Trying to secure a seating area posses some challenges at the previous Song Kee stall and wait time can easily stretched up to 45 mins or more. It had since been taken over and operated by FINEST SONG KEE now. A new owner and related to the previous owner. It opened with much fan fare and across social media platform announcing its operations. As I reside nearby, am naturally drawn and reminisce the great taste of Song Kee. I came with high expectations, I must say that adding the word "FINEST" is not gonna do magic! I do not think it's fair for me even to compare the both. Everything was simply wrong, fish balls were unlike the previous, tau pok seem to have shrunk in size plus flatten. The soup was just horrible, really fish ball and water taste! Do note that these are my personal opinion as everyone has different tastebuds, hence please do not feel offended if you are a fan. I do offer apologies for my outright bluntness. Congee - traditional Cantonese comfort food for breakfast. Unlike it's cousins, Taiwanese porridge or other rice water form of food, this is the glue like state of rice and water through constant boiling of it. The magic happens when the introduction of ingredients like, minced pork, sliced pork, cuttle fish, meat balls, sliced fish, shredded chicken, sliced beef, century eggs, peanuts, eggs, or any other imaginable food makes this simple dish transform into such delicacies. Best served with ็‚ธๆฒนๆก or deep fried dough starts the day right. Surely a stall I would recommend if you are looking for simple and old skool type yet delicious breakfast, this is one. Been around for decades serving what they do best - Hor Fun (White Flat Rice Noodles). A comfort dish originated from Malaysia, State of Ipoh. Various styles are available, comes serving with Chicken/Prawns/Mushrooms/Dumpling etc... The gravy is usually quite bland. This is even the case in Ipoh. The magic is in the smoothness of the rice noodles. Yumminess 3/5

Situated along Macpherson road, next to veteran Duck Kway Chap is this Crabmeat Wanton Mee. Stall owner is friendly and helpful with orders. Darkened sauce wanton mee, no ketchup available. A $4 or $5 choice is available and each comes with generous amounts of fried dumplings, steam wanton and Char Siew. Mee Kia dominates all the servings. Nothing fantastic nor are there any wow factor. I do have to say each dumpling's fillings is generously filled and not the skinny can find the meat type! I did not really taste any crab in these wanton too. However, for a quick meal just to ease your hunger or least try something which claims out of the norm, it's worth a trip to gain you your bragging rights. Yumminess: 2.5/5

YTF - a lady killer by nature, scores of ladies flocking such a stall is a common sight at any food court here in Singapore. Many different types too...this particular stall brings forth yet another choice for us - THE IPOH STYLE!!! various varieties all freshly hand made. You can opt to have your choices deep fried or simply boiled. Various style to have it with, choose from Kway Teow, Noodles, Rice, Chee Cheong fun or even served it with yummy Curry. Worth a try....Yumminess 3.5/5

I don't think the word "Zi Char ็…ฎ็‚’โ€ is suitable for this place. Tucked away at Blk 47 Tanglin Halt Road, one can differentiate due to the settings, light music, wine glass, Alaskan Crabs which are not normally found at a HDB area. I quickly settled in with my family, 7 adults & 4 kids and started ordering....1) ่™พ้…ฑ้ธก which was not bad and because we were famished after waiting 45 minutes, another serving was ordered. Only to realized from the helper that the chef here cooks by the table ordering so if you ordered again, it would probably take a while๐Ÿ˜ก๐Ÿ˜ก๐Ÿ˜ก 2) ่‚ฅ็‰›่ฑ†่Šฝ deliciously done...yum 3) ่šๅท had an unusual taste...oyster and salted egg yolk combination not bad 4) ็ƒฉ้ฅญ looks too wet for my liking. Mui Fan should be sticky gravy and not like watery porridge 5) ่žƒ่Ÿน็ฑณ็ฒ‰ - claims to be top 15 in Singapore, I agreed to give them that as its top 15!!! Vermicelli tasted too peppery like ็Œช่‚šๆฑค, crabs is also a little disappointing, freshness and sweetness is missing 6) ็ ‚้”…็ฌ‹ๅฃณ่ฑ†่… this dish is unique as it tasted perfect to go with rice, saucy, with bits of minced pork, egg plant, bean curd and fish - splendid combination. 7) ็ซน่›ค cooked with fried garlic with oyster sauce - yum. Lastly, I probably would not visit again as I feel they are more suited at a mall venue or actual restaurant setting to command nearly $600 bill. Not your average Joe joint. Yumminess 4/5

Lengendary Mr Kim - The once famous Rolex King Fried Hokkien Mee Owner, took Singapore by storm in the 80's. Complaint-natured Singaporeans were lapping $15 a plate like obedient students. However those days have numbered..... Last week, I was brought here again but this time I did not had the FHM, I had the crabs instead and my oh my oh my "Wholely Crabs", I was completed blown away....... I had "็„–้ป‘่ƒกๆค’่žƒ่Ÿนโ€ or Black Pepper Crabs which was broiled or simmered to 110 perfection!!!! Served piping hot in a pot. The sweetness and juiciness of the crab meat were retained to excellento! Aiyo....writing this means me drool and crave for it again. It is just so so good. Yumminess 4.5/5. Thanks Winston for such a great recommendation and meal. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

A quintessential part of cuisine in South East Asia and is often sold by roadside vendors back in the old days. Times have changed so has this sweet dessert....fine shaved ice instead of the chunky and bits. Ingredients stays similar, red beans, green jelly noodles, coconut milk, atta seed, palm sugar.....really really really yum! Especially in hot tropical weather. Woohoo....Yumminess 4/5. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Tickled by my friend and a popular food blogger's fb post. I told myself I have to try this stall!!! 2 queues were formed right in front of the stall, one is for placing order and payment with the stall helper and the other is after payment collection of food. I naturally went for the $8 fish maw soup with noodles. I must admit that queuing does makes the food LOOKS better! Hahahaha.... My order came in 2 separate bowls, one for the ingredients and soup, the other solely for the noodles and mushrooms. As a Chilli lover, mine is extra Chilli, however I realized the uncle added ketchup in every order, so the noodles tasted strange to me. Well....strange for Bak Chor Mee at least, might have worked well for Wanton Noodles. Generous amount of ingredients, fish maw, liver, pork ball, fish balls, dumplings, sliced pork, minced pork, seaweed, egg, all nicely tucked into a decent sized bowl. I didn't have the feeling I was eating BCM, but honestly I did get the feeling of having ๅฐ็ข—้ข. Maybe as a smoker, my tastebuds is different hence I find the stock a little blunt. Personal opinion and not to offend anyone - nothing to scream about. I must however give it up to ่‚ฅ็†Š, this is yet another creation of Fei Xiong Group, from simply fried economic noodles or bee hoon to curry rice and now to BCM revolution, it finds the bull's eyes in most of us. Well done! Yumminess: 2.5/5

Mee Kia so so, Fish Ball so so....actually for a bowl of what Lau Sim would described as "้ธกไธ้ข/Shredded Chicken Noodles" might be slightly misleading. For $4.50 you get a bowl of kid's size Mee Kia, it comes with maybe 10 shreds of miniature chicken meat, 2 fish balls, some minced pork floating in the soup (if you can find them) and 2 fish dumplings (้ฑผ่ƒถ). I finished my bowl under 5. Everything except for the fish dumplings were mediocre....nothing to cry for but I must say the fish dumplings does have a certain effect on me even though till now I do not know what to make of this so called "้ธกไธ้ข/Shredded Chicken Noodles". Will I come again? Well, yes.... Yumminess: 3/5. Closed Monday, 7.30am till 2pm (do anticipate some internal scuffle) ๐Ÿ˜ฌ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

Sandwiched in a suburban market place of Toa Payoh, this stall is swamped with scores of vulture during lunch and dinner time. At first glance, you probably might not even know what it's selling as there is no menu. Face off patrons waiting to place order with the extremely busy ่€ๆฟๅจ˜ who is the waiter, server, cashier rolled in one, with ่€ๆฟ performing magical works on the wok! Feisty making lightning eye contact with Ms "Do It All", I went straight to babbling my order...่€ๆฟๅจ˜ asked how many of us? I said 8 and ordered ็‚’็•ช่–ฏๅถ๏ผŒๅ•ฆๅ•ฆใ€‚ใ€‚then half way through eating....่€ๆฟๅจ˜ๅ†ๆฅ่’ธ๐ŸŸ..... I am simply blown away by the simplicity, tastiness of each of these served dishes. It's like finding ้ฃŸ้ฅฑๅ…ˆ in Toa Payoh ;))) The price is also easy on the wallet....maybe too easy.....I had 9 dishes for only $88!!! Hence before hell breaks lose, my recommendation is GO NOW!!!! Open daily except Monday from 12 noon to 2pm and 5pm till 8pm. Go early or you could end up disappointed. Yumminess 4/5

Another comfort food commonly known as "Roti Prata" here in Singapore but affectionately known as "Roti Canai" across the border. This stall has taken "Roti Prata" to a whole new level, I had the opportunity to try what they called 1) Plaster Blaster - Roti Kosong with 2 slices of ham above and topped with egg Benedict and cream sauce....well it tasted like breakfast ;p 2) Prata Goreng - From the name you will know that they replace the Mee in the Goreng and replaced it with Prata.....well not to my liking though...you probably can imagine, Prata being shredded and cooked with greens and red sauce to give it the coloring of the Goreng feel....how should I put it? It's also like Char Kway Teow but no cockles, no sausages feel....hahaha. 3) Umami 50 - it's egg Prata with luncheon meat, cheese, floss, mayo and cheese.....oooowwww.....jelat to the max!!!! A nice place to hang out eating comfort food that is just not the way it is anymore (well at least for me). I very much just preferred a simple old skool egg Prata with yummy curry to go with it. Nevertheless....worth a shot at it. Yumminess 3/5 (I probably give it a higher rating if I am in my teens) wahahaha. ;p
