When you ask me about the best burger I have to suggest Greenwood Fish Market & Bistro but if dont want to travel that far like me I found one more place at Outram Park which serves amazing juicy burgers. With quirky decor Potato head serves really great burgers and side dishes and they really do it well.
I had the Smokin’ B-Boy a made with 150g black angus beef, smoked applewoord cheddar, Dingley dell beer and treacle streaky bacn, bbq ketchup, smokey mayo, bawang goreng and all of this inside well toasted brioche bun. Do I need to say more. Well it taste freakimg delicious. The meat was tender and juicy and the bacon was crispy ad added texture to the dish. Everything else just tied the dish together.
Pro Tip: They have a lunch menu where you can get one their best selling burgers, with one side dish and one drink for $24++
The side dish we ordered at Potato Head was their truffle fries. The fries were crispy outaide and soft inside. There was enough sour cream and truffle flavor in the fries. It went well with our burgers. It also came with spicy mayo with added flavor to the dish.
You cant go wrong with park bench deli and their amazing sandwiches. I ordered my favorite grilled cheese sandwich and it taste absolutely heavenly. The cheese oozes out as you bite into it. The sandwich itself taste great with few different cheese inside. The tangy sharp tomato soup helps to cut the richness of the cheese and makes you eat more.
Pro Tip: You can always tag along someone ans order different sandwiches and they are big enough to be shared.
One of the best espresso shots I had in Singapore. Honestly it doesnt even taste like coffee. The strong aroma of the coffee will pull you in and once you drink it, the taste has slight acidity and taste of berries. Its a great coffee experience.
The glutinous rice balls made in this small store at Golden Mile Food Center is really great. It comes with 5 flavors but my favorites are peanut and sesame. The actual rice balls are silky and soft with right amount of stuffing inside and cooked to perfection. The soup which I got this time is the almond soup which was not as great as the balls itself. I feel the soup needs more almond flavor and need to be more thicker. Overall a good dish after a nice meal.
Though being a small corner joint, for me ABC Restaurant on cavan road serves one of the best parota and chicken curry in Lavendar area. The parota is freshly made to order and its crisp and cruncy on the outside with the middle being soft and nicely cooked. I love the fact that they use less oil to cook their dishes so I can eat as many as I want. Their parotas goes well with chicken or mutton (lamb) curry or with their dalcha. I order mine with curry chicken with a side of egg masala.
Pro Tip: The place is open almost 24 hours so mid night cravings for people living in and around Lavendar can enjoy their food and amazing ginger tea.
There is nothing much to describe how good and healthy subway can be. My all time favorite is the chicken ham sub with extra cheese. Awesome comfort food.
Pro Tip: Subway is having a promotion for extra meat for just $2.50.
For a light flavor punching fish soup head down to the fish soup store at Tai Sun Eating House. It is not hard to find this small shop amidst other stores as this one has the longest queue.
Ordered the small fish soup and I have to say it was really shiok. The broth was light and full of flavor and the fish was not smelly and cooked perfectly.
Pro Tip: Add their deep fried fish eggs for an amazing crunch and full of flavor for just 50c extra.
One of my favorite Hokkien mee place head to Golden Mile basement where a store exists owned by an old couple. Even before the food the experience is to see the uncle actually making the dry Hokkien mee. If you are hungry be ready to wait a while for the dish to arrive.
The dish is one of the best Hokkien mee I had till day. There are different kind of Hokkien mee found in Singapore and this one is the dry kind. The noodles are cooked in the wok till the point of caramelization and then the seafood is cooked perfectly in the stock which is added at the end just before serving. And you cant miss out their chilli..which ties the dish together with the noodles, eggs and the seafood.
Pro Tip: They have a few dish size but if you a normal eater then you can definitely finish the $5 one. $4 is too small in my opinion
When we talk about porridge we think the bland old dish that we eat for warmth and when we are not feeling well. Well thats not the case for this porridge found at Veerasamy Road which to my surprise it not boring at all.
I had the porridge with pork and egg and I have to say the taste and texture was amazing. The porridge was hot and taste absolutely heavenly with pork and egg to make it into congee. Match made in heaven. And the textures from the fried bread, meat, chopped spring onions, tangchye and fragrant fried shallots was just right. My recommended place to go visit.
Pro Tip: You can add amazing fried chicken from the store next door at the same food center with your porridge to make it a sinful combo.
A venue on top of Pico Creative Center is 5 Little Monkeys, a nice simple cafe with great food. This time ordered the french toast and I must admit the platting could have been better. But the taste was really good.
The toast itself was warm and fluffy without the taste of eggs. There was enough sugar on top to add sweetness to the toast but you can always add their maple syrup like me on the top to have that extra sugar kick. Overall, a very nice pleasant cafe dish to go with black coffee.
Pro Tip: They have 5% discount for people who works in the building so go up and enjoy your meal.
Hot pork soup is one of the most comforting things to get on a cold rainy day and Founder’s Bak Kut Teh is on top of my list.
Their soup is the pepper clear soup and not the herbal kind with good portions of meat in the soup. The meat is tender and juicy with the soup being hot and peppery. Just the thing you need on a cold rainy day. The side dishes of eggs and veggies are also really good.
Pro Tip: Founder’s have a lunch time set menu for $8.90 (Short Ribs with one side and rice) and $11.90 ( Premium Ribs with one side and rice). Both comes with unlimited soup, just ask.
