Tom Yam Pasta

$10.00 · 10 Reviews

Naturally, desserts are their forté especially the Signature Pralet Cake that had layers of creamy chocolate mousse and sponge resting on a hazelnut praline crunch bed and smeared with thick ganache - not surprising that the moderately indulgent dessert is a favourite. Customised cake designs are displayed around the cafe, and cookies, biscotti and spreads are also on retail.

It’s not purely a dessert parlour. Asian/Western/Fusion dishes form the crux of the menu, with items such as Seafood Tom Yum Pasta, ‘Hei Bi’ Aglio Olio, and featured here is my favourite amongst those we tried, the Satay Chicken Chop ($14). The char-grilled spiced chicken thigh was smothered with Indo-style satay sauce, supposedly sweeter than what we are used to. The rosti squares were certainly an ingenious substitute to fries or mash, I wouldn’t mind at all if I had a whole bowl of these crispy hash browns, with the satay sauce as a dip OHHHHHH 💡 moment here! Cucumber and pineapple that are common sides to local satay are now mixed as a salsa to alleviate the rich peanut gravy, an innovative move as well.

The mains are available at $10-$14, and drink/+cake/+soup can be added on at +$2/6/7, super decently priced. Caffe Pralet also hosts Sunday Brunch Buffets occasionally, with the next one coming up on the 27th November 11AM-3:30PM. There’s even a family package for 2 adults and 1 child at $60. The spread looks quite delectable from their Facebook photos.

Compared to the many flashy cafes in Singapore, Caffe Pralet is much underrated but it definitely has the potential to shine, a diamond in the rough. My favourite dish of the tasting was the Tom Yum Pasta ($10), which packs a punch (and kick) and in my opinion, one of the better tom yum pastas around. If you are unable to hold your hiamjio, please request for a less spicy option which the chef will gladly whip up a special order for you. Don't let the milky base fool you; the tanginess from the kaffir lime and spiciness from the tom yum base work hand-in-hand, partners in crime, to deliver a wake-up call to the unnoticed. My only improvement would be to add in more seafood such as squid and mussels to elevate and give it an even robust flavour. Overall, everything on the plate was well deserving of an applause as I went back spoon after spoon.

Some say it's a recipe for disaster while others believe in everlasting love. In fact, this dish marries well the fusion between two cultures as the hei bi that was sautéed together with the pasta creates a fine harmony.
Since young, I have avoided hei bi at all costs and distanced myself away from the spicy dried shrimp rolls especially during Chinese New Year. When I heard we were going to be served with hei bi pasta, I was kinda hesitant to try it. Fortunately, it was not as bad as I thought it would be. However, I still prefer my tom yum pasta but for people who has a liking for hei bi, this might just struck a chord with you. This new dish was launched this week as a weekly special set menu at an affordable price of $15. The set menu comes with a pasta, drink and cake-of-the-day.

[$10] Attention to all hiamjio fans out there 🔥 This particular Tom Yum Pasta from @Caffepralet is one you shouldn't mess with if you can't take spicy! *Trust me, I almost Ko-ed*
Aside from the unbearable spiciness, I loved the fact that generous portion of prawns, which were really fresh & yummy, were given! I do hope they can add in more selections of seafood, increasing the variety of ingredients as I definitely wouldn't mind paying more! ☺️
Love this Thai-Western Fusion! 👍

Overall, IMO: 3.8/5 ♠️

[Caffe Pralet] This is a classic example of an East meets West dish where hei bi (dried shrimps) meets aglio olio. Some say it's a recipe for disaster while others believe in everlasting love. [Caffe Pralet] Found a hidden gem in Caffe Pralet last weekend and it was definitely a blast meeting up with fellow foodie friends, talking to the wonderful chefs and service staff, and understanding the story behind Caffe Pralet and Creative Culinaire (a culinary school that's situated beside the cafe). Indeed a great - or should I say incredibly pleasing & stimulating warm up to my taste buds. Fiery fans chasing for 💥 elevated flavors will probably kill to conquer this dream.

Wickedly rich with tad bit of savory sweet, it is possibly one of the best dishes they have that left me yearning for more. 😊 Many thanks to #caffepralet & #nomnomsg for hosting this!
