[SOMESET, SINGAPORE] If you are looking for some good fusion dishes, @chenmapo_doufu's new concept Chen's Kitchen is really one place to consider!
I've always thought Mapo Tofu needs to be spicy for it to be delicious, little did I know that their White version 🍲 ($28.90) is equally as delicious. With just the "ma" from the peppercorns, this was very garlicky as well which makes it an ultimate rice stealer.
Speaking of which, their Fatty Egg Garlic Chahan 🍚 ($12.90) will make a good accompaniment to the dishes. It had loads of umami and flavour, all without being too savoury. The rice itself was very fluffy and soaked up the flavour of the wagyu fat well!
We also couldn't get enough of their Kurozu Kurobuta 🐷 ($22.90), due to its relatively tender, rich meat in a sweet savoury sauce. It's like sweet sour pork, but zhnged up to another level.
To pair their savoury dishes, their Chen's Ginger Ale ($6.90) and Mala Pecan Ice Cream ($4.80) are interesting choices. Both drink and dessert have mala incorporated in them and I tell you, I found them both really delicious!
Actually can't wait to bring people here to try out more dishes. If you are coming here during lunch, their lunch sets can be quite affordable and substantial, ranging between $15-20 per set. Thank you Chen's for the invite 😍
