Work at raffles place for years, however I've never been up here before. For sky bars, CBD definitely got way more choices. Besides I've always got the feeling that only disappointing cocktails are served at sky bars. But, at southbridge, u can enjoy the oysters! They have oysters for happy hour every weekday between 6-8pm. Bar food varieties doesn't include your typical choices. For example they don't have chicken wing or truffle fries, while they do serve decent beef sliders and tortilla chips.
Fried rice and chicken leg, which is their signature. The portion is generous and it comes with inhouse chilli souce on the side, which brings the dish to next level. The skin of the chicken is thin and crispy which is to my liking, however the chicken is not as flavourful as the fried rice. I need to dip into the chilli source.
They charge additional 0.5 sgd for chicken leg. So better choice is to go with a group so that can share a whole or half chicken. The way they cook the chicken successfully locks the juice inside. My friend said even the chicken breast is tender and juicy. I'll come back for Char Siew next time.
I have to admit I simply cannot move when passyby this bakery because of the lovely colorful buns! Both dough and fillings are made in house. These little creations have a good range of varieties: pumpkin bao, Matcha bao, black seasom bao etc. For the above photo, the front one was plain Mantou. The one at the behind is greentea bao with purple sweet potato fillings!
Definitely the wet version of fried kway teow, which is a variation of sinful comfort food. It has shrimp, chinese sausage, beansprouts and cockles! The kway teow are smooth and thoroughly coated with special black sauce and eggs.
The pancake is not your average soggy pancake! It's crispy on the outside. Match taste is strong but not yet bitter. Red bean fillings is a bit on the sweet side but good balance with the green tea flavour. Their menu is gorgeous with quite a number of lovely desserts. I'll come back for more. 😋
It makes me feel nostalgic because I haven't had Ma La Tang since graduated from high school back in China. We were so used to have Ma La Tang after night classes in the small lousy places just opposite the campus. Gong Yuan Ma La Tang provides 5 different soup bases and you can choose the level of spiciness. I chose mala with less spicy but it's already mild with quite strong Ma taste because they used the various spices for the soup base. Strongly recommended and I'll definitely come back to try their dumplings😋
Cream cheese frosting, chunks of pineapple, banana & cinnamon.
I don't know why the cafe is so popular. When we reached 3pm on Sunday, there were still people queuing..... Maybe for early dinner? When we finally sat in, we were told that the kitchen is about to close for brunch menu (until 3pm) while starters is still available. That's a good news for us because it may indicate the noisy cafe can be a little bit quiet since "brunch ppl" will head to somewhere else?
The cake is out of my expectation. U can taste the whole chunk of pineapple and banana. The cream cheese balance well the strong cinnamon flavour. I'll definitely go back to try other cakes.
The portion is crazy.......which is generous enough to feed two person! You can choose the combo (with pasta) or ormurice stand alone. For the source, there are 4 options: chilli tomato sources, creamy white sauce, wafu sause and demiglace sause. Demuglace sause is the default selection for omurice, which is what I chose. My friend chose chilli tomato, which is just nice level of spiciness. The omelette is cooked perfectly, which is rich and creamy.
The slow cooked beef stew is a mixture of tendon and beef meat, thus the texture is not tough at all, it's juicy and meltingly tender. The Spinach Noodle is made inhouse, which doesn't have strong vege taste and easier to accommodate different people's palate. The original dish doesn't come with wanton but I'm so greedy to try out. U can add either fried wanton or wanton soup. I will go back to try their tomato noodle soon!
Greek yogurt always give me the unexpected sourness to kill my apetite but this greek yogurt based smootie never fail to impress me! A good balance of sour and sweet from fruits. The purple one at the back is mixberry smootie!
If u like inner parts, lunch dishes here is to die for! They try best to keep the original flavour of the mutton soup, which is rich and thick, but no extra flavourful ingredients. They have wide range of various choices of lunch dishes. They are also famous for mutton soup based hotpot for dinner menu!
