Michelin Braised Duck stall at Ghim Moh Food Center. Really good braised duck and offals.
Arrived at 12.30 and the queue was about 18 pax ahead of me. Ordered duck meat for two and added other stuff. Total damage was $18.80 for two persons and the plate came with liver, gizzard. Tau Pok, braised egg and braise pork belly.
Rice was drenched with braise sauce and really so delicious that you can have it on its own. The duck meat, boneless, was very tender and when paired with their special chilli sauce, you canโt stop. Unlike others, their soup had no herbal taste but yet it was refreshing to drink.
Well deserving their Michelin Bib Gourmand.
Yup! We queued for an approximately 40 minutes to lay our hands on this extremely popular Hokkien braised duck at Ghim Moh.
Love โค๏ธ their gooey, sweet-salty & savoury braised sauce drenched over the deboned duck meat and served on the side to drizzle over rice. However, it was the beautifully thin layer of fats underneath the skin that made the long wait truly worth it. ๐

Long queues aside, Chuan Kee serves one of my favorite go-to braised duck rice in the west! I always go for the $6 set because of the generous portion of braised duck, braised tofu and half an egg stacked atop the yam rice - very value-for-money!
Itโs hard to pinpoint my favorite on the plate, considering everything was well-executed especially the braised duck. Every piece was succulent and scant of gamey flavor, youโd need to eat it with their tangy garlic chilli! The rice was fragrant and fluffy, and I LOVED the luscious sauce coating over it. Some places serve a sweeter variant of the braised sauce, but theirs is so packed with savory umami which elevated all the other components. Also, this is one of the few places I would eat their braised peanuts cos the softness is just right!
Chuan Kee always has one of the longest queues at Ghim Moh Food Centre. After being awarded the Michelin Bib Gourmand for itsย stellar braised duck, its queue now snakes around the building.
As I was starving, I went for the largest portion of ๐๐๐ฐ๐ธ ๐ฅ๐ถ๐ฐ๐ฒ available ($5.50). It consisted of a generous amount of braised duck, some braised tofu, braised peanuts and half a braised egg atop a bed of rice. Everything was drenched in a rich, luscious sauce.
The tender duck did not disappoint, while the tofu, peanuts and egg were par for the course. The sauce, which coated every slice of duck, piece of tofu and peanut, was what made everything mouth-wateringly magnificent. Even the rice tasted extra delicious when eaten with the sauce.
The accompanying bowl of soup was not to be outdone. Sporting a dark shade of brown, it was simultaneously sweet and savoury, while possessing the aroma of dang gui. One of the best braised duck stalls in Singapore and I'll be back for sure!

It was my first time at Ghim Moh Road Market & Food Centre, and being a Monday, many stalls were closed as well, which limited my options greatly. Fortunately, I joined the queue for Chuan Kee Boneless Braised Duck and was rewarded with a plate of braised duck rice ($4.80) that I chowed down within minutes. Letโs first talk about the rice which was nicely fragrant and fluffy, followed by the all-important braised duck that had neither the dryness texture nor the gaminess flavour. The braising sauce is like liquid gold which provided the nice umaminess and savoury touch that elevated this humble plate of duck rice into Michelin Bib Gourmand stardom. The next time I am back at Ghim Moh Road Market & Food Centre, it is tough to not join the queue and get another plate of this duck rice.
