Pictured above is their Mummy's Assam Pasta! A lightly battered dory fillet topped on the assam pasta. The gravy packs a whole punch of flavours. Hits you strong with the sour notes, followed by the assam flavour. OH BOY, IM BLOWN BY IT! The noodles were cooked to the right texture - al dente!
With Burpple Beyond, this original price of $15 would be halved! Bring a friend along for this! The portion is really decent, slightly on the bigger scale π
π Tilapia, BBQ Chicken, Cheese Cauliflower, Button Shrooms, Egg White, Roasted Almond Flakes, Lettuce & Pesto Vinaigrette.
Got the large bowl featured above at $15. The amount of greens was really too little to call this a salad! βΉ But certainly, the toppings are packed with savoury flavours and tasted good on their own. Wonder if this is still considered a healthy food π
HANDS IN THE AIR IF YOU'RE AN AVOCADO LOVER! π
cos I'm definitely one! They start serving breakfast from 7.30am and everyday's brekkie food differs. Just check out the menu on their Instagram page the night before.
I've gotten a smashed avocado croissant w original sous vide chicken. It's topped with some cherry tomatoes which were absolutely sweet and refreshing! (fyi, i dont like raw tomatoes and am rly picky bout them). The chicken was really tender, in small chunks and goes perfectly with the avo. Needless to say, AVO IS THE HIGHLIGHT. so generous, so smooth &creamy!!!! Really worth the buck. The croissant wasn't overly buttery, yet still slightly flaky. This kept me full even till lunch time so highly recommended as a brunch food!
Got it together with a flat white for $13. Not quite sure of the ala carte price for the croissant thou. They didn't quite display the prices for the breakfast food.
The aunty at the stall is really friendly &cute! My lunch kaki went to reserve the ingredients at around 11am. She heard that the dishes get sold out real fast! So we've got sotong, taupok, braised eggs, intestines, braised belly, taugwa &fish cake!
Every ingredient feels like they're homemade. The fishcake is really soft and yet BOINGBOINGG (aka QQ) π The braised egg is like those japanese ramen eggs with molten centre (ζΊεΏ)! Taupok is stuffed with some chopped cucumber, carrot &minced meat. The taugwa is sooooo well braised; infused with all the essence of the gravy! This is the perfect pairing with plain porridge!
All these + 2 bowls of porridge for $18. Pretty affordable i would say!
The sister of creamier, the one that's always featuring a group of people waiting outside the shop for seats! The crowd has never seemed to die at all.
First time trying their soft serve in a cone, instead of pairing it with their famed waffles. The cone is blackish and seems to be charcoal flavoured. My partner in crime found it to be slightly bitter and we ended up finishing all the ice cream, leaving behind an empty cone shell ππ #PRIORITIES
The ice cream itself was pretty good! The nutty fragrance hits you on first lick. Slightly on the sweeter side, but what's dessert without that sugar punch right! Also another steal on Beyond, the signature ice cream with 2 toppings (as pictured) for $4.5 - no gst, no svc charge! Holla over if you're in the hood~
A scroll through Burpple reviews will let you know that their Aburi Scallops &Salmon bowl is a MUST-TRY.
It's a bowl of japanese white rice, topped with aburi salmon cubes in the center. Sliced cucumbers and aburi scallops line up around the bowl. Each shellfish is crowned with a little dollop of black truffle and finally, a sprinkle of tobiko completes this.
Do note that wasabi is available upon request! The scallops go really well with that salted truffle. The scent of the funghi doesn't come off too strongly and the saltiness complements the seafood perfectly. That balance of the sweetness, saltiness &fragrance is just right! The aburi salmon are not too bad either.
This bowl is priced at $17 nett (yesss no gst nor svc charge here!). But with Burpple Beyond, JUST $8.50. EVERY MEETUP I ALSO WANNA GO TO THIS PLACE PLS.
This pinkish puff with a crumbly top is called THE ETERNAL GARDEN. It's actually rose flavoured! The scent is light while the cream isn't too sweet nor heavy. The smooth cream, coupled with the crumbly puff, gives a contrasting texture. Goes well with the non-milk teas!
A halal cafe near the sultan mosque in Bugis area. The food here are reasonably priced and I don't even recall if they have anything above $20! No GST, only service charge. Do note that they only accept cash/grabpay.
My chilli crab pasta wasn't too spicy and had alot of crabmeat! At $17.9+, i would think that this is one of the more affordable crab pastas out there. Tastewise was not bad, but not fantastic either. My colleague tried their carbonara and loved it! Portion is decent and definitely won't leave you hungry. A place to consider if you're looking at halal options! Beats those that charge pretty exorbitantly (ard $30).
This is located at a mini japanese fair right outside Isetan Scotts. I was there on 2 Feb 2019 for info!
This strawberry ice is not sliced strawberries on shaved ice. It's frozen strawberries, sliced, all laid in the cup and has condensed mill drizzled in between the layers! Topped with a dollop of whipped cream βοΈ It's sooooo refreshing! At $8, i would say that this is definitely worth your buck!
Go try it if it's still there (;
Finally tried the highly raved toastie here!
The bread is crusty on the outside and soft inside! Perfect texture and bite of a good toast. It has cheese and slices of avocado sandwiched between. I added chicken breast for $5. The avocado didnt particularly shine in this. The chicken stole it's limelight with its tenderness and fragrance. I guess the poultry has been marinated with some ginger or sort, as it tasted like hainanese chicken! May try the avocado toastie without any toppings ($10) next time to see how the butter fruit fare on its own.
The Signature coffee has some coconut oil on it! Slowly and subtlely releasing the scent of the coconut. It's pretty alluring.
The moment i fed a spoonful of the pasta into my mouth, i went MHMMHMMMMM~~ it's so goooood!!! The noodles are coated with a layer of really light cream and has a burst of umami taste (cheese, cream, parsley and this taste 'X' that is just bomb diggity). It's a simple dish but really delightful. The meatballs tasted pretty chinese style, probably due to the way it was marinated and the ingredients that went into it. They're soft and juicy nonetheless! The dish wasn't too heavy and really, is my kind of pasta to have on a sunny saturday! No heavy cream to drown my palates.
Yours truly at $15 (exclud. gst).
On the table: Yuzu swiss roll / Ispahan swiss roll / Honey Iced Lemon Tea / Iced Coconut Espresso
The yuzu notes were light and hits you right at the first bite. It's a perfect pairing with a pot of tea! The cake has quite a texture (not as smooth as the usual delicate cakes. I wouldn't call it rough but there's some slight granular texture to it) but is soft &pretty fluffy! - if i dont sound like I'm making any sense, pls go try it for yourself! HAHA.
The Ispahan one has similar texture, but with the thin brown baked layer on top (like your usual traditional swiss rolls!). THE ROSE FLAVOUR WAS SO ALLURING. SO LIGHT YET PROMINENT. The jelly is the crux, cos it is lychee flavoured and has thin slices of the fruit in it! IM LOVING THIS SO MUCHHH.
Anyway, both flavours of the rolls are seasonal special, alongside another mandarin orange meringue one. Like what the lady assured us, the cakes are light. The cream isn't cloyingly sweet nor too thick. As for the drinks, the honey ILT is pretty passable. Coffee is quite good thou! But imo, i would think hot tea goes best with those delicate rolls.
Adore the vibe of this cafe too, my perfect hideout on a random weekday afternoon β‘
