An Izakaya You’ll Want to Gatekeep (But Won’t) Had such a great dinner at Shukuu Izakaya! The Maguro Yukke was super addictive, the Rosti Mentai was so fun to slurp like noodles, and the Ika Kuro-age was unbelievably tender. Even the Tori Cabbage Tsuyu won me over (and I don’t even like vegetables usually). Will 100% be back!

Amazing vibes to chase your monday blues away Had such a satisfying meal at Shukuu Izakaya and Bar! The hotate was incredibly fresh, and the combo of mentaiko + fish roe gave it a rich and savoury flavour. The hot soba was warm and comforting, while the spicy salmon don had just the right kick without being overwhelming (great even if you can’t take much spice!). Great quality for the price, lovely ambience, and attentive staff. Don’t skip their sake pairing too! It really elevates the meal.

Dinner @ Shukuu shukuu has a nice ambience, be it for a date night or gathering with friends. personally enjoyed the scallop mentai and chirashi inari the most, it was flavourful and fresh. the hot soba was light on the palette and comforting to have. staffs were nice and attentive too, helped to adjust the aircon temperature.

Spicy Tan Tan Tonkotsu Udon The Spicy Tan Tan Tonkotsu Udon ($12.90) features a rich and savory Tonkotsu broth with spicy sesame paste, minced meat, egg, kelp and udon noodles, drizzled in garlic oil. This is packed with so much flavour and absolutely delicious. Slurped all of this right down to the final drop!

Great service & food Had the Pork Udon with egg and rice with assorted tempura (Kakiage & Snow cream croquette). I like that they provide a few free condiments such as tempura bits & seaweed which you can add to your udon or rice like me to further enhance the meal. Being in a town area, the food here is affordable which explain the queue outside.

Black Garlic Tonkotsu Udon ($12.80) previously I didn't able to try it out but in ramen version. But it's much better than previous trip that I have tried it out. But I felt that their udon was quite hard and not that chewy texture in the past that they used have.

Glean 2/2 - Smoked Pork Carbonara The 𝗦𝗺𝗼𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝗣𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗿𝗮 ($18) came with a runny egg that provided the requisite egg porn. The savoury bacon and al dente spaghetti, tossed in the creamy sauce and mixed with the egg, was exquisite. Finally the coffees we ordered (𝗞𝗼𝗽𝗶 $1.80, 𝗜𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗞𝗼𝗽𝗶 𝗖 $3.40) were abhorrent. Any random 2-in-1 would taste infinitely better. But go for the pastas, they’re definitely worth a try.

Glean 1/2 - Mala Chilli Crab Pasta Popped by Glean Cafe because I saw they have 1-for-1 pastas on Burpple Beyond. Although the decor looks pretty, with lots of hanging lights and greenery, I doubt I’d be returning due to the paucity of options on the menu. With only two pastas and three Asian-style dishes on the menu, we took literally one second to decide what to order. Tbh both pastas were well executed and we had no complaints. The 𝗠𝗮𝗹𝗮 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶 𝗖𝗿𝗮𝗯 𝗣𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗮 ($20), with angel hair pasta smothered in a reddish sauce, looked unappetising. But the crab meat was fresh and sweet, while the spicy, numbing sauce was fabulously fragrant.

Mono izakaya Lil's taproom popup 26-27 April 2024 Espresso ribs 24+svc for 180g Tender, with a proper espresso glaze. It's slightly bitter, quite sweet, and full of wicked espresso aroma.

Bulgogi duck rice 22++ PSA it really is exactly where they say it is. On top of Prata restaurant is a corner shop, and this is directly beside it. The exterior is like any other shop so look carefully. Unit number 02-208? I think Absolutely delicious as well. Not very bulgogi tbh but doesn't rlly matter. It's got a slightly crisp, skin that was a bit hard as well, but not unpleasantly. The meat was tender and thickly sliced, and most importantly it's super flavourful from aging. Absolutely awe-inspiring stuff and a must try

Big slab bossam don 18++(used BB) PSA During lunch there's only lunch bowls, no ala cart This was delicious. Kimchi was solid, but the pork belly. Wow. It's tender with just a little bite, super fatty but not greasy. Chef chose to slow roast it so it's not just super soft, and the espresso miso glaze, despite the fancy name, made for a simple and effective sweet savoury glaze. Chef has been trained in both Jap and French cuisine, as well as stints at Michelin establishments. A lot of young chefs come out from Michelin places to set up their own restaurants lately but I feel like many don't live up to the hype. But this chef, from his food it's clear he knows what he's doing. Really excited for this place, except the location is too hidden lol

Fig cream cheese Sourdough Ciabatta 6nett Portion is pretty big, feeds 2 if that's all youre having. The figs are well roasted, but that's really all. Theres cubes of cream cheese but they taste like white cheese more, and the two flavours dont go tgt, and the overall taste is very mild, nowhere near sweet enough. Bread has way too much bite as always I struggle to understand why these cafe-hopping girls love this

Worth every bite! [BEAUTY WORLD, SINGAPORE] Having tried @tsukijikaisendon, I had to try @zushishou knowing that they are from the same owners. Undoubtedly, their sashimi quality is similar though I find myself liking the seasoned sushi rice from Tsukiji more. Their Kaisen Don 🐟 ($20.90) is really a sight to behold. Incredibly thick sashimi slices of hamachi, salmon and scallops is really the dream of every sashimi lover. Their hamachi is probably my favourite, due to its sweet, clean and fatty flavour. I don't think I need to say much given the visuals of the bowl 🤣 really worth it considering how much sashimi you're getting! If you like variety, their Irodori Chirashi Don 🐟 ($19.90) might be your go-to. The sashimi here is chunky, and you get tuna, mackerel and a tiny bit of uni in addition to the ones mentioned above. The uni is my favourite, as it was like a shot of seafood flavour that was intense but clean. Somehow the rice here seems under seasoned as compared to that of Tsukiji, but still good! My only other gripe is that their using some kind of wasabi paste, not the freshly grated one but I guess it's difficult to achieve that given the affordable price point. Definitely coming back for more!

Bara chirashi No frills japanese food place. Will come back again to try their ramen

Sumo Yakiniku Chashu Ramen This place is popular. But I don't eat chirashi don so settled on their ramen. It's not on the level of ramen restaurants but it's competitive. It helps that it has chashu and shabu but not overly pricey.

Creme Brulee Bomboloni ($8++) Creme Brulee with a twist . Vanilla custard donuts topped with a layer of hardened caramelised sugar .

Grilled Cheese Patty Melt ($26) A really good cheeseburger - but in a sandwich! Why have burger buns when you can have grilled cheese sourdough? The Blackmore wagyu patty was juicy, very tasty with the pastrami jam, garlic aioli and cucumber pickles. Very classic cheeseburger ingredients and executed well in this sandwich. Overall a good sandwich, slightly pricey but it was delicious so I’ll take that. Visited on a public holiday and at 11am, their tater tots were already out of stock! This eliminated many of their breakfast options, sadly. Would return again earlier to try their other options.

Pastrami Reuben ($26) So glad my friend and I shared the sandwiches at this place, because they are really generous with the meat! The smoked pastrami brisket was just overflowing in between the slices of caraway rye sourdough toast, it wasn’t too salty on its own but the sheer amount of it in the sandwich made it quite so, along with the provolone cheese. Fortunately there was sauerkraut and Russian dressing to cut through the salty and savoury notes. Overall a very tasty sandwich, would recommend to share otherwise the pastrami brisket can get quite overwhelming. Quality food with a nice poolside view! If you would like some quality Japanese fare, this is one place to go. Although it may be located in a very unknown area, this place has a poolside view for you to enjoy with your food! I had a Chirashi Don ($19.80) while my friends had the Truffle Wagyu Don with Foie Gras ($35.80) and we got the premium sides (for additional $8) that has miso soup, chaiwanmushi, salmon sashimi and mochi. The Chirashi Don itself boast quite a few ingredients from scallops to chutoro. Every piece of sashimi is really fresh and they were perfect with the freshly grated wasabi and soy sauce. To me I feel like the quality of the rice really makes or breaks a don, and I'm glad to say that the rice in this don is really something. It's not only fluffy, it's very well flavoured with the right amount of mirin. Absolutely beautiful. I tried abit of the truffle wagyu don and I loved how crispy and smoky the beef slices were! The beef slices were tender as well and the truffle taste is noticeable. The foie gras pieces were very rich and fatty, perfect with the bed of rice below. Definitely a good place to come for date nights 😍

Spicy Salmon Don Lovely hidden restaurant with amazingly well priced dishes. The salmon don was so tasty and had great cuts of fish!! The set it came in also included soup and karaage chicken which was also very good.

Chausson aux Pommes Some people might familiar with this name, as Nicher used to sell their artisan pastries at Tiong Bahru. Opened by ex-MBS chef, he now continue baking at this location; which could be very far from town area. In this outlet, he now focused much on French bakes instead. Chausson aux Pommes is actually the Apple Turnovers, which is filled with apple sauce in it. Something mix between sweet and sour, with soft texture of skin. You also get enjoy your Burpple Beyond here with one for one bakes.

Overall good experience. Value for money, not bad but sausage and bacon were a little salty. $33 for 2 breakfast sets + 2 coffees.

Gashouse Eggs | $13 Finally had the chance to hit up One Man Coffee after being greeted by long snaking queues during their brunch time. Got lucky and managed to snag a seat for breakfast. Opted for the gashouse eggs as I was not feeling hungry enough for the bigger plates. Absolutely loved how they made it, cheesy on the top yet oozy sunny side up egg in the middle. I’m personally not a fan of sourdough bread that’s too tough, but this crusty rendition had a great chewy texture to it. Rate:🌟🌟🌟
