Deep-fried dumpling with prawn bits & assorted vegetable served with superior broth. This little dumpling was crispy on the outside and had lots of flavour. You're supposed to take it and dip it into the broth so that the shell soaks in the flavour and becomes soft. But I quite enjoy the dumpling crisp instead as the fillings are already of a tender texture. The broth tastes nice with the dumpling, but I wouldn't drink it on its own as the flavour was a little strong for me.

This liu sha bao was available only at Din Tai Fung's Paragon outlet, but you can now find it at DTF Northpoint City too. Apparently there's limited quantities daily. One of the better steamed custard buns I've tried with a good balance of savoury/sweetness and has just that little bit of a fine sandy texture.

Enjoying weekend brunch with a twist. A step away from the usual cafe fare, Xiao Ya Tou jazzes up some local favourites for brunch.

Like this take on one of my all time favourite dishes — the simple Chee Cheong Fun is served with juicy, tender dongpo beef and home-made hoisin sauce on the side then sprinkled with shallots and toasted sesame. This will always be a comfort dish to me.

Weekend brunch at Xiao Ya Tou is available on Saturdays & Sundays 10:00am – 3:30pm. You can even order from their range of locally inspired cocktails if you're yearning for an early drink.

The more flavourful of the noodles at Ah Sam Cold Drink Stall. I would probably recommended this instead of the CKT. Slimey and well coated with sauce, the flavour does get a little overwhelming towards the end though, so it's best to share. Would I order this again?! 🤔 yes, if I'm not the one paying. 😅

Finally tried the much raved about CKT at Ah Sam Cold Drink Stall. Nice noodles, but slightly too oily and not flavourful enough for my liking. Could also have been cos they got my drink order wrong and the not so great service when ordering that made me less accepting of their popular dish. Is this worth a try? Yes. Is it worth $12?! Not to me.

Didn't get to try this popular item on the menu the last visit when this shop was still in the dingy back alley. Now the shop is bright and air conditioned. This is nice to eat except the clams get a little tough when cold.

One chilled night it was.
Couldn't resist trying this after seeing a few good reviews. The spice level is tolerable and the tom yum consommé is more towards sweet than sour I find. Overall a nice cold noodle dish to have with loads of crab meat.
I just noticed the menu says you can have this with or without coconut milk. Wish the waiter had asked cos I definitely would've liked to try it with coconut milk. The only thing that would hold me back from trying this again is the price at $20 for this. But I'm still looking forward to going back and trying some other dishes and cocktails.

Enjoyed the fried chicken wings the most out of this lot, warm and well coated in salty goodness. The BBQ pork chee cheong fun had a gamey taste, not to my liking. The siew mai were seriously puny—we ordered the basic siew mai though, so maybe opt for the king prawn version if you visit so they might come in larger serving sizes.

Macaroni in a tomato soup base with luncheon meat. This is like something you'd eat at home.
Don't expect mind-blowing dishes at Tai Cheong Bakery. Instead expect comforting, simple fare that you can top off with a few egg tarts to complete your meal.

Served with your choice of maple syrup or dulce de leche, this is one of the better options at Tai Cheong Bakery. But then again, butter makes everything taste good. More towards affordable casual dining, don't go with high expectations. It's a very cosy (shoulder to shoulder) kinda dining experience and with the queue, it's not exactly somewhere you'd want to be chillin' at after your meal. It's a good place to fill your belly or to pick up some egg tarts (the queue is shorter than Tai Cheong at Takashimaya). Plus a bonus! This outlet has a Durian & Cheese Tart available. I wouldn't mind more of that! 😋

Can't decide which of the new Sea Bass dishes I like better at Spicy Thai-Thai Cafe. I like this for the tender flesh and sweet turmeric sauce, but I like the Thai Sambal version for the spicy kick and crisp texture! Too many good choices at Spicy Thai-Thai, plus their casual setting is a great place to catch up with a group of friends whilst enjoying a wide range of good Thai food.

Kam's Roast in Hong Kong has been awarded a Michelin Star for 3 years running (2015, 2016 & 2017) and is now serving up its signature dishes like Roast Duck, Suckling Pig and "Toro" Char Siu. I liked both the fatty pork belly "Toro" Char Siu and the normal Char Siu which is tender with a sweet and mildly smokey glaze. The crisp Roasted Suckling Pig, Roast Pork and Wanton Noodles are items I'd order again when looking for comfort food.
