The usual cafe grub of the full breakfast works. Not outstanding in any way and somehow the eggs looked better than they actually tasted. The sausage was a tad too salty. Sourdough was good though. And they gave copious amounts of mushrooms which we enjoyed 🤗
One for one lunch promotion on weekdays! One (thin) serving of chicken chop, some potato wedges (countable with my 10 fingers) and green beans. The serving was pathetically small... and the oven roasted chicken didn’t taste oven roasted at all - more like grilled?
I understand that they’re busy at lunch time but the service was.. not nice. My friend requested for her pasta to be without garlic and they just replied saying ‘one for one promotion, cannot make changes’. May not be back ever again.
This was part of the BB set where we got a main, an appetiser/side dish and a drink at one for one! The Thai boat noodles were flavourful, but I wish there was more soup as the noodles seemed to soak up the soup really fast. The pork slices were tender but the pork ball was not chewy enough and could be improved.
For the appetisers, I’d recommended getting the Moo Ping (sweet chicken on skewers)! Although there are only 3 sticks, they are highly delicious 🤤
Buttery fragrant crust encasing soft wobbly soya custard that isn’t too sweet! Absolutely love these soya tarts that we bought 2 boxes of 8 at one shot! Have been eating these since I was young and the same comforting taste has never changed ☺️ Next time, I’m gonna pre-order to try the grass jelly/red bean flavours!
Can’t quite compare to Man Man - the unagi isn’t as crispy and the dashi soup broth isn’t as tasty. But still pretty worth it to get a sizeable portion of fresh unagi!
Came on a weekday evening and there was a short queue but luckily you can reserve on chope in advance. There were some interesting seats sitting on cushions at traditional Japanese low tables which might be quite fun!
Sadly, this sounded better than it tasted. The matcha spread didn’t taste much of matcha and instead, all I could taste was coconut (almost tasted like kaya because of that). The bread itself was also really thin and the wholemeal bread just didn’t really work out too. Give this a miss and stick to your usual old school kaya toast!
All time fav fav FAV from this Japanese bakery! If you’re here, please do yourself a favour and buy this - soft fluffy bun encasing smooth, bittersweet matcha custard cream. It’s a little expensive but considering that they use good quality ingredients, just take my money la 😂
One look at the earl grey tea bits you know you’re in for a treat if you’re an earl grey fan like me! 🤗 This was a super fragrant scone with a rich tea taste and great crumbly texture
Our first time trying Ah Chiang’s and we got the pork porridge ($4.80) with sliced meat and minced meat and the mixed pork porridge ($4.80) which is essentially similar to the pork porridge but with pig liver and intestines. The congee was thick and made extra smooth with addition of egg ($0.60) but needed quite a bit of pepper and soya sauce to add flavour.
What really wowed me was the ginger chicken ($6). The ginger gave a just right amount of spicy kick and in fact, had a sweet-salty aftertaste which complemented the tender chicken really well.
I think we ordered too much for 2 people and we were really stuffed after this meal! Which is a good thing cos we initially thought the porridge may not have enough ingredients.
A pretty decent cup of mocha that was chocolatey and just the right level of bittersweet but perhaps could be creamier and thicker for a decadent finish
Truffle scrambled eggs, kale and prosciutto on a brioche thick toast. This was pretty yummy and all components of the dish complemented each other well. However, the brioche toast was too dry at the corners and only the parts topped with the scrambled eggs above were moist.
Sadly, the service here was sorely lacking - we were told to get water, cups, cutlery and serviettes ourselves and we also had to order and pay directly at the counter so I’m not sure what service am I actually paying for? Anyhow, at least the food filled our bellies unlike some cafes where portions are minuscule.
The usual brunch suspect done quite decently and with HUGE portions and good variety! On this plate, we had scrambled eggs, a grilled tomato, three slices of bacon and smoked salmon, one sausage, potato wedges and two slices of thick brioche toast. The scrambled eggs were not the most creamy and required some sea salt (which they kindly provided on the side) and black pepper to add extra flavour. The brioche was also kind of dry... May not pay the full price for this but with burpple beyond, all’s good 🤗
Pro tip: Came for a Sunday brunch after a morning run and sat outdoors to watch the cars on the street and the rest of the world go by. The cafe wasn’t too crowded and it was nice to chill there on a Sunday morning!
