Love at first wobble, The Masses’ more premium rendition of the classic Japanese steamed savoury egg dish was so addictive I could inhale one all by myself. An exceptional starter and performing nicely as a side, The Egg ($9) is available in both hot and cold versions. And as such, we went with the recommended hot option. With the spoon effortlessly gliding through, egg custard itself was umami, velvety and smooth (an amped up chawanmushi, really).
.
However, the highlight was certainly the combination of the elements so get a little bit of everything in each scoop and you can get a party started in your mouth. The ikura releasing spurts of briny goodness and tobiko a similar grainy burst of salty flavour while the uncommonly thin chips provides a somewhat delicate sweet-savoury crunch which would then slowly melt in your mouth when paired with the custard. Also in the mix is the light nuttiness from the layer of beurre noisette to enhance the taste!

There is no photoshop of filters used here. The cured salmon are crimson red or blood orange in colour. The curing is done to perfection (in-house, most certainly) preserving the tenderness of the fish and yet doesn't get overwhelmingly saltish when compared to smoked salmon. Goes very well with the chilled soba in soy dressing and sprinkled on with sesame. Perhaps a little more dressing and some greens might give more dimension to the freshness of this dish!

Special promotion for Thumb Coffee: $2 for regular sized Americano PLUS free dessert!!! We paired it with ice cream, which proved to be a smart choice. Just dump the ice cream into the americano and there you have a huge cup of coffee with 'milk'!

"Borderless Cuisine" is the term used by Beast & Butterflies to describe their style of food, and this newly-launched Crab Noodles is a fine example of it.
The Chinese element is found in the deepfried wanton mee which forms the carb base. Japan is represented in a rather contemporary way by a very rich kani (crab) miso cream sauce, Shimeiji mushrooms, ikura and nori (seaweed). From the cold ocean, there's the Alaskan crab meat, peeled into easy-to-eat chunks of sweetness. Together, they form a dish of decadence that transcends geography but will have you on cloud nine if you love crab and a taste of creamy richness in your food.

Bringing in a vibrant selection of cafe fare at pocket friendly prices into the Woodlands’ neighbourhood, Citrus By The Pool has launched a newly-revamped menu starting today. With the aim to inject and introduce bolder flavours to the Halal-certified café restaurant and they have certainly done so with more than 10 new dishes and drinks.

And easily a crowd-pleaser, the Fried Chicken and Waffle ($10.90) was the unanimous favourite at our table as even with our exploding bellies we were able to finish this yummy number. Imagine succulent deep-fried chicken chunks on fluffy waffles that remind you of Big M’s hotcakes served with butter and maple syrup. Made sweeter intentionally, the waffle was surprisingly light and just went hand-in-hand with the crispy savoury seasoned chicken. Having it in chunks instead of a whole hunk of a chicken also made cutting effortless. A foolproof combination where the salty, and the sweet all blend together seamlessly.

Thank you Ericia for the invitation and warm hospitality, and Citrus By The Pool for feeding us!

Beard Papa has done it once again with this Green Tea Pie Cream Puff that is so damn good. At $3 a pop, this is incredibly well made. It's not just the buttery crust, but the bittersweet matcha custard inside that keep you coming back for more. Dreaming of having it again 🤤

Bugis: Long-time famous fish soup restaurant! Perfect when you have no appetite or cravings. Not a fan, just a place for a quick bowl of fish soup. But if you have not tried it before, it's worth trying at least once 😊 I do not recommend the other dishes.

Pros: Closes pretty late. Tasty fish soup! Convenient location. Serves up variety of tze char dishes and fish steamboat.
🐟
Cons: Long q's. Not the best fish soup around. Fried fish was soaked too long prior to serving. Dishes hit & miss, mostly not nice.

Price: S$13.10 - fried fish bee hoon & porridge, lime juice

Not just any matcha ‘hotcake’, the complex lava-filled dessert was complemented with chewy-soft homemade dango, a quenelle of ricotta cheese, decorative edible flowers, crunchy crumble, dollops of azuki beans and yuzu peel which lends a refreshing zing to the sweet sweet treat. Baked to order, the best parts would have to be the crispy edge and closely followed by the oozing warm molten centre. And though the flowing green tea fondant was not overly cloying, it lacked the strong bitter-sweetness and fragrance matcha usually carry. A well-executed ‘hotcake’nonetheless, it is best to share with 2 or more!

And so my search for the Hokkaido Fermented Butter Ice-Cream continues — finally found it at the Citylink Mall branch. Yet another flavour that adds to the list of favourite ice-cream flavours by Chateraise, this flavour comes with an alluring hint of buttery goodness in the form of a smooth, cold treat while speckled with raisins within that gives it the "Rum & Raisins" sort of vibe.

Butterfly pea flower itself doesn't have a strong fragrance, so don't expect anything more than tasting the base flavour. Which is good that it isn't as sweet as it potentially looks. If you're ordering a cool beverage at the cafe, go for this! #Burpple

One of the three new seafood snacks available at all Tip Top outlets. Deep-fried dory and tater tots with salted egg sauce. An alternative is the Salmon Combo ($3.90) that comes with crispy salmon and tater tots. If you love tater tots as much as I do, there is also an option to purchase the crispy morsels at $2.

First time trying the extended menu (there's so much new things to try - think matcha fondue?? Kinako mochi 😍). I got the houjicha parfait and it was really so so good. From the rich roasted tea taste & smooth texture of the soft serve to the pairing of Azuki, rice crackers & jelly, each bite made me smile a little more. Thankful for the easier access now & can't wait to be back for more! ⭐️ 5/5 ⭐️
