๐๐ง๐จ ๐๐๐ค is one of well-known Vietnamese restaurants in Singapore, and have grown to 3 outletsโone at Beach Road, one at Rangoon Road, and the newest at VivoCity, which is the one I visited. Though a small modest shop, I felt as though I was transported to a streetside eatery along the streets of Ho Chi Minh or Hanoi, sitting at one of their stainless steel tables.
I ordered a bowl of ๐๐ก๐๐๐๐ ๐ฝ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐ค (Phแป Bรฒ Tรกi, $8.90) and ๐๐ฅ๐๐๐๐๐ก ๐ฝ๐๐๐ ๐พ๐ค๐ข๐๐ค ๐๐๐ค (Phแป Dแบทc Biแปt, $9.90). Both are served in bowls of warm nourishing soup, slippery smooth noodles, slices of beef topped with mint and onion, though the latter also comes with beef brisket, beef balls and a bowl of egg-drop soup. While the slices of beef were generous, they were a little tough and chewy.
I also had to order my favourite beverage of all-timeโ๐๐๐๐ฉ๐ฃ๐๐ข๐๐จ๐ ๐พ๐ค๐๐๐๐ (Cร Phรช Phin Sแปฏa Dรก/Dรณng, $4.50), one hot and one iced. My favourite part of Vietnamese coffee is how the dark Robusta coffee blends perfectly with the sweetened condensed milk to meld into a rich, milk chocolatey drink. However, I did find that the coffee at Mrs Pho was a little pricey for its relatively small portion, and it was rather wasteful to serve the drinks in disposable cups, since we were dining in.
If youโre looking for good Vietnamese food, I wouldnโt recommend Mrs Phoโฆ But where should you go then?
I made a video on the ๐ฝ๐๐จ๐ฉ ๐๐๐๐ฉ๐ฃ๐๐ข๐๐จ๐ ๐๐ค๐ค๐ ๐๐ฃ ๐๐๐ฃ๐๐๐ฅ๐ค๐ง๐โand if you want to find out which other place you can find affordable and authentic Vietnamese food thatโs better than Mrs Pho, check it out on YouTube now! https://youtu.be/RQR_kX7VOY8

Although one would usually think of chains like Mrs Pho or So Pho when you think of Vietnamese food, ๐๐ค๐ฃ๐ ๐๐๐ช๐ฃ๐ ๐๐๐๐ฉ๐ฃ๐๐ข๐๐จ๐ ๐พ๐ช๐๐จ๐๐ฃ๐ is a hidden gem that the real Vietnamese in Singapore go to.
I feel that you can judge a good Vietnamese eatery based on the quality of their pho, so I ordered a bowl of ๐๐ฅ๐๐๐๐๐ก ๐ฝ๐๐๐ ๐พ๐ค๐ข๐๐ค ๐๐๐ค (Phแป Dแบทc Biแปt, $8.90) to see for myself. The Special Beef Combo is like a zhnged-up version of your usual beef pho, with slices of beef, beef brisket and a raw egg that you can whisk in and cook in your piping hot soup.
Another item on Long Phungโs menu was the ๐๐ฅ๐๐๐ฎ ๐ฝ๐๐๐ ๐๐ค๐ค๐๐ก๐๐จ (Hแปง Tiแบฟu Bรฒ Kho, $7.90), which caught my eye because itโs something quite special that you donโt usually find in other Vietnamese restaurants (at least, not in Singapore). The spicy beef stew is richly flavoured, and I could taste hints of spices like star anise. The beef was incredibly delicious, generous and fall-apart tender.
Of course, whatโs a meal at a Vietnamese restaurant without Vietnamese Coffee? I ordered a hot and iced ๐๐๐๐ฉ๐ฃ๐๐ข๐๐จ๐ ๐พ๐ค๐๐๐๐ (Cร Phรช Phin Sแปฏa Dรก/Dรณng, $4), both of which were rich and chocolatey, a perfect blend of aromatic Robusta coffee and creamy sweetened condensed milk.
