Sometimes you gotta have an obligatory cross section shot - especially when you're about to tuck into @tigerlilypatisserie 's Pistachio Marimo.
Consisting of housemade pistachio praline, pistachio frangipane and pistachio whipped ganache, damn this was so good I could just huff another down in a second.
Super grateful to @royalplazaonscotts for not just sending over their Powered by Keto bento set, but their gorgeous Berries Tart to boot!
Filled with diplomat cream and an array of mixed fruits such as strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, cranberries, lychees and interestingly enough baby yellow tomatoes! It was quite the combination of mixed berries on top luscious cream and a buttery tart base. Dang, my heart definitely broke knowing I had to cut into this stunning piece sooner or later!
Do check out bit.ly/CarouselDelivers to order not only this amazing tart but their variety of meal bento sets to share!
It was almost a month long wait before I managed to get my hands on these babies from none other than @burntends.bakery.sg ! I just knew I had to order two boxes even though I had not even tried them - especially considering the limited open slots that stretched to a month later!
The flavours of the assorted doughnuts box are:
â—¾Vanilla Cream
â—¾Nutella
â—¾Pandan
â—¾Milo Dinosaur (Aug/Sept Special)
â—¾Lemon Meringue
Now these were just so good, it was hard to stop at just one. Soft, fluffy and filled to the T with delectable cream and fillings - dang I'm already thinking of getting more. While their flavours aren't the whacky craziness as compared to other bombolini stores - they're still really good.
My favourite has to be Pandan - topped coconut glaze, desiccated coconut and filled with a kaya-like pandan cream. Oh lawd. Their Lemon Meringue came a close second which is a no-brainer as it's one of my all-time favourite flavours. Vanilla Cream was super delish as well and came in third!
They have since announced that they're moving to a bigger location and I'm definitely looking forward to see what else Burnt Ends Bakery will have in store!
Now if only I could get a reservation for the coveted restaurant that is @burntends.sg itself!
I've always loved Japanese food and that includes the crispy savoury deliciousness of tempura. The last time I've had proper tempura was at Tendon Kohaku and having constantly walked by Ginza Tendon Itsuki by the famed Keisuke brand, I was definitely down for more Tendon.
Going for their Special Mix option, Ginza's Tendon bowl was filled to the brim with tempura prawns, succulent chicken breasts, a mix of vegetables including a piece of shiitake and to top it all of - an onsen egg. What more can I say, this was a hella good bowl of Tendon. Not to mention the dainty complimentary chawanmushi appetizer it came with.
Definitely a good bang for your buck and Keisuke surely impresses again.
The sister company to ice-cream shoppe @denzygelato, @shiopatisserie focuses on freshly baked tarts that makes use of only premium ingredients. Yes, premium y'all.
These impeccable tarts are literally baked and assembled a few hours prior to collection to ensure its optimum freshness.
Included in the box are:
◾Cheese Brûlée
Lemon sponge, cream cheese, mascarpone, brûléed sugar - One of my top favourites of the bunch, the cheese brûlée packed quite a punch with it's two cheeses and it's mix of slightly savoury with delectably sweet and sour.
â—¾Earl Grey Pecan
Almond sponge, pecan butter, earl grey cream - The smooth pecan butter worked wonders with the earl grey cream. The flavour combination was perfect in every way.
â—¾Lime Basil
Lime sponge, lime basil curd, white chocolate cream - The flavours of their lime basil tart was quite subtle, with an overpowering hint of basil. It actually reminded me of Sourbombe's Rhubarb Basil bombe to be honest.
â—¾Mont Blanc
Rum sponge, cassis coulis, chestnut rum mousse, chestnut cream - This was my favourite out of all of the tarts. Dang thar cassis coulis we sublime and the inclusion of rum brought it to a whole nother level. (I don't really drink but put alcohol in desserts and I'm like hell yeah.)
I'm glad to have come across Shio Patisserie's delicate tarts and I do hope to see more flavours from them! Perhaps even a collab with their sister company Denzy? Ice-cream + tarts = Profit.
Nothing like a midweek pick me up that is @tipsyflamingosg's Ebi Katsu Sando! Touted as one of their signature dishes, it encompass both the Asian fusion and Miami Beach Club vibes of their locale.
The sando is filled with spicy mentaiko, with breaded king prawn patties, cabbage and tobiko all sandwiched between toasted brioche. Savoury and filled with unami, thankfully it wasn't that spicy! (Cos spicy food ain't for me man.)
I do think their Lobster Roll have a leg up on their Katsu Sando but it's still pretty good nonetheless! And if I didn't say it before, I'll say it again - the aesthetics of Tipsy Flamingo are to die for.
Another main from the all-white Botanical theme cafe that is @glacier.sg is their Seafood Vongole Pasta!
While their mains are quite the usual fanfare and there isn't too much innovativeness to them but hey, they're still pretty hearty and delish in my book. The Vongole Pasta over at Glacier is packed with ingredients - with pan-seared scallops, clams, crabmeat, chilli flakes in white wine. I've never seen that many clams in a vongole dish before! Another thing that impressed me was their presentation, each clam lovingly displayed all around the centerpiece of linguine - that's some dedication right there and I applaud them for it.
Price-wise is a lil' steep but with that amount of ingredients and the pretty presentation - you get what you pay for!
The all-white clean botanical theme cafe that is @glacier.sg offers up a small selection of savoury dishes which includes this Smoked Salmon & Avocado Toast. (Which seems to be everyone's go-to over at Glacier.)
Semi-torched smoked salmon, mash guacamole, poached eggs, baby radish, microgreens, capers and topped off with a gorgeous yellow hue of hollandaise - well it might be a fairly simple brunch dish but it's oh so good. Smoked salmon? Yes. Guac? Yes. Toasted brioche? Oh yes.
The irony is that I had this clearly brunch dish for dinner as I made my visit to Glacier in the evening. Brunch for dinner? Hell yes.
Lemuel Chocolate has reopened its doors to a spanking new space over at Star Vista! The bean-to-bar chocolate makers place an emphasis on quality, flavour and sustainability - roasting and churning out delectable chocolate treats right in front of your eyes to boot! @lemuelchocolate even sources and imports their quality cacao beans from farmers all over the world.
I was honoured to be invited to their soft launch/food tasting and got to try their numerous chocolate goodies which included:
â—¾Eden [$10]
Lemuel's entremets range is inspired by the botanics and Eden caught my eye immediately. Resembling a pebble, it was filled with pear curd, pecan, milk chocolate praline and 70% Guatemala chocolate mousse. The smooth creamy texture paired perfectly with a slight crunch from the praline. The sweetness from the pear curd also balanced out the chocolate mousse in an explosion of flavour. This ended up being one of my favourites of the day!
â—¾Jardin [$9]
Resembling a mushroom garden is none other than their Jardin. A tart comprising of pistachio ganache, pistachio praline, crumble, pistachio creme and dark chocolate - dang the pistachio flavours were intense. The Jardin bordered more towards savoury which I found pretty intriguing. A lil' sweetness from the creme on top was much needed to cut the intensity of the whole tart - I've never had something quite like it!
â—¾Lady Grey/Sel/Hideki [$4 each]
Lemuel also offers a range of smaller chocolate tarts, each with its own unique flavours paired with delicious ganache. My favourite of the 3 was the Hideki, a tart filled with Hojicha ganache and Yuzu chantilly. Damn, it was just so good. Yuzu + chocolate = hell yeah.
All in all, I'm quite impressed by the effort and work of Lemuel Chocolate and their passion for their craft. They do chocolate justice and I'll definitely head back for more! (Everyone else ordered the Cacao 85 and I kinda regretted not doing the same!) Not to mention that I literally ended up in a chocolate coma right after.
I wish you guys all the best in your grand opening! And thanks to Natasha for the invite and to Ronald for the awesome chocolate tour!
Y'all didn't think I would have gone to @eggslutsg and NOT get THE Slut eh. Everybody was doing it so I just had to as well.
Filled with coddled egg on top of homemade potato puree, with a sprinkle of gray salt and chives - this was simply delicious. A surprising fact considering the ingredients are pretty simplistic but the combination was just *chef kiss*.
Now for 11 bucks, that's a little bit of a stretch though. Just a couple more bucks and you could get the Fairfax sandwich. The least they could do was to perhaps give a couple more slices of baguette. And the jar is a keepable souvenir I take it? *Karen Mode On*
Helmed by the same people of The Dark Gallery; which is known for everything dark chocolate - @amusedessertco is a new dessert concept that's quite the opposite from it's dark counterpart.
Having seen their tantalizing range of pastries, bakes, parfaits and more - I was definitely intrigued and was excited to try almost everything. Unfortunately, as I was full from a hearty lunch, my colleagues and I settled for some ice-cream instead.
After scanning their variety of flavours which included unique ones such as Injeolmi Bingsu, I decided to go with their Banoffee Pecan Pie. Imagining the wonderful combination of banana and caramel - I figured you couldn't go wrong with Banoffee. Boy was I wrong and sorely disappointed to find it tasted nothing like banana and nothing like caramel. It seemed to be more pecan flavoured and lacked the Banoffee aspect - almost bordering on bland.
I was definitely not amused to be frank. A couple of colleagues also found some other flavours to be disappointing - perhaps their non chocolate ice-cream isn't their strong suit. And at 5.50 a pop, I would have gone to Apiary instead.
Alas, I'm still hoping to give Amuse another try, they clearly have much more to offer and the upside is their cafe is highly Instagrammable. I've even been eyeing their parfait - but at a whopping 24 bucks for just two sad scoops of ice-cream and some toppings - it's making me rethink my life choices and whether it's really worth it #ForTheGram.
I've actually been itching to try the gorgeous bakes from @mrholmesbakehousesg ever since they opened their doors here - but the crazy hype and long ass queues was killing my buzz and I did not want to experience the anguish of being told something was sold out. *Stares at Sourbombe*
Seeing as the craze and hype have migrated over to Eggslut, I figured this was finally my chance to try Mr Holmes! Here's what I got:
Cruffins:
â—¾Blueberry Hotcake [$6]
â—¾Pistachio Cream [$6.5]
Mr Holmes is famously known for their cruffins, which is a croissant muffin hybrid - though pretty much just in shape. Loving a high cream to pastry ratio, these were just amazing. The Blueberry Hotcake variation actually tasted like hotcakes from the maple cream. The Pistachio cruffin was simply delish as well and it's definitely became one of my favourites.
Croissants:
â—¾Lemon Meringue [$7.5]
â—¾Yellowpink [$7.5]
â—¾Raspberry Hibiscus [$7.5]
Apart from their cruffins, Mr Holmes has a wide array of deliciously filled croissants as well. The eye-catching Yellowpink is a Singapore exclusive, filled with mango curd and is crazy sweet and crazy good. It also gave me the most stress in regards to keeping it intact for shoots - that darn pink chocolate topping breaks so friggin' easily that it made my head spin.
Their Lemon Meringue also won my heart over - with an intense tang of lemon curd that I simply adored. The Raspberry Hibiscus was their latest flavour for the month and compared to the other two croissants I had - it sadly didn't make any lasting impression on me. The flavour was floral but lacking quite a bit in raspberries.
Donuts:
â—¾White Choc Macadamia [$5.8]
â—¾Blood Orange Creamsicle [$5.8]
I'm surprised I have not gotten sick of filled doughnuts yet. Mr Holmes also offers a couple of bioche filled bombos that are pretty good in their own way. The Blood Orange Creamsicle was unique and refreshing. White Choc on the other hand was kinda meh - when you compare it to everything else, sadly it can't compare.
Well, I'm simply blown away by the bakes by Mr Holmes and can't fathom why I didn't try them earlier! I'll definitely head back to try more!
