The one thing constantly on our minds when it comes to Japanese comfort food is always that steaming, satisfying and warm bowl of Ramen! Usually we seek the porky version of ramen which is their highlight from every prefecture. But in the latest opening of Lot 10 comes a Japanese food court that specializes in things that are truly and uniquely Japanese. Enters the Kagura Ramen shop which serves Chicken ramen and the best part is that the broth are made daily and fresh with the help of a pressure cooker.. We couldnât believe it with our eyes and ears that they could make a chicken ramen with a similar taste profile of a pork broth.. There are 2 types of ramen broth; the clear and the milky.. There are also slight price difference but we chose the milky one(Rm21.90) and you can opt for the set with sides depending on the price and drinks included.. The noodles are really thin yet delicate not overly springy and it complements the milky and rich chicken broth that has a depth of umami flavour and they also includes a thick piece of the chicken meat with a layer of skin that was really juicy.. Itâs much healthier in this sense as it was really oily yet it was rich with an intense umami flavour.. So itâs serves as a healthier option for ramen if you want to take a break from the tonkatsu broth style
Itâs my first time encountering an Indian restaurant that centers its universe of flavours and spices to a single protein which is the Pork! Well we Chinese immensely adores our Pork which is evident in our cuisine but it was a rarity to find an Indian restaurant that serves Pork.. The entire restaurant was heavily adorned with the worship of the lovely animal with piglets made from clay or even plush toys (wonder where is piglet?)..Heard about itâs raving admiration for its Tandoori Pork Ribs that is the highlight of their menu! Well we also ordered the Garlic butter naan, cheese naan and butter naan alongside the butter pork and the pork Briyani.. Overall the hero was the pork ribs as the meat was well seasoned and cooked to perfection as the meat was really easily removed from its bones and it has that melt in your mouth texture with that slight char taste to it! The rest of the dishes we had was a massive let down as there wasnât much Spices dancing in our palates and it was really bland.. The portion was on the small side..
I love it.â- Joey Lawrence

The one surprising find for me would be the opportunity to stumble upon a Greek grape varietal; Assyrtiko that mainly found in the Santorini Island! Jim Barry winery are really adventurous in importing this cutting of such an unique varietal to be planted in Clare Valley which produces the most amazing, dry yet complex Riesling! It was really exciting to try out as I always get to read about it in books but didnât imagine in my wildest dreams to be able to try it out in SA! Well the color of it is quite pale straw somewhat similar to Riesling of Steingarten.. It isnât a very aromatic grape varietal as it was rather reserved but slowly it teases you with a profile of juicy pear and zesty lime! On the palate, it has this medium body to it and alongside it was a medium acidity that makes an excellent aperitif drink to excite you for your meal and it also has a rather prominent note of the ocean minerality somewhat reminiscent to a Sauvignon Blanc.. This wine would go mighty fine with a plate of seafood #afoodiesaffair #burpple #winetasting #greekwine #jimbarrywines #affwine #nationalwinecentre #uniadelaide #aussiewine #barossawine
A succulent white meat goes well with that earthy and creamy Diane sauce alongside the peppery salad that pairs well with a dry style of Riesling or Creamy and crisp acidity Chardonnay from the Adelaide Hills! #afoodiesaffair #burpple #foodie #foodporn #eataustralia #adelaidecentralmarket #winefoodpairing

Had an amazing pleasure in tasting these exceptional fortified wines of Shiraz VP which are made with fully ripened Shiraz berries and fortified with a 12 year old wood aged brandy that creates an elegant wine with fruit sweetness, sweet baking spices that reminds you of Christmas pudding and it does have that Shiraz boldness of deep dark fruits with a side of peppery notes.. With time, it will be an exceptional wine with greater depth and complexity! This would be lovely with that Christmas cake or baked pastry with sultanas or rum or cognac soaked raisins! Whereas the P.S. Marion Tawny is specially dedicated for the Paddle Steamer Marion & to honor the great Barossa tradition of Tawny making! This truly reflects greatly of its Tawny tradition with a very dark yet slight amber color on the glass and in aroma wise it was bursting with warm sensation with wood fire burning on the background alongside eat a rum and raisin dessert! It was really a warm hugging drink that has a sweet and sticky mouthfeel but was complemented with dark raisins, dried dark fruits like plums and figs! #tradition #afoodiesaffair #sommelier #burpple #winetradition #wineaustralia #barossawine #tawnywine #rockfordwines #winetwofive #winetasting

A bottle of sparkling Black Shiraz is in order to usher in the month of February and also itâs a Friday! Itâs actually a first for me to encounter and taste a sparkling Shiraz! Yes itâs made with 100% Shiraz grape and it do undergo the similar process of a Traditional method just like the champagne with 1st fermentation in the oak barrel then it proceed off with the blending of the Shiraz parcels and finally it undergoes the 2nd fermentation to create that sparkling effect! This sparkling Shiraz is quite unique as the fermentation has not lose the bold and black fruit character from Shiraz yet it helps to create a velvety texture of its tannin, the fine small bubbles that shows the quality and effort put in from the fermentation process and it do brought out the sweet notes alongside liquorice, juicy plums and prunes with a luscious acidity!
This is a great drink to have it as a dessert wine or you can be adventurous to try the combination of charcuterie platter or cheeses just like how Lambrusco is #winetwofive #afoodiesaffair #winetasting #winefridays #sommelier #education #burpple #barossawine
In the Sri Hartamas housing compound lies a row of shoplots that are food centric which encompasses a selection of Japanese, Chinese & western cuisine! In this row of shops, there was a place called Butaya Izakaya which on the outside looks really small & simple with wooden roofs and walls covered with written planks that are dishes offered.. it was really the most authentic place that you can find in KL area which also not to forget that their menu is really affordable and authentic! So the one dish that attracts us is the Natto (RM9) which was an affordable risk to try out such a famous yet unique fermented delicacy.. Well it doesnât take long to find out what it taste like as it arrived immediately to our table! And the first bite of this fermented delicacy was a surprising one as it wasnât that overpowering like most people describe it to be as it was really mild for us alongside with an incredible balance of umami, creamy and sticky texture! It goes amazingly well on its own or together with the raw lady fingers or even better is to have it with Gohan ( rice)!
Would you believe in the concept of having a dewy complexion with just a good healthy dose of dark bitter chocolate dessert? Well I do wish this is a proven theory! As I love anything that is made with dark bitter chocolate! Recently, we stumbled across the latest venture by Jaslyn from Jaslyn Cakes that is located next to the yummy Jaslyn Cakes called as Dew! This dessert cafe at the moment doesnât have any signage at the moment so it is easily to be missed out as the outside of this shop is a florist.. once you walked passed the florist, you are welcomed with a very calm and minimalist atmosphere cafe that has an endless of white marble table.. The cafe is greeted warmly by the display cabinet which is posses the hardest challenge to decide in terms of ordering.. There is a pre-made and freshly made desserts which in this case we decided to go for Valrhona Chocolate Souffle (RM16).. Bare in mind that you have to be patient in waiting for this Valrhona beauty be ready in 20-25 minutes.. Itâs was really a worthy wait as the soufflĂ© has a crispy exterior and a soft yet fluffy center that explodes with the intense, warm and nutty chocolate taste!
The latest cafe or restaurant joint to open itself to the Malaysian ever hungry community is the Japanese Hoshino Coffee in midvalley which is located in the previously operated Tim Ho Wan Dim Sum.. This place is really popular amongst the younger generations and also office goers as you can spot the never ending lines of people which eager to try out or even soak up the Japanese atmosphere and their aromatic hand drip coffee! Their menu is simple yet straightforward with a touch of Japanese flair into it! We tried their special dessert which is the Strawberry French toast (RM19.90) and you could add on toppings of additional ice cream, whipped butter or even cream.. We paired this Strawberry French toast with their homemade whipped butter which is a combination of whipped cream and butter that made it creamy, salty and buttery! The Strawberry French toast is a petite portion and you can share it with your loved ones as the toast are beautifully cut up for you with a generous dollop of whipped cream and heaps of cut strawberries.. The toast is beautifully made with a touch of buttery, cinnamon like notes on the palate! The service here is quite reasonable as the place is constantly full but the food came out relatively fast than you can finish them all..
