. Ok.. it is a sign. 馃敻锔忦煍革笍
The history of Jia Xiang goes way back 50 years. Mdm Chen, the 63 year old owner, started helping her mom when she was very little. And they have been at the same location for half a century.

The taste is quite old school. Gravy was brewed for at least 3 hours, is thick with a robust spiced undertone. A wonderful tangy and slight sourish finish. Garnished with tau pok, a hard boiled egg and very crispy croutons which tasted like pork lard. The homemade sambal chilli had a haebeehiam and dried chilli base that added the extra punch. The bright fiery orange appearance might scare some away. But it was not overly spicy. It was addictively good.

I did like it. It was an appropriate spicy meal to counter the scorching day. So are you old school or new school? For me, old school is the new school.
