When I go to Dunman, I usually go to the wanton mee stall at the 2nd level, but I hadn't had this Joo Chiat Ah Huat (at 1st level) for some time so I thought hey why not.
After waiting seemingly forever, the noodles seemed promising. Unfortunately one thing really ruined the whole experience: it was just way too greasy. It was uncomfortable to eat and it didn't even taste that fantastic. RIP matte lipstick. Referring to my old notes about the wanton mee stalls here I noted that the char siew at this stall was better. But now I don't think I'm coming back. Much better off eating the one at the 2nd level with much better chilli too.
Anyway! If you swipe ⏪, you'll see what I recommend instead: tau kwa pau (stuffed tofu) from the stall next to it. Now those were legit fresh and yummy. Get those instead of these noodles. That is all.

I had the korean chicken carbonara. It was a great balance between the sharper taste of korean fried chicken + kimchi and the richer creamy carbonara sauce. It can very easily be too much but not this place! All good!
The chicken was juicy and tasty too.
I really can't fault this place man, I'm not biased but they just have excellent food!!

Probably all-time.
The stall uses plain hard boiled egg instead of braised egg. The thick starchy gravy slowly dissolved into tasty slurpable soup that's super addictive. I always finish the gravy without fail! The noodles were cooked just right and didn't turn too soft. I especially liked the fried fritters that really soaked up the gravy, yummm. The addition of garlic, vinegar, and chilli really rounded up the dish.
Another special mention for this stall is how uncle and his family who run the stall are always so smiley and friendly. Warm tummy, warm hearts 😊

On second thought it was probably not the best idea 😅 Kway teow by nature is very soft, which is why I think it's good when it's fried - it will firm up while absorbing sauce. But since this was just boiled kway teow drenched in sauce it was just a soft slippery blob. 😂
Still very tasty and spicy sauce though! It was good to slurp the soft kway teow covered with sauce. And their really tasty toppings, wow. Show me better fish dumplings than this place's!

After having their good wanton mee I thought the dumplings looked promising so I made a note to try that on my next visit. When I was about to order I saw "Dumpling mee pok" on the menu and I thought that was intriguing... Unfortunately it fell flat for me. The sauce was not the same lardy kind for their wanton mee and the dumplings' flavours were one-dimensional.
Will stick to their original wanton mee the next time.

Several of my Vietnamese friends have said that this place is authentic so I trust their judgment! I am such a creature of comfort and habit, there is basically a small pool of dishes that I always order. I got to know this one because of my friend who told me to order "number 48". Ever since then it's a favourite! I have to admit I mostly order this dish for its excellent grilled lemongrass chicken. So smoky and yummy. The noodles are of vermicelli type with a light tart sauce. It wasn't spicy enough for me though (don't blame me, blame my Indonesian background) so I asked them for some extra cut chilli to up the oomph.
The chicken is also good with rice but vermicelli with all the fresh vegetables is a whole different experience.
Remember, order number 48!

Looked like a new stall. I can never keep up with the stalls at Old Airport Road Food Centre!
It reminds me of the Yan Kee mee sua. Very similar but I definitely like this one better. It's less strong/salty than the Yan Kee one. Also quite vinegary so that's probably not for everyone.. Chilli was nice, tasty and fresh. Not sure if the fishballs and meatballs were handmade, but they were decent anyway. They also had many many other options, so I foresee coming back to try them all.

So punchy, so yummy. What magic was that?? The noodles were firmer than what I'm used to but I liked it! Such a good bite! They were also coated really well with the sauce. Unfortunately when I came they already ran out of fishballs but they did give me some other extra ingredients to make up for it including the really unique orangey prawn cakes (I think they're prawn cakes.. Someone correct me please if I'm wrong??).
They gave a sprinkling of crispy fried lard and fried garlic on top and that was just the clincher. Such oomph! Such aroma!
Definitely a must try 😋

There were multiple wanton mee stalls and I just decided to try it out. At first look it looked similar to either Pontian Wanton Mee stalls or another similar one Soon Soon Soon. It's also because they have multiple choices of sauce ranging from white, black, spicy, etc.
I actually didn't specify any sauce, and got this kinda oily and reddish sauce. I'm guessing that was the spicy sauce?
The noodles were straighter and softer than what I'm used to. Sauce was quite good and robust. The crispy fried lard obviously gave even more appetizing fragrance. The noodles came with both boiled and fried wantons which was a nice surprise. The fried wantons were very good! Crunchy and even the wanton skins had flavours.
Overall pretty decent bowl and I might try other variations of sauce.
