Was pretty impressed by this dish! Firstly, just look at all the colours from the pumpkin mash, purple cabbage slaw and tomato salsa! Taste wise, the dish didn’t disappoint as the thick cut of halibut was pan seared perfectly to retain its flaky texture and natural oiliness.

Rookery’s concept is that of cafe by day and bar by night and when I was there on a Saturday, the place was nice and quiet for a slow lunch and good food â˜ș

Runny, smooth scrambled eggs, grilled halloumi, a choice of bacon chop or smoked salmon with 2 slices of brioche toast and a side salad đŸ‘đŸŒ This brunch dish was very well put together and I appreciated the drizzle of mustard sauce on the toast to cut all the heavy flavours. I also dare say this is one of the better scrambled eggs I’ve had at cafes in SG. Already awesome food that tastes even MORE awesome knowing the price I’m paying with burpple beyond’s 141 deal!

Note: This dish was supposed to come with a croissant according to the menu but think they ran out, hence it was replaced with brioche toast.

Wasn’t intending to get this initially but the sales lady saw us checking it out on the counter and started introducing all the cakes to us. We looked at each other, our eyes lit up and he made the call - YES, LET’S GET. Love love love this cake with its gula melaka fudge at the top and glutinous rice filling in between layers of sponge cake. The texture of the cake is really moist and not at all dry and crumbly. Will be back to try the other cakes like the ondeh ondeh and the durian which also look really good!

Decided to give this a shot after seeing snaking long queues at 7.30pm and I’m pleasantly surprised with this unexpected good find in a Kopitiam! This spinach soup reminds me of the 3 egg spinach (egg, salted egg, century egg) that many Chinese restaurants have, except its goodness comes in a full bowl of soup! You can choose to have the soup with seafood, yong tau foo or just 3 types of eggs and mushrooms. The yong tau foo is worth mentioning because I think they make the ingredients themselves freshly.

The other bowl we got for the burpple one for one set. As you can see from that delightful pink colour with some blowtorch charred bits, they were really generous with the mentaiko sauce! That being said, if you’re not a big fan of mentaiko or if you prefer to eat your chirashi ai naturale, this may get a bit cloying for you. Overall, YAY for another great meal with burpple! đŸ„ł

$30.90 but paid only $15.50 after burpple beyond for a set of chirashi don with mentaiko tamago on the side, mentaiko ebi, salad, miso soup and refillable drinks = happy belly and happy wallet!! đŸ€— Kei Kaisendon definitely did not compromise on the variety and generous quantity of fresh sashimi in the chirashi don and they also paid attention to fine details such as the miso soup actually having ingredients like mixed vegetables, salmon and chicken.

Steak was a little too salty for my liking (it tasted as if it was mainly seasoned with salt flakes on the exterior) and the herb butter on top sadly did little to augment the flavour. As for the soufflé, I appreciated its texture but the roquefort cheese sort of an acquired taste so nah, not really for me either.

But overall, still a good meal, especially since soufflés are quite hard to find in Singapore!

Who knew a hearty beef stew and a fluffy comté soufflé could complement each other so well? The beef stew, with its generous servings of tender, juicy beef cubes with bacon, carrots and mushrooms drenched in a thick gravy, is bound to warm your tummy and soul. The comté soufflé provided a nice contrast in both texture and flavour as it was fluffy (almost as if eating a cloud!) and mildly sweet.

Apart from the good food, the restaurant had a nice and quiet ambience, as though transporting me back to France with French music playing in the background. Once again, a fantastic deal thanks to burpple!!

This photo seriously doesn’t do this rice roll enough justice - this was THE bomb! Imagine a rice roll covering so silky smooth it just almost slides off your tongue with a crispy tempura flake interior and right at the centre, a succulent and well-marinated prawn! This was an interesting twist on traditional rice rolls (I know in HK, they have the version with youtiao inside, but this one is hands down better)!

Bought chope vouchers for use at either 5.30pm or 8.30pm and enjoyed my meal here at 50% off!

A hefty price tag for a slice of cake but this is seriously a life-changing strawberry shortcake!!! Most strawberry shortcakes get jelat after a while but this one stays light and enjoyable even till the last bite 😋 What amazes me the most is how the fresh cream can have such a full, luscious creamy taste while remaining airy and fluffy! This might be the only place I eat strawberry cakes at in future...

Matcha soft serve wasn’t particularly intense like I would have liked it but I was glad that it wasn’t too sweet! There was a single shot of kuromitsu (Japanese black honey) at the side which I had fun squeezing in. The almond slices also provided a contrasting crunch to the soft serve.

I was here on a weekday evening and the cafe was nice and quiet. There are comfy sofas for bigger groups to chill too!

Certainly does the 14 hour smoking with salt and pepper justice cos the meat was really flavourful with a mild charred taste. The meat was very lean and this made it a bit too tough at certain parts. Once again, a bit too pricey for my liking considering the serving size! May not be back sadly...
