So punchy, so yummy. What magic was that?? The noodles were firmer than what I'm used to but I liked it! Such a good bite! They were also coated really well with the sauce. Unfortunately when I came they already ran out of fishballs but they did give me some other extra ingredients to make up for it including the really unique orangey prawn cakes (I think they're prawn cakes.. Someone correct me please if I'm wrong??).
They gave a sprinkling of crispy fried lard and fried garlic on top and that was just the clincher. Such oomph! Such aroma!

What I always enjoy from any kolo mee bowl is how the noodles look white and plain but are actually full with flavours and fragrance. This one was no different, tasty sauce and minced meat, and good char siew too.
I just found it weird though that they didn't give / put any chilli paste. They only gave pickled chilli which admittedly was actually hotter than the usual pickled chilli at other stalls. Maybe it's just their style... Who knows.

More than the texture, the seasoning, the bite.. In the case of these noodles, the taste fell really flat. Some chilli paste helped a little bit with taste but ultimately unable to pull it out of its flat misery.
However eating these noodles way beyond the taste. It was about the nostalgia, the memories about being a young, stupid, poor student just roaming around the dim plaza, talking shiz and laughing about nothing over a plate of noodles drenched in jet black soy sauce.
And with that, maybe the tasteless blob of carb can be forgiven.

I was so excited to try it out as I had been looking for good fuzhou fishballs (fishballs with minced meat inside). The stall usually serves it in soup but I found out that they have noodles too. Usually I'd pick mee pok (wide noodles) for fishball noodles but the uncle informed me that the mee kia (thin noodles) was the traditional choice.
Overall I had a really enjoyable meal. Noodles were great with great sauce. Love the fried shallots, those always give such pleasant taste and fragrance. Of course the fishballs were excellent, bursting with flavour. The meat dumplings, I haven't really had something like them before. They tasted great though, and probably were a little like siew mai?
All in all really good and I'd love to try more combinations. With minced meat for instance.

Even the background - the classic surface of any old-school hawker centre tables. The addition of 1 single fried wanton was an interesting one. I wasn't mad at all but the singularity of it kinda amused me in some way. Anyone else amused? No?
The noodles were good with really spicy base sauce. The spiciness really caught me off guard to be honest. If you know me personally you'd know how much spice I can take but ooo wee that was spicy. Char siew was sweetish and chunky. The wantons were definitely more dough than fillings though...
However all in all it's good dose of noodles and definitely I'd be back.

Eating at this place felt like coming to a relative's house and served a home-cooked meal.
I had a mee siam. This was more a nyonya/peranakan style rather than malay style though honestly I don't know much about the difference. Is "comforting" a taste? Coz that's what I tasted. They were not heavy on anything, everything was just perfectly balanced. Slightly sour, slightly sweet, and very refreshing with a touch of lime. The chilli was very good and punchy too. Vermicelli was not too soft and soaked up the gravy well.
Overall I had a nice satisfying breakfast and felt like I was home.

And of course what else would I have if not noodles?? This was bun thit nuong (please forgive my misspellings!), vermicelli noodles with grilled pork and fried spring rolls. The accompanying sauce is light and tart. Grilled pork was charred nicely, sooo yumm. What I also like about this place is the condiments that we could use to customize the taste. I put on some chilli to make the dish spicier as per my spicy tongue! They have many other noodle dishes but I always find myself gravitating towards the grilled meat variety 😋

I'd characterize this as simple and balanced, with a punchy kick.
It again started with me wanting to go to a specific stall but finding it closed (why does this keep happening to me??).
It was already quite late and I saw this stall was still open and selling some noodles, so I got mee soto from them. I was glad that I did. The taste wasn't too strong like some mee soto I've had before. It was all balanced nicely. The chilli had a really nice kick though! I usually would ask for extra chilli coz I usually feel that the chilli in Singapore is not as spicy as I'd like it to be. Glad I had not asked for extra that time as it would have sent me gasping for air 😝
I only wish they had begedil (potato patty) to put on top, that'd be perfect!!
