According to me. ✌🏼 Something about the way it tastes just can't be replicated in any other food. Almost like a savoury dessert which secret can only be understood by other Singaporeans alike. 😋😋

Came here because of the Burpple 1-for-1 promotion only available for the Kampung flavour. Coconut + Gula Melaka + Pandan. Gula Melaka taste came through very strongly while the coconut added a subtle complexity. Pandan was kind of lost, since it's more fragrance than taste, and doesn't work well in ice cream due to the cold temperature of the ice cream. But overall strong flavoured ice cream. Though ice cream is slightly on the icy side instead of creamy.

It's been a long time since I've had Chicken Rice Balls but they've always been a classic gem in my mind. Sought after because of how rare it is nowadays. I must admit I perhaps don't know how to appreciate this. The rice is fragrant and delicious, but because it's packed together like this, it becomes almost like glutinous chicken rice, and I think I prefer the texture of regular rice over this. The chicken is good as well but I'm a lazy Singaporean and I appreciate boneless chicken more 😅. The soup is really good if you like chicken feet and peanut soup. And it must be noted that you'll rarely find a chicken rice store serving chicken feet soup. This whole tray which is enough for two cost $12.

When you're too lazy to make your own tempura and too cheapo to go to a tendon restaurant... You go to a tempura stall in a food court! Pleasantly surprised at how delicious this was. Tempura was hit and miss but overall not bad considering that this is a food court. Anyway you can't really go too wrong with fried food! 😉 You can choose your tempura like Yong Tau Foo style, but it's all pre-fried, and then you choose a base dish (rice, udon, soba etc). Prices range from just around $5-$10+ depending on what base dish you get (rice at $1 vs curry soba at $6.50) and how much tempura you get. Some tempura is more worth it than others, some you know are straight from NTUC's freezer section. But if you're here eating tempura, that means you're too lazy to make it yourself, so you're just paying for the convenience of having people cook it for you.

Have actually wanted to try Monster Curry for the longest time! Ordered a katsu set and a fish set for the lunch special, which came with a bowl of mushroom soup, a glass of iced lemon tea, and a really tiny scoop of vanilla ice cream topped with whipped cream.

The curry was actually very delicious, very sweet, though a bit too salty. But well balanced with the rice. The curry itself actually isn't spicy and the spiciness comes from the chilli sauce drawn in hearts on the curry. The chilli actually tasted somewhat like chicken rice chilli to me hmm. The pork and fish were also very substantial and juicy not like flimsy food court versions.

Serving is super big though. Enough for two meals. But well worth the price. The lunch special price came up to $16.25 after GST and service charge.

One of the best meals in my life and I can't believe I had it on a university campus. Salmon belly was beautifully fresh and soft, Wagyu beef slices as well were tender and seasoned deliciously. The Mentaiko mayo (in both) smoothes the textures of the toppings and the rice, and also adds a subtle complexity to the dish. And it was really good rice as well. Main courses here are all around $20 and you can top up $3 for a set (drink and chawanmushi). The people this place definitely love their food and I will definitely be back for more!

Sweet French Toast for $15. Can top up $1 for vanilla ice cream. It's a decent French toast, not anything I would make the trip specially for but wouldn't mind if I was in the area. I feel it's a bit expensive for what it's worth though. But maybe it's due to the target clientele being those living nearby in the landed property. Also tried the fish and chips ($17 I think) which can be topped up for truffle fries. It's a solid, standard fish and chips. But nothing special that would bring me back if I wasn't in the area. Ambience is nice and quaint and you can dine outside without melting from the heat. Service is rather laid-back though.

I love the chendol from Malaysia Boleh. It's only $2 for a small bowl, but it's just the right portion. Green worm jellies are not powdery or frozen, and kidney beans are firm and soft without being mushy. And it's a small enough portion such that the ice doesn't melt so fast that you end up drinking cold coconut milk.

The cafe was initially a bit hard to find (it's co-located with Stateland). Service is pretty brusque, personally. We got the Salted Egg Mocha Bursts ($15). There is a choice of two flavours this month, cookie butter and Tokyo banana, we went with cookie butter. I was pleasantly surprised how soft and creamy the soft serve was. I also really liked the lotus biscuit taste in the cookie butter which was not too overpowering. The salted egg mochi balls were average I think. The mochi balls are fun to eat and the salted egg custard flowing out when cut open is always very satisfying. But it was more custard than salted egg and I was kind of expecting a stronger salted egg flavour. Although I thought the flavours would clash, the sweetness of the salted egg custard made it work. Really enjoyed this dessert anyway and definitely will come back to try more!
