This place used to serve great coffee. It was one of my favorite places to get a cup of cappuccino, but I noticed recently the quality dropped. This is today's cappuccino. Where the silky milk foam went? They don't have any pride for a great brewed coffee anymore.
Situated at the basement of Bugis Junction, it may look like a full-fledged takeaway coffee kiosk with its coffee roaster (yes, another place that roasts their own blends!) and coffee machine, but Awesome Coffee is more than that. In order to attract the office crowd in the area, they also serve affordable takeaway pasta boxes mix-and-match style which allows the individual to create a box of pasta suiting their own preferences. Apart from that, they also do sell desserts in their display shelves, which features Hokkaido Sponge Cake, Milk Pudding, Cake in the Jar and the occasional appearance of Mille Crepe. Despite being largely takeaway, the food quality seems value-for-money, and the cheapest combination of pasta is already enough to feed one pretty sufficiently. Definitely an affordable choice and convenient spot to grab lunch and coffee at one go.
Interestingly, despite being a kiosk stall does not stop Awesome Coffee from serving coffee made from their own blends roasted by a Roasterboy coffee roaster tucked away at the back of the stall. They were serving a blend of Brazil Jatoba and Sumatra Blue Batak beans that day, which was smoky, nutty and chocolatey. For those who are into brewing their coffee at home, Awesome Coffee also retails their roasted beans in 250g bags ready to be picked up at the cashier.
Apart from coffee and sweets, Awesome Coffee also serves takeaway pasta boxes; seemingly attracting the office crowd from the area. Pasta here is sold in mix-and-match basis, choosing the type of noodles, meat/vegetable/seafood condiments and then subsequently sauces to go with it (premium sauces cost a dollar more). Matched my Penne pasta with their thick, creamy and flavourful cream sauce; a safe bet, and chose meatballs for my choice of meat. A tip for everyone; go for the tomato-based sauces if you are ordering meatballs; they are marinated with a tangy and slight spicy flavour so it matches the tomato-based sauce better than cream sauces.
