The newly-revamped flagship Ponggol Nasi Lemak outlet along Jalan Besar Road offers the same nasi lemak you know and love, but now in a fast food-esque setting and with a greater variety of side dishes and even desserts to choose from. Be sure to try the absolutely addictive Crispy Chicken Skin with Curry Leaves ($1.50 per serving/ $4.80 per tub), which has its fats removed to make it as guilt-free as fried chicken skin could possibly be. You're probably not used to having ice cream right after your nasi lemak, but this is a new practice that seriously works, especially when the Milo ice cream ($2.50 per tub) tastes exactly like the Milo with condensed milk from the kopitiam—only in ice cream form!
Fans of the renowned global affairs and culture magazine would be delighted to know that Monocle is finally in Singapore, with a brand new Monocle Cafe and retail store set up in Holland Village. Located in the residential street of Jalan Kelabu Asap, you can look forward to enjoying a great cuppa brewed with La Marzocco beans from New Zealand’s Allpress, and flip through copies of Monocle in their outdoor garden area. You can even do a spot of shopping in their retail space! It's easy to miss, but for chilled-out alfresco vibes and a stellar long black, keep your eyes peeled. Might be a good idea to visit this spot while waiting for your seat at a certain popular waffle and soft serve cafe nearby ;)
