One Night in Tom Yum

$20.00 · 11 Reviews

Tom yum consomme is exactly how you would expect it to taste, but it wasn't very spicy. Quite refreshing actually and really fragrant, and went really well with the crispy bits. The crab meat were quite strong and probably sweeter, whiter crab meat would work better with the profile of the consomme. The udon tasted like normal noodles here for some reason, quite lacking in chew.

The process of locating Little Bastard really makes one swear "little bastard..." under one's breath. No signboard, no proper entrance, but a spiral staircase hidden WITHIN The Refinery that leads to this bar on the second floor. That being said, the hidden location makes it an ideal choice for romantic date nights or intimate gatherings.

One Night in Tom Yum is an interesting spin-off from our regular cold soba, whereby inaniwa udon and tom yum consommé replace the soba noodles and tsuyu. I actually like this version better - it's equally refreshing, but the slight tartness from the cold tom yum broth makes it really appetising. The chunks of crab meat and liberal sprinkle of crispy shreds provide good textural contrast too.

This is a very refreshing cold dish. The tom yam consommé had all the right perk-me-up flavours, the Japanese innaniwa udon was easy to slurp and the crab meat made the whole dish a whole lot sweeter.

Comes with Rice Patty that's seared till crispy on top, Shallots, Quail Eggs & Shibazuke Pickles; this is a GEM! Also of note worthy is the cheekily named One Night in Tom Yum ($20) comprising of Cold Japanese Inaniwa Udon, Crab Meat & the Cold Tom Yum Consommé served in a separate glass bottle like vessel; truly innovative.

PS: Get here by walking through @therefinerysg & ask nicely to be taken to the Little Bastard; a cupboard will be pushed open to reveal a spiral staircase leading you to this mod-sin restaurant/bar that's also a cocktail heaven complete with mahjong tables for dining & local inspired cocktails! Not Your Average Chendol ($22) & ChengTng Gao ($18)?!? Yasss... Oh did I mention their menu comes looking like a pugilist secret manual!?!

(No, i'm not scolding you.)

Bringing you back to Chinatown setting in the 70s, they do serve food and we tried their Ru Rou Fan (braised pork rice) and One Night in Tom Yum (basically tomyum noodles). Food was alright but definifely overpriced at $18 and $20 respectively. No matter what, keep those 3-letter words to yourself. #TMD

One chilled night it was.
Couldn't resist trying this after seeing a few good reviews. The spice level is tolerable and the tom yum consommé is more towards sweet than sour I find. Overall a nice cold noodle dish to have with loads of crab meat.
I just noticed the menu says you can have this with or without coconut milk. Wish the waiter had asked cos I definitely would've liked to try it with coconut milk. The only thing that would hold me back from trying this again is the price at $20 for this. But I'm still looking forward to going back and trying some other dishes and cocktails.

A lovely play on the dish to avoid bated breathes and sweaty brows during a romantic dinner. Note that cocktails are a great affair at this stowed away joint as well. Reservations strongly recommended.

A spoonful of a little bit of everything in this bowl — springy cold Japanese Inaniwa udon, an unassuming tom yum consommé that packs a legit punch and a generous heap of crab meat — is a party in the mouth.
You can opt to have it with or without coconut milk, but say yes for more rounded flavours. Yes, it’s served cold but that’s what made this dish even harder to pull off, but boy, did it work!

To say this dish surprised us would be injustice. In fact, it was pretty freaking amazing. ✨ After you pour in the chilled tom yum consommé and start digging in, you suddenly realize the broth has become this creamy, aromatic mess that we all started fighting over. 😂 I'll leave it to you to guess how this happens but this bowl is as mysterious and alluring as the place itself.

Just take note that food items are generally not huge, so be prepared to splurge a bit if you're looking for a full meal with drinks.

A magical bowl. Pour in the ice cold clear tom yum consommé, mix it all. Watch it turn into a creamy bowl of heaven. Never thought I'd enjoy a bowl of cold tom yum this much, nor did I think it'll be one of the most memorable things I'd tasted in a while!
